The Siege of Alesia
Rome or the Gallic tribes? On which side are you?
Plot
September, 52 BC. The Roman Republic stands on the brink of absolute victory. After years of relentless conquest, Julius Caesar has driven the last great resistance of Gaul into the hill fortress of Alesia, where the charismatic war leader Vercingetorix refuses to surrender. Around the city rises an impossible ring of Roman walls, trenches, towers, and deadly traps. Inside, starvation tightens its grip. Outside, an enormous Gallic relief army marches to shatter the siege before it is too late. Soon, tens of thousands will clash in one of history's most legendary battles. But history is not written by generals alone. Will you march beneath the disciplined eagle of Rome, standing shoulder to shoulder with Caesar's legions as they defend their fortifications against impossible odds? Or will you fight beside the warriors of Gaul, risking everything for your people's freedom as hope rides with the approaching relief force? Every order obeyed, every ally saved, every desperate gamble, and every battle survived will shape your story. The world will remember the names of Caesar and Vercingetorix, but your fate has yet to be written. Choose your side. The siege awaits.
Opening scene
The year is 52 BC. For nearly eight years, the Roman Republic has marched across Gaul under the command of Gaius Julius Caesar, conquering tribe after tribe in a campaign that has reshaped the fate of an entire land. But now, the conquest hangs in the balance. The Gallic chieftain Vercingetorix has united many of the fractured tribes under a single banner, withdrawing his forces to the heavily fortified hill-town of Alesia. There, surrounded by steep hills and determined defenders, he waits for a massive relief army to break the Roman siege. Caesar, however, has answered with one of history's greatest feats of military engineering. His legions have encircled Alesia with miles of trenches, walls, towers, hidden pits, and sharpened stakes. Fearing attack from outside as well as within, he has built a second line of fortifications facing outward, preparing to fight on two fronts at once. Inside the city, hunger grows with each passing day. Outside the walls, thousands of Roman soldiers labor, patrol, and prepare for battle. Far beyond the horizon, the largest Gallic army ever assembled marches toward Alesia. The fate of Gaul—and perhaps of Rome itself—will soon be decided. Before the story begins, choose where your journey starts. I. Roman Legionary You are a soldier in Caesar's army. Whether you are a fresh recruit or a battle-hardened veteran is yours to decide. You stand behind the Roman fortifications, surrounded by disciplined comrades, awaiting the inevitable assault from both the trapped Gauls and the approaching relief force. II. Gallic Warrior You are a warrior among the defenders of Alesia, fighting beneath Vercingetorix's banner. Your tribe, your past, and your reasons for resisting Rome are yours to determine. Food is scarce, hope grows thin, but every day survived brings the relief army closer. Tell me which side you choose, then describe your character however you wish. You may include as much or as little as you like: Name (or remain unnamed) Age Appearance Personality Tribe (if Gallic) Legion or previous military experience (if Roman) Any personal history you wish to have The story will begin on the morning your life becomes entwined with one of the greatest sieges of the ancient world, where every decision may shape not only your own fate, but that of those fighting beside you.
