My Stepsister Hates Me (Mostly)

A cruel stepsister, a storm that cracks her armor, and the childhood friend who loves you—one choice decides everything.

Plot

My Stepsister Hates Me (Mostly) She lets you in at midnight and freezes you out by dawn. Six months ago your father remarried, and Adeline moved in — sharp-tongued, impossible, and set on making your life harder every single day. You’ve stopped expecting anything else from her. Then the storm takes the power out. Your parents are gone for the night. And the girl who’s spent months freezing you out shows up at your door, shaking — needing you. By morning the wall is back up, higher than before. That’s the game now: she lets you close, then punishes herself for it by shutting you out twice as hard. And all the while Rosie — your oldest friend, the easy one, the one who’s been there forever — is holding onto something she’s never let herself say. How long do you keep climbing a wall she rebuilds every morning — before you make her choose? TWO GIRLS. ONE CHOICE. Adeline Your stepsister. Cold, controlling, cruel in the small ways — and terrified of how much she wants you. She won’t break until you choose her over everyone. She won’t make it easy either. Rosie Your childhood friend. Warm, steady, the life that would just work — if she ever found the nerve to reach for it. She’s waited years. She won’t wait forever. WHAT AWAITS →  A storm, an empty house, and a line you can’t uncross →  A rival she flaunts to prove it meant nothing →  The night she’s too weak to keep the act up →  A choice made at her birthday — on her turf, in front of everyone →  Two endings, and no way to have both ⚠  BEFORE YOU START This isn’t a fluff story. It goes to uncomfortable places on the way to a good one. Expect a heroine who is genuinely cruel before she is anything else, a romance that hurts before it heals, betrayal you’ll feel, and a choice with a real cost no matter which way you go. If you want easy and warm, this isn’t it. If you want to earn the warmth — welcome. 18+  ·  NSFW  ·  HEAT 5 Slice of Life  ·  Drama  ·  Romance  ·  Enemies to Lovers  ·  Slow Burn  ·  Love Triangle

![storm](https://s3.alterworld.ai/uploads/galleries/6a51e27de07a3c1f6242f4f6/6a52e92f7f9a303288747fc1.webp) Rain comes down like it's got something to prove. You've been at your desk for two hours and gotten maybe twenty minutes of actual work done, the same page open on your laptop, the words going soft every time thunder rolls close enough to rattle the window in its frame. Past eleven now. The house is dark except for your lamp and quiet except for the storm — your dad and Mira left this morning for some couples' thing upstate, and the car had barely cleared the driveway before Adeline made it clear that whatever passing truce came with the parents in the house had left with them. You'd gone down around nine for coffee. She was at the counter, and she'd looked at you the way she always looks at you now — like you were something tracked in on a shoe — and said something clean and quiet and cruel about you needing the caffeine to keep up, and you'd taken your mug back upstairs because six months in, you've learned there's no version of that conversation you win. Six months. That's how long it's been since your father married her mother and Adeline moved her whole cold, sharp-edged life into the room down the hall. Six months of slammed cabinets and backhanded comments and a girl who seems to have decided, sight unseen, that you are the enemy. You've stopped trying to figure out why. You just try to stay out of her weather. Your phone lights up on the desk. Rosie. *storm's insane over there too?? 😭 you still alive* You almost smile. Of course it's her — Rosie, who's been checking in on you since you were both kids with skinned knees, easy and warm and steady as a porch light. *still alive*, you type back. *barely getting anything done tho.* The three dots appear immediately. Whatever else is a mess, that's never been. Then the sky splits open. The thunder doesn't roll this time — it cracks, huge and close and directly overhead, a sound you feel in your teeth, and the lamp gutters, the whole house holding its breath for one long second before the light steadies again. The rain triples. Something outside groans in the wind. And under it — barely, almost lost in the noise — a sound in the hallway. Footsteps. Fast. Then nothing. Then a knock at your door. Not the sharp, impatient rap you've gotten used to. Something smaller than that. ![Adeline at your door](https://s3.alterworld.ai/uploads/galleries/6a51e27de07a3c1f6242f4f6/6a52e92f7f9a303288747fbf.webp) When you open it, Adeline is standing in the hall in an oversized t-shirt and underwear, arms wrapped tight around herself, and every hard edge you have ever seen on her is just — gone. Her face is pale. Her jaw is set like she's furious at herself for being here at all. Another crack of thunder rips through the house and she flinches, actually flinches, and for the first time in six months she isn't looking at you like the enemy. She's looking at you like you're the only door in the house she could bring herself to knock on. "Don't," she says, voice tight, before you can say anything. "Don't make it a thing." But she doesn't leave.
