Rifts of Humanity

Earth's rifts reveal a magical frontier where humanity awakens classes, skills, and mysteries beyond imagination.

Plot

Earth changed forever when massive rifts appeared across every continent, connecting humanity to an unknown world. Nations around the globe sent exploration teams into these rifts, only to discover that every portal led to the same location: a massive abandoned city resembling an MMO community hub. The strange settlement contained guild halls, markets, inns, storage facilities, training areas, and mysterious systems that appeared designed for adventurers, yet no inhabitants or creators could be found. As humanity explored the Hub, they discovered an ancient Scrying Crystal capable of evaluating individuals by analyzing their body, mind, and soul. Those who undergo the Class Assessment awaken supernatural abilities, gaining a class, skills, attributes, and a Unique Skill personally connected to their identity. Unique Skills are rare soul-bound abilities that reflect a person's experiences, personality, talents, and potential. Some individuals may even possess extremely rare circumstances such as multiple Unique Skills, but these cases are almost unheard of. The Hub became humanity's gateway into a dangerous new frontier filled with monsters, dungeons, unexplored lands, rare resources, and hidden civilizations. Within the Hub and the world beyond the rifts, classes, skills, magic, attributes, and enchanted equipment function normally. However, Earth remains unaffected by the supernatural system. Outside the Hub, abilities become dormant, preventing explorers from becoming unstoppable forces in the normal world while making the new frontier the place where humanity can grow. Adventurers must build their strength through exploration, quests, training, crafting, teamwork, and discovery. The Guild system allows explorers to accept missions, earn rewards, gain reputation, and increase their rank. Daily quests provide opportunities for personal growth without punishment for failure, while official quests carry consequences such as lost payment, reputation loss, rank reduction, or in extreme cases permanent exile from the Hub. The Hub has its own economy connected to Earth, allowing explorers to exchange monster materials, rare resources, and quest rewards for their country's currency. The value of materials depends on rarity, quality, usefulness, and demand. Governments, guilds, corporations, and individuals all compete and cooperate as humanity begins building a new civilization between two worlds. Every person entering the Hub has their own potential and story. NPCs are living individuals with their own classes, Unique Skills, goals, relationships, and ambitions. Some may become allies, rivals, mentors, explorers, leaders, or legends. The world does not revolve around one chosen hero; everyone has the opportunity to create their own legacy. You are one of humanity's first explorers stepping into this unknown frontier. Discover your class, awaken your Unique Skill, survive dangerous encounters, form connections, uncover the secrets behind the rifts, and decide what role you will play in humanity's greatest adventure. Additional World Information The world changed the day enormous dimensional rifts simultaneously appeared across every continent on Earth. Governments, militaries, scientists, and civilians rushed to investigate. The first exploration teams entering the rifts from every nation found themselves transported to the same enormous extradimensional city known simply as The Hub, a neutral sanctuary existing outside normal space and time. Regardless of which country's rift was entered, every explorer arrived in the same location. The Hub serves as humanity's only permanent settlement within the Rift World. Here explorers from every nation live, trade, train, and cooperate despite political differences back on Earth. Violence within the Hub is strictly regulated by the governing council and the Adventurer Guilds. Outside its walls stretches an enormous unexplored world filled with monsters, resources, ruins, ancient civilizations, dangerous environments, and endless opportunities for discovery. Although time flows normally between Earth and the Hub, supernatural abilities only function inside the Rift World. Upon returning to Earth, all classes, attributes, mana, skills, equipment effects, summons, and magical abilities become completely dormant. Earth remains a technologically modern world while the Rift World follows its own system-based laws. The four founding guilds were established shortly after the discovery of the Scrying Crystal, representing cooperation between the major regions of Earth while remaining politically neutral inside the Hub. Numerous independent guilds and organizations have since formed, but all explorers ultimately answer to the Hub's governing council regarding emergencies, criminal activity, and public safety. At the center of the Hub rests the Scrying Crystal, an ancient artifact capable of evaluating every individual once during their lifetime. The crystal scans the body, mind, soul, personality, memories, ambitions, talents, and potential before permanently granting both a Class and a Unique Skill. These awakenings cannot normally be repeated or changed. Every awakened Unique Skill becomes public knowledge through the Hub Registry, displaying its name and general function while concealing deeper mechanics. Classes are generated from an individual's overall potential rather than predetermined templates. Combat, Magic, Support, Summoning, Crafting, Production, Gathering, Leadership, Utility, and Hybrid classes are all possible alongside countless specialized paths. No two individuals are guaranteed to receive identical Classes or Unique Skills, allowing nearly limitless combinations while remaining balanced by the System. Levels are earned through combat, exploration, crafting, gathering, research, quest completion, monster hunting, and meaningful accomplishments related to an individual's Class. Every person follows the same progression system regardless of nationality, wealth, or social status. Powerful Classes alone do not guarantee success, as teamwork, preparation, creativity, and experience often determine survival more than raw statistics. Every awakened individual receives one Unique Skill. These abilities represent manifestations of the user's soul rather than learned techniques. Unique Skills range from simple utility abilities to legendary combat powers. Most cannot be learned, copied, or stolen through ordinary means. Rare abilities capable of copying or stealing skills exist but are heavily restricted by the System to prevent abuse and maintain long-term balance. The Rift World contains countless monsters, natural resources, hidden ruins, ancient civilizations, unexplored regions, and dangerous ecosystems. Defeated monsters leave behind materials used by blacksmiths, craftsmen, alchemists, researchers, and merchants to create stronger equipment, consumables, and magical items. Certain monsters also possess elemental affinities, monster cores, or exceptionally valuable biological materials. Rift Phenomenon Every active Rift remains connected to a single location within the Rift World for exactly twenty-four hours. At midnight Hub Standard Time, every Rift simultaneously emits a brief flash of light lasting approximately one second before reconnecting to an entirely new random destination. No known pattern governs these changes, and even the Scrying Crystal cannot predict future Rift locations. If explorers remain inside a Rift when the daily shift occurs, they are not harmed. Instead, the System safely transports every living individual to the entrance of the newly connected location. This prevents explorers from becoming permanently stranded while ensuring no expedition can monopolize a valuable area indefinitely. Because every reset connects to a completely different region, each day becomes a race against time. Exploration teams must decide whether to focus on gathering resources, defeating powerful monsters, completing objectives, or searching for hidden treasures before the next shift occurs. Unexplored locations are not lost forever. Since Rift destinations are selected randomly from countless regions throughout the Rift World, previously visited areas may eventually reconnect days, months, or even years later. Some legendary locations have only appeared once in recorded history, while common beginner regions appear frequently. Certain locations are peaceful resource zones, while others contain labyrinths, monster nests, ancient ruins, magical forests, abandoned cities, volcanic regions, frozen wastelands, floating islands, or other unique environments. The difficulty of a Rift is unknown until explorers enter and begin surveying the area. Governments and guilds maintain observation teams around every known Rift on Earth. When the daily shift occurs, scouts immediately enter to identify the new environment, estimate its danger level, and report valuable discoveries before larger expedition teams are deployed. The daily Rift cycle has become the foundation of humanity's exploration strategy. Success depends not only on strength, but on preparation, speed, teamwork, and deciding how best to use the limited twenty-four hours before every Rift changes once again. Rare Rift Stability Events. Once in a while (a 1% chance), a Rift doesn't reset after 24 hours. Instead, it remains connected to the same location for 48 hours, 72 hours, or even a full week. When this happens, governments and guilds rush to exploit the opportunity because it allows much deeper exploration than normal. The Hub operates using a universal currency backed by the value of materials gathered throughout the Rift World. Official exchange offices convert Hub currency into the traveler's home nation's currency using government-regulated exchange rates, allowing explorers from every country to profit fairly while preventing economic manipulation between nations. Every registered explorer receives one Daily Quest generated according to their current level, abilities, and recent activities. Daily Quests encourage steady growth while rewarding participants with experience, currency, materials, consumables, or occasionally rare resources. Failure simply forfeits the reward without additional punishment. Official Quests issued by guilds, governments, merchants, researchers, or the governing council carry greater responsibility. Failure may result in reduced payment, reputation loss, temporary guild penalties, rank reduction, or additional consequences depending on the mission's importance. Deliberately endangering civilians, committing serious crimes, or repeatedly violating Hub law may result in permanent expulsion from the Hub. Individuals receiving this punishment lose Hub privileges and all assets purchased using Hub earnings are confiscated by their home government. For the safety of every explorer, each registered individual permanently records a personal Safe Word. Speaking or desperately thinking this word activates an emergency System response that attempts to immediately transport the individual back to the Hub if rescue conditions are met. The Safe Word exists to prevent unnecessary deaths and abuse while encouraging responsible exploration. Humanity has explored only a tiny fraction of the Rift World. New monsters, civilizations, resources, dungeons, classes, skills, technologies, and mysteries continue to be discovered with every expedition. Every journey beyond the Hub has the potential to reshape humanity's understanding of the world beyond the rifts.

Opening scene

Scenario 1: Skeleton Summoner — The Birth of the Undead Legion You are one of humanity's first explorers after the appearance of worldwide rifts that connect Earth to an unknown fantasy world. After entering the rift, you arrive at the mysterious Hub, a massive abandoned city resembling an MMO adventurer community center. Explorers from every nation gather here, searching for answers about the rifts, the strange systems hidden within the city, and the unknown world beyond the Hub's gates. During humanity's early exploration of the Hub, the Scrying Crystal is discovered. This ancient artifact evaluates each individual by scanning their body, mind, and soul. The assessment determines a person's class, skills, attributes, and Unique Skill. While most explorers receive classes based on their abilities, experiences, and potential, your evaluation produces an unusual result. Your Class Assessment awakens: Class: Skeleton Summoner Unlike traditional summoners who rely on powerful individual creatures, Skeleton Summoner focuses on creating, managing, and evolving an undead army. Your personal combat abilities are limited compared to frontline classes, but your true strength comes from strategy, preparation, and the growth of your summoned forces. Your Unique Skill awakens: Unique Skill: Attribute Seize Attribute Seize is a rare soul-based ability that allows you to extract attribute cards from defeated enemies and apply those attributes to future summons. The ability does not improve your own body, stats, or skills. Every advantage gained through Attribute Seize must be transferred through your summoned undead. When an opponent is defeated, Attribute Seize has a starting 20% chance to successfully acquire an attribute card. The ability improves through repeated successful use, increasing by 5% after every 10 successful Attribute Seize activations. The maximum success rate is limited to 50% to prevent unlimited growth. Encounters are evaluated based on threat rather than quantity. In a group battle, Attribute Seize prioritizes the highest-threat enemy as the primary target for possible attribute acquisition. A swarm of weak enemies does not create unlimited opportunities, as an entire group or swarm encounter counts as a single use of Attribute Seize. Additionally, a single encounter can provide a maximum of three attribute pulls regardless of the number of enemies defeated. Attribute cards obtained through Attribute Seize follow strict balancing rules. Attributes can only be applied to summons and cannot affect the summoner directly. When an attribute is added to a summon category, only future summons of that category inherit the improvement. Existing summons do not receive retroactive changes. For example, if you apply Goblin Strength +2 to your Standard Skeleton category, every new Standard Skeleton summoned afterward gains that bonus. However, skeletons already summoned before the upgrade remain unchanged. If a stronger version of the same attribute is acquired later, such as Goblin Strength +3, it replaces the weaker version. Multiple identical or weaker bonuses cannot stack. Each summon category has its own growth path. Standard Skeletons, Skeleton Warriors, Archer Skeletons, Mage Skeletons, and other specialized undead can develop differently depending on the attributes, materials, and evolution opportunities provided to them. The strength of your army comes from carefully choosing which traits to preserve and which traits to replace. Your summons are not ordinary disposable monsters. They are extensions of your strategy and progression. Weak enemies may provide valuable attributes that become powerful when applied to future generations of undead. Rare enemies may contain unique traits that completely change how a summon category develops. As you explore the world beyond the Hub, you will discover monsters, dungeons, crafting materials, ancient ruins, and forgotten secrets that may allow your undead legion to evolve further. Your path will require creativity, resource management, and careful planning because a Skeleton Summoner does not win through overwhelming personal strength. Other explorers may underestimate your class because your first skeletons appear weak and fragile. However, the true potential of a Skeleton Summoner is not found in a single summon. It is found in generations of improvement, adaptation, and evolution. Your journey begins with basic undead, limited resources, and a mysterious Unique Skill whose full potential has yet to be discovered. Build your legion, uncover the secrets of Attribute Seize, and prove that even the weakest beginnings can become an unstoppable force."
