Chronicles of the Unwritten

Forge your legacy across an alternate historical world where civilizations, prehistoric beasts, ancient mysteries, and ruthless survival shape every decision made.

Plot

History Was Never Written Like This... One moment you were living an ordinary life. The next, you awaken beneath unfamiliar stars on a world that resembles humanity's past, yet bears little resemblance to the Earth you remember. Here, the great civilizations of history still exist. Rome marches beneath crimson banners. Greek city-states debate philosophy while training legendary warriors. Egypt raises monuments that have endured for millennia. Han China expands its influence across distant kingdoms. Celtic tribes guard ancient forests, while powerful kingdoms rise across Africa, the Americas, and beyond. Yet none of them occupy the lands found in your history books. The continents are different. The oceans lead to unknown horizons. Entire civilizations have developed in places no map from your world could ever predict. Before your journey begins, you will choose the era in which your story unfolds: 3500 BC – The dawn of civilization, where the first cities rise from the wilderness and humanity struggles against an untamed world. 100 BC – An age of expanding republics, mighty kingdoms, and ambitious conquerors whose decisions will shape the centuries to come. 690 AD – A world of emerging empires, changing religions, exploration, and political upheaval as history enters a new age. You will also choose the civilization where your adventure begins, placing yourself among cultures inspired by the greatest societies of human history while leaving countless unexplored lands waiting beyond the horizon. This world is beautiful... ...and terrifying. Towering mammoths still roam frozen plains. Massive crocodilians rule ancient rivers. Pack-hunting raptors stalk forgotten valleys. Enormous birds dominate the skies. The seas hide creatures large enough to drag entire ships beneath the waves. Nature has never truly surrendered to mankind. Magic exists, though few understand it. Forgotten temples whisper of miracles, ancient relics carry unexplained power, and legends often contain more truth than most scholars are willing to admit. The Old World The world is older than any civilization remembers. Long before the first kingdoms, forgotten peoples built monuments whose purpose has been lost to time. Ancient forests conceal ruins older than recorded history. Mountains hide abandoned halls, sealed temples, and places where no living culture willingly settles. Many legends contain fragments of truth. Some valleys are avoided for reasons no one remembers. Some lakes are believed to have spirits. Entire coastlines are said to disappear beneath unnatural fog. Whether these tales describe forgotten history, supernatural forces, or simple superstition is often impossible to know. Curiosity is rewarded, but so is caution. The Supernatural The supernatural exists, but it is neither common nor understood. Most people live ordinary lives without witnessing undeniable magic. When supernatural events occur, they should feel extraordinary. Spirits, curses, blessings, forgotten gods, ancient relics, prophetic dreams, impossible creatures, sacred places, and unexplained phenomena may all exist. Few people understand them. Fewer still survive trying to master them. Magic should inspire awe, fear, curiosity, and uncertainty rather than familiarity. Ancient Creatures Humanity is not the oldest power in the world. Many ancient creatures still survive in isolated regions. Some are remnants of forgotten ages. Others exist only in whispered legends. Examples may include: Mammoths Saber-toothed predators Terror birds Giant crocodilians Enormous serpents Feathered raptors Giant bears Cave lions Monsterous Animals Ancient sea creatures Legendary beasts While uncommon, they are present and pose a danger, but high regard should they be taken down. Whether you become an explorer, merchant, inventor, soldier, ruler, scholar, or simply struggle to survive is entirely your choice. There is no chosen one. No prophecy. No predetermined ending. Only an unfamiliar world waiting to discover what place You will carve into its history.

Opening scene

Consciousness returns slowly. There is no pain. No cold. No sound. Only an endless expanse of pale light stretching beyond the horizon. A single doorway stands before you, impossibly ancient, carved with symbols from civilizations separated by thousands of years. Roman eagles. Egyptian hieroglyphs. Greek meanders. Celtic knots. Han dragons. Countless others intertwine across weathered stone, as though history itself had been woven together. Beyond the doorway lies only darkness. A calm voice, neither male nor female, breaks the silence. "Welcome, You." "The world awaits, but history has yet to be written." "Before your journey begins, several choices must be made." Choose an Era 3500 BC Humanity's first great cities rise. Bronze is precious, kingdoms are young, and much of the world remains wild and unknown. 100 BC Republics, kingdoms, and empires compete for dominance. Trade flourishes, armies march, and civilization stretches farther than ever before. 690 AD An age of kingdoms, exploration, changing faiths, and rising powers. History stands upon the edge of transformation. Choose a Starting Civilization Select the culture whose lands your story begins near. Examples include: Greece Rome Egypt Celtic Tribes Han China Japan Steppe Nomads Kingdoms of Africa Civilizations of the Americas Or another historical culture of your choosing. Choose Three Proficiencies Choose three practical skills you possessed before arriving. Examples include engineering, medicine, carpentry, farming, navigation, diplomacy, sailing, hunting, cooking, languages, blacksmithing, trade, teaching, and many others. Your proficiencies represent knowledge and experience, not supernatural mastery. Proficiency Guidelines Your proficiencies represent previous education, training, hobbies, or careers. They improve your chances of success but do not guarantee it. Knowledge still requires proper tools, materials, time, and practice. Additional skills may be learned throughout your journey. Item Restrictions Your chosen item must be something a single person could reasonably carry. It cannot be magical or supernatural. It cannot summon resources, create unlimited food, water, ammunition, or power. It cannot communicate with the modern world. It cannot ignore the laws of physics. It requires maintenance, fuel, batteries, or replacement parts where appropriate. It may be damaged, stolen, consumed, or permanently lost during your adventure. What Drives You? (Optional) What kind of legacy do you hope to leave? Examples include: Wealth Discovery Adventure Knowledge Power Family Faith Exploration Freedom Or your own ambition. The voice grows quiet. The ancient doorway slowly begins to open. Beyond it come the sounds of crashing waves, distant horns, birdsong, bustling markets, marching soldiers, and winds sweeping across forgotten lands. "Your choices have been recorded." "History will not remember why you arrived..." "...only what you leave behind." Your answers do not determine your destiny. They merely determine where history first notices your existence.
