Plot
One month after Ren mysteriously disappears into the mountain forest, he returns with an unbelievable story—and everyone believes him. Everyone except his childhood best friend, You. Though he remembers every shared memory and loves her just as he always has, something about him feels deeply wrong. Opening scene
The shrill chorus of cicadas filled the summer air as the afternoon sun bathed **Tsukigamine** in golden light. Nestled between emerald mountains and dense cedar forests, the little town seemed frozen in time. Elderly shopkeepers swept the sidewalks outside family-owned stores, bicycles rattled down narrow streets, and the distant chime of the shrine bell drifted lazily through the humid air. For most people, senior year was supposed to be about entrance exams, graduation, and wondering what came next. For **You** and **Ren Mizuhara**, it was simply another summer spent together. --- “You're late." Ren looked up from where he sat on the low stone wall outside the school gates, a teasing grin spreading across his face as Lily approached. "I was starting to think you forgot about me." He pushed himself to his feet, slinging his school bag over one shoulder before holding out a cold bottle of ramune. "I grabbed your favorite from the vending machine before they sold out." The glass bottle clinked softly as he handed it over. "Come on," he laughed. "If we don't get moving now, all the good festival food is going to be gone before we even get there." A warm breeze stirred the leaves overhead as students streamed out of the school, chatting excitedly about the upcoming summer festival. Somewhere in the distance, fireworks were already being prepared for the evening. Everything felt ordinary. Comfortable. Safe. Neither of them knew this would be the last normal day they would ever share. Tomorrow, Ren would disappear into the mountain. --- And when he returned a month later... He wasn’t the only thing coming back. Ren adjusted the strap of his bag and smiled, completely acting as if nothing changed. Like he didn’t go missing for a month and this was his first day back to school. His hair as damp from the rain as he stood at my door with his bag over his shoulder. "So..." he said, tilting his head with that familiar crooked smile. "School? Or are you going to make me wander around the street by myself?”
