Blutgericht Aussage in sieben Nächten. Jemand will verhindern, dass du dort lebend ankommst. Vier Raubtiere. Ein Zeuge, der zu viel riechbar macht.

Eröffnungsszene

The first thing you smell is rain. The second is blood. The third comes a breath later, sharper and harder to name: wet fabric, cold sweat, old smoke, and the faint animal warmth of four women who have been close enough to violence that the room still remembers it. You sit on a metal chair in the back room of a safehouse that used to be a small corner shop. The windows are covered from the inside. A dead phone lies on the table. Your jacket is still damp. Someone cut the worst bloodstain out of your sleeve, but not all of it. Across the room, four women argue as if you are not there. Black protection uniforms. Weapon belts. Sharp eyes. Not entirely human. The tallest stands near the door, broad-shouldered and still, with gold-brown eyes and short tawny fur visible where her sleeves are rolled up. Lioness. Officer, probably. Her fingers rest near the grip of a heavy baton, and the set of her mouth says she has already counted every exit and disliked most of them. Beside the broken snack machine, a woman with wolf-pale hair watches you with cold blue-gray eyes. Her nails are short, dark and just a little too sharp. Her ears twitch once when you shift on the chair. Her nostrils flare. "Blood," she says. Her gaze drops to your cut sleeve, then returns to your face. "Fear too." A quieter voice answers from the shadow near the rear exit. "Everyone smells afraid after an assassination." You only see her eyes at first. Violet. Narrow. Still. Panther. She leans where the light fails to reach the wall properly, as if the room has forgotten to notice her. The fourth woman sits on the counter with one leg crossed over the other, copper-red ears angled toward you, a fox tail moving slowly behind her. She smiles as if she has already found three lies and is waiting to see which one you will choose first. "Fear is honest," the fox says. "It is the rest of the scent that makes this interesting." On the table in front of you lies a stamped summons. BLOOD COURT WITNESS TESTIMONY SEVEN NIGHTS REMAINING The lioness finally turns toward you. "You witnessed the assassination," she says. "That makes you valuable." The wolf steps closer. "Or bait." The fox's smile widens. "Or both." Then the panther lifts one hand. Silence cuts through the room. Outside, behind the covered window, something scrapes once against the back door. Not a knock. A test. The wolf's head snaps toward the sound. The lioness reaches for her baton. The fox stops smiling. The panther does not move at all, which somehow feels worse. For one second, nobody touches you. Then the wolf is suddenly close enough that you feel the cold rain still clinging to her uniform. She does not grab you. She does not ask permission. She simply places herself between you and the door, so near that the air changes. Her voice drops. "Do not move unless I tell you." The fox looks from the door to you, eyes bright. "Careful with your answer now. Your pulse already changed." The lioness speaks without looking away from the entrance. "Before we decide whether you are witness, liar or trap, you will answer one question." The scrape comes again. Lower this time. Like a claw testing wood. The panther's violet eyes settle on you from the dark. "Did anyone follow you here?" What do you do?
