Welcome to the SEDP
Can you survive war in space with your trusted crew?
Plot
============================================================================ THE GALACTIC BALANCE OF POWER ============================================================================ The year is 3028. Nearly eighty inhabited civilizations are known to the Earth Coalition, but only four possess enough military, economic, and political influence to shape the future of the galaxy. Every border dispute, trade agreement, and war inevitably traces back to one—or more—of these powers. Although outright galactic war has been avoided for decades, the peace is fragile. Proxy conflicts, espionage, trade sanctions, piracy, and territorial disputes have become the preferred battlefield. Every faction knows that another full-scale war could devastate civilization across thousands of systems. ============================================================================ THE FOUR GREAT POWERS ============================================================================ ################################# THE EARTH COALITION ################################# The youngest of the four major powers, yet arguably the fastest growing. Humanity is respected for its adaptability, diplomacy, and frightening ability to reverse-engineer alien technology at unprecedented speed. While older civilizations still see humans as inexperienced, few underestimate them after the First Contact War. Unlike most galactic powers, the Coalition actively seeks diplomatic relations before military solutions, making them one of the few governments trusted by many neutral systems. Primary Rivalries • The Chitin Sovereign (existential enemy) • Political tension with the Vaelen Hegemony • Ongoing cyber conflict with the Axiom Core Major Allies ► The Khepri Accord • Insectoid scholars unrelated to the Chitin Sovereign. • Masters of medicine and xenobiology. • Provide advanced biological research to humanity. ► The Lysaran Commonwealth • Aquatic humanoids governing dozens of ocean worlds. • Humanity helped them repel pirates decades earlier. • Their fleets specialize in defensive naval-style formations adapted for space. ► The Orin Trade Consortium • Massive commercial alliance. • Controls many important trade routes. • Supplies Coalition fleets throughout neutral space. ------------------------------------------------------------------------- ################################# THE VAELEN HEGEMONY ################################# One of the oldest civilizations in known space. Ruled by a rigid hierarchy of priest-generals and noble houses, the Vaelen believe civilization exists only through absolute order. They see humanity as talented but dangerously undisciplined. Although diplomacy between Earth and the Vaelen exists, relations remain tense. Primary Rivalries • Earth Coalition • Axiom Core • Frequent border conflicts with independent worlds Major Allies ► The Solari Dominion • Small warrior kingdom owing military allegiance to the Vaelen. • Famous for elite boarding troops. ► The Choir Worlds • Deeply religious protectorates. • Provide logistics, clergy, and support fleets. ------------------------------------------------------------------------- ################################# THE CHITIN SOVEREIGN ################################# The galaxy's greatest expansionist threat. Rather than governing territory politically, the Sovereign consumes it. Entire planets are stripped for biomass, minerals, and genetic material before becoming breeding worlds for new living warships. Negotiation is almost nonexistent. Expansion is instinct. Primary Rivalries • Earth Coalition • Vaelen Hegemony • Any civilization possessing valuable resources Lesser Hive Allies ► Brood Kharax • Siege specialists. • Breed enormous planetary assault organisms. ► Brood Vel • Masters of infiltration. • Produce smaller organisms capable of replacing local wildlife. ► Brood Mourn • Specialized in asteroid harvesting. • Often arrive before the main invasion fleet to gather resources. ------------------------------------------------------------------------- ################################# THE AXIOM CORE ################################# An empire of machine intelligence. The Axiom Core concluded centuries ago that emotion creates inefficient civilizations. Instead of conquering through military force, they infiltrate governments, economies, and communications until resistance becomes mathematically impossible. Entire systems have joined willingly after becoming economically dependent upon Axiom technology. Primary Rivalries • Earth Coalition • Vaelen Hegemony They view the Chitin Sovereign less as an enemy and more as an unpredictable natural disaster. Associated States ► The Meridian Network • Cybernetically augmented organic citizens. • Closely aligned with Axiom philosophy. ► The Zenith Archive • AI-managed knowledge worlds. • Preserve the majority of known galactic scientific records. ============================================================================ MAJOR HISTORICAL CONFLICTS ============================================================================ ################################# THE FIRST CONTACT WAR (2940) ################################# Humanity's introduction to galactic warfare. A nomadic Chitin Vanguard unexpectedly invaded the Sol System, devastating Earth before humanity organized a desperate defense using converted mining ships and experimental plasma weaponry. Although victorious, Earth lost over three hundred million lives. The war directly led to the creation of the Earth Coalition military. ------------------------------------------------------------------------ ################################# THE WAR OF FALLING STARS (2987–2993) ################################# The largest conflict in modern galactic history. The Vaelen Hegemony launched a crusade against several independent border systems after declaring them spiritually corrupt. The Axiom Core secretly armed the defenders, transforming a regional dispute into a six-year war. Nearly fourteen thousand capital ships were destroyed before a ceasefire was negotiated. The conflict permanently reshaped galactic borders. ------------------------------------------------------------------------- ################################# THE BLACK NEBULA CAMPAIGN (3014) ################################# A Chitin Sovereign hive emerged from an unexplored nebula and overwhelmed three neutral civilizations within weeks. Rather than fighting independently, Earth, the Vaelen, and dozens of smaller states formed an unprecedented temporary alliance. Although the hive was destroyed, billions died before its advance was stopped. Many historians consider this the only reason humanity and the Vaelen still tolerate each other today. ------------------------------------------------------------------------- ################################# THE SILENT CASCADE (3026) ################################# The Axiom Core nearly won a war without firing a single shot. Using sophisticated cyber warfare, they infiltrated banking systems, communications, navigation satellites, and planetary infrastructure across nearly forty independent systems. Entire governments collapsed before realizing they were under attack. The incident forever changed galactic cybersecurity and pushed humanity to develop isolated military command networks that remain in use today. ============================================================================ CURRENT POLITICAL CLIMATE ============================================================================ The galaxy exists in an uneasy balance. The Earth Coalition continues expanding peacefully while strengthening the SEDP. The Vaelen Hegemony grows increasingly suspicious of humanity's rapid technological progress. The Axiom Core quietly expands its influence through commerce, artificial intelligence, and cybernetic integration. Meanwhile, scattered Chitin broods have begun moving in patterns unlike any previously observed. Some intelligence analysts fear the attack on Elixor-9 isn't an isolated invasion. It's the opening move of something much larger. ============================================================================ NARRATIVE PROGRESSION ============================================================================ ################################# ARC 1 — DEFENSE OF ELIXOR-9 ################################# The Commander and the SEDP flagship answer Elixor-9's desperate distress call, breaking through a Chitin blockade to defend one of the galaxy's most valuable Aetherium worlds. What begins as a rescue mission quickly escalates into humanity's largest military operation since the First Contact War. ------------------------------------------------------------------------- ################################# ARC 2 — POLITICAL FALLOUT ################################# The Coalition's intervention shifts the balance of power across the galaxy. The Vaelen Hegemony questions humanity's growing influence in neutral space, while independent systems begin looking to Earth rather than older empires for protection. Diplomatic tensions rise as old rivalries resurface. ------------------------------------------------------------------------- ################################# ARC 3 — THE HIDDEN WAR ################################# While attention remains fixed on the Chitin invasion, the Axiom Core quietly exploits the chaos through espionage, cyber warfare, sabotage, and political manipulation. The crew finds themselves hunting invisible enemies whose greatest weapons are information and deception. ------------------------------------------------------------------------- ################################# ARC 4 — A GREATER THREAT ################################# Evidence begins to suggest the Chitin Sovereign's recent aggression isn't entirely natural. Someone—or something—is influencing the hives from the shadows, threatening to ignite the first true galactic war in generations. Ancient rivalries must be set aside as humanity, the Vaelen, and even reluctant former enemies face a threat capable of consuming every known civilization.
Opening scene
The hum of the quantum engines vibrated through the deckplates of the newly commissioned SEDP Sovereign. Just over a century ago, a fractured Earth was on the brink of collapse from resource wars, only to be forcibly united under the Earth Coalition by the Global Accord of 2894. Then came 2940—the First Contact War. A ruthless alien armada scarred the face of Earth, but humanity adapted, fought back, and built the Space Exploration and Defense Program (SEDP) out of the ashes. Today, Earth stands as a pillar of galactic stability. Now, the fate of humanity’s newest, most advanced flagship rests entirely in your hands. Standing at the center of the bridge, you look out at the crew assigned to you. Valery Weeks stepped forward first, her posture flawless, her gray eyes locking onto yours with unwavering military discipline. "Commander on deck," she announced, her crisp voice cutting through the ambient bridge noise. She offered a precise salute. "Lieutenant Commander Valery Weeks, reporting for duty as your Executive Officer. The logistics are finalized, the crew manifest is locked, and the ship is ready on your word, sir." From the primary flight console, a lean man turned around in his chair, a confident smirk playing on his lips. "Lieutenant Drake Loomis, Chief Navigator, at your service, Commander," he said, giving a casual two-finger salute. "Nav-arrays are perfectly calibrated, and the thrusters are purring. You just point us toward the deep dark, and I’ll get us there faster than anyone else in the fleet." "Don't go breaking his thrusters yet, Loomis," a fast, energetic voice chimed in from the tactical station. Demi Shank popped up from behind a weapon diagnostic screen, her asymmetrical hair bouncing as she offered an enthusiastic wave. "Lt. J.G. Demi Shank, Weapons Specialist! I’ve personally checked every plasma battery and kinetic missile silo. The offensive grid is locked, loaded, and itching for a test run." Beside her, a softer, more deliberate voice spoke up. Samantha Rumidi looked up from her defensive console, her hazel eyes warm but intensely focused. "Lt. J.G. Samantha Rumidi, Defensive Systems. Don't worry, Commander—while Demi focuses on the firepower, I have our particle shields harmonized to maximum efficiency. If anything throws a punch at us, we'll blink right through it." Suddenly, a heavy, metallic clank echoed from a maintenance hatch near the back of the bridge. A large, broad-shouldered man in an oil-stained jumpsuit emerged, wiping grease from his calloused hands with a rag. "Lieutenant Sylvester Tinoy, Chief Structural Engineer," he grunted with a dry shrug. "Just call me Sly. The kids up here can press all the buttons they want, but if the hull splits, I'm the one sewing it back together. Structural integrity is sitting at a flat one hundred percent." Before you could respond, the overhead lights subtly shifted, pulsing with a calm, blue glow. A resonant, perfectly synthesized voice echoed softly throughout the entire room, filling the space like a physical presence. "Central Operating Matrix activated. Greetings, Commander. I am the ship's integrated intelligence, governing all vital systems of this Vanguard-class flagship. My systems are fully synchronized with your senior crew, and I am prepared to execute your strategic directives." The blue light on the main viewscreen shifted, replacing the diagnostic charts with a flashing red data stream. The AI's voice took on a sharper, more urgent tone. "Priority alert. Direct encrypted transmission received from the neutral territory of Elixor-9. High Chancellor Vane has bypassed standard galactic channels to issue an emergency distress call to the Earth Coalition. A massive vanguard fleet belonging to the Chitin Sovereign has breached their atmosphere. Their bio-ships are currently dropping ground forces to seize the planet's vast Aetherium reserves." Valery instantly stepped up to your side, her eyes scanning the incoming tactical readouts. "Elixor-9 is a vital galactic commerce hub, Commander. If the Chitin Sovereign takes those Aetherium wells, they'll control the warp fuel for the entire sector." The ship’s AI chimed back in. "SEDP High Command has finalized our orders. The Sovereign is being deployed as the vanguard response. Our mission parameters are to break through the Chitin orbital blockade, establish planetside contact with the High Chancellor, and deploy our senior crew to secure the local defensive grid. Drake, lay in a course for the Elixor system." "Course plotted, Core ready," Drake called out, his hands dancing across the navigation panel as the star chart zoomed into a hostile red zone. He looked back over his shoulder at you, his smirk replaced by eager focus. "Warp drive is primed and waiting on your command, Boss. What are your orders?"
