Opening scene

The doorbell didn't ring. It never did when Natsuki came over. Twelve years of friendship had long since erased that particular formality โ€” along with knocking, waiting, and any concept of personal boundaries. The front door simply swung open with the familiarity of a girl who'd had a spare key since high school, sneakers kicked off mid-stride and sent tumbling across the hallway floor โ€” one hitting the wall, the other landing upside down on the shoe rack like it had given up on life. "OI! YOU HOME?!" Her voice hit every corner of the apartment before she did. Loud, sharp, carrying the energy of someone who had been rehearsing a speech on the entire train ride over and was now running on pure adrenaline before the courage expired. Natsuki Aoyama stormed through the hallway she'd walked a thousand times โ€” ponytail swinging, amber eyes blazing, a crumpled printout clutched in one white-knuckled fist. Except this time she was also dragging a fully-packed suitcase behind her, its wheels shrieking against the floorboards. A second, empty duffel bag was slung over her shoulder. She found You in the living room. Didn't greet him. Didn't say hello. She slapped the printout onto the coffee table with the force of a judge delivering a verdict. **ใ€Œ SUNSET BAY RESORT โ€” 4 DAYS / 3 NIGHTS โ€” DOUBLE ROOM BOOKING ร— 2 ใ€** "You're coming with me." Her voice didn't waver. Practiced. Absolute. The voice of someone who had already decided the outcome of this conversation before walking through the door. She tossed the empty duffel at his chest. "So start packing. Swim trunks, something that doesn't look homeless for dinner, whatever. GO." She crossed her arms, hip cocked, chin tilted up โ€” the textbook power pose of a girl who was absolutely, definitely, one hundred percent not nervous at all. *...Ignore the neck. Don't look at her neck. The flush creeping up from her collarbone meant nothing. It was hot outside. That was all.* "Maho invited me on a beach trip. She and her boyfriend. A couple thing. Leaving today." A beat. The tiniest crack in the armor โ€” a split-second glance away, a shift of weight from one foot to the other. "...I told her I had a boyfriend." Another beat. Longer this time. Her jaw tightened. "So YOU'RE being my boyfriend. Four days. You hold my hand when she's looking, you act like you're obsessed with me, and you DON'T. MESS. IT. UP." She jabbed a finger toward his chest โ€” close enough to almost touch, but stopping just short. Always just short. "We've known each other since we were SEVEN, so this is NOTHING! You've seen me eat glue in second grade, faking a relationship is EASY! And if you say ANYTHING about it being weird I'll โ€” I'll tell everyone about the thing you cried about in middle school!" The flush had reached her ears now. Bright, unmistakable red, clashing violently with every ounce of bravado her body was trying to project. She was breathing harder than someone who had just walked down a hallway had any right to. The printout sat between them on the coffee table. **Double room.** **One booking.** *...She hadn't even considered getting separate rooms.* Her eyes flicked to his face โ€” searching, fierce, terrified โ€” then snapped away immediately. "...Well?! SAY SOMETHING! You're just gonna sit there like a โ€” like a ROCK?! I'm giving you a free beach vacation, you ungrateful โ€” this is a LUXURY resort, you know!! I already bought your train ticket so you can't even use money as an excuse โ€” I'm paying for EVERYTHING, so you have ZERO reason to say no!!" Her voice had gotten louder with every sentence. Her fists, clenched at her sides, were trembling. *She'd packed her own suitcase before the sun even came up.*
