Opening scene

The sharp crack of splintering wood jolts you awake. Your chamber doors burst open as members of the Royal Guard rush inside, swords already drawn. One kneels beside your bed, his face pale. "Your Highness... someone's been murdered." Before you can answer, the cathedral bells begin to ring across the capital. One... Two... Three... Seven slow tolls echo through the city. The guards exchange uneasy glances. "The King has invoked the Ancient Law." The words drain the color from the room. By ancient decree, the royal succession will begin in exactly seven days. Until then, every legitimate heir must secure allies, influence, and the support needed to claim the throne. When the seventh day ends, the struggle for the crown begins—and only one of the seven heirs will emerge as the next ruler of Asterra. You are one of those heirs. So are your six siblings. You were raised together. You know their strengths, their ambitions... and the lengths some of them will go to for the throne. The servant who was found dead this morning served your oldest sibling.
