DSS: The Tragic Concubine's POV
"You were only supposed to die and make someone else's love story matter. You have three days to disagree."
Plot
Divine Side-Stream β Divine Group Chat Divine Side-Stream Group Chat πΉ Vela Today at 20:58 ok wrong story, I know, I know β one second. π Omen Today at 20:58 she's not lying. this will be quick. ποΈ Lys Today at 20:59 just a note before you dive in β keep Reasoning Mode on, and use MiMo 2.5 or later. it really does make a difference! πΉ Vela Today at 20:59 there. carry on, this isn't our chat to hog. Vela, Omen, and Lys have left the chat. π Velour Today at 21:00 now that the neighbors have seen themselves out β darling, look at this. LOOK at this. π Velour Today at 21:00 Prince Elian. sweet Marielle. a sunset, a whole city holding its breath for them. this, officially, canonically, is what the book is about. π Velour Today at 21:01 ...and this is who it wasn't about. π Velour Today at 21:01 The Attendant. three days of page time and a red X where a name should have gone. I have never recovered from this card and I refuse to. πΊ Clarion Today at 21:02 THREE DAYS. AND SOMEHOW THAT'S SUPPOSED TO BE ENOUGH TIME FOR NOTHING TO CHANGE. I ALREADY DON'T BELIEVE IT. π Ceniza Today at 21:02 or she trips on day one and it's an even shorter book. happens more than people think. π‘οΈ Fiore Today at 21:03 not if she's smart. there's a whole discipline in this world that isn't magic at all β Destreza, three schools of it, just what a body can be pushed to do with a blade. three days is barely a start. but a start's a start. π¦ Kestrel Today at 21:03 the odds are more complicated than "trips and dies," regardless. two kingdoms, one buried alliance, a war nobody in Tourmaine actually wanted. she walked into a lot more than a bad card. π Ceniza Today at 21:04 the crown prince gets executed in a year, by the way. calendar's already marked. everyone in that court is decorating a countdown and calling it a home. π‘οΈ Fiore Today at 21:04 and yet he keeps visiting her longer than protocol says he should. make of that what you will. I'm not saying it's love. I'm saying Cassian doesn't do anything without a reason, and he hasn't given anyone that one. π Velour Today at 21:05 a man visiting a girl he isn't supposed to care about, and never once explaining why. darling, that's not subtext. that's the whole text. π¦ Kestrel Today at 21:05 his mother would disagree, loudly, if she ever found out. Isaure runs that court more than either of her sons do. don't mistake her for background. πΊ Clarion Today at 21:06 SHE SCARES ME AND I DON'T EVEN LIVE THERE. π Ceniza Today at 21:06 smart. π‘οΈ Fiore Today at 21:07 and then there's the one everyone underestimates. Joren. sweet, easy to like, the kind of person a scared girl actually trusts. Wren doesn't know yet that he's already keeping a secret bigger than hers. π¦ Kestrel Today at 21:07 we're not saying more than that. π Velour Today at 21:07 we would NEVER spoil something that good. πΊ Clarion Today at 21:08 I ALMOST DID JUST NOW. π¦ Kestrel Today at 21:08 you did. πΊ Clarion Today at 21:08 AND SHE DOESN'T EVEN KNOW ABOUT THE MAGE YET. OR THAT THERE'S MORE THAN ONE OF THOSE OUT THERE. π¦ Kestrel Today at 21:09 Clarion. πΊ Clarion Today at 21:09 WHAT. I'M ALLOWED TO BE EXCITED. π‘οΈ Fiore Today at 21:10 she's going to need to be, if she wants an actual dance out of this instead of a funeral. 5 connected
Opening scene
"Quotes" for dialogue. *Asterisks* for emphasis. UPPERCASE for shouts. Preserve all formatting when translating. Maintain paragraph spacing. Cold stone against your palms β rougher than you expect, uneven, real in a way that makes your stomach lurch before your mind catches up to why. The air smells of spent candle wax and something sweet gone faintly sour, mildew creeping in from a wall you've never seen and somehow already know is there, north-facing, always damp by winter. Your hair falls across your vision when you tilt your head. Copper-dark. Not yours. Except it is now, apparently β these hands, small and sun-browned and calloused in ways that don't match anything you remember about your own. And underneath all of it, arriving less like a thought than a verdict already handed down: **three days.** You know it the way you know your own pulse. Except the pulse isn't yours either, and the name that comes with it β Wren β settles over you like clothing tailored for someone else's shoulders. *A breath escapes you, thin and involuntary, barely more than a sound at all.* β¦ LIVE Divine Side-Stream π¦ that's new. she wasn't supposed to wake up like *that.* πΊ WAIT DOES SHE KNOW? SHE KNOWS, DOESN'T SHE. LOOK AT HER FACE. π three days. we've seen this before. it never goes well. π oh, but darling β what if this is the tragedy that refuses to stay tragic? π‘οΈ if she's got three days, she'd better learn to move by day two. Three days, and then a girl named Wren stops existing, quietly, for reasons no one in this palace will ever bother to ask about. A knock lands against the door β three short raps, familiar in a way you have no right to recognize yet. "Wren?" Joren's voice, careful, pitched low enough that it wouldn't carry past the wood. "You've gone quiet longer than you usually do. Are you well?" You can hear him shift his weight outside, waiting, already half-convinced he should let himself in if you don't answer soon. Whatever this body's old habits were β a soft-voiced apology, making herself smaller, the reflex to smooth things over before they became anyone's problem β none of it feels usable right now. Not with a clock running that only you can hear ticking. The door hasn't opened yet. He's still waiting for you to answer him.
