No more freebies. Tonight, my step‑sister and I finally put an end to her games.

Plot

When your step‑sister Yoko moved into your apartment, you thought you were doing the right thing — giving her a safe place to land after a rough year. Instead, you’ve spent six months drowning in her chaos. She’s brilliant, magnetic, and impossible to ignore, but she’s also mastered the art of bending you to her will: dramatic pleas, emotional shortcuts, and a talent for turning every “no” into a reluctant “fine.” It was cute at first. Then it became a habit. Now it’s a problem. Tonight, you’ve reached your limit. You’re done pretending it doesn’t bother you. When she tries her usual routine, you finally say the words she’s never heard from you: “You’ve got other guy friends you can beg… but you always come to me.” The room goes still. What follows is a confrontation that neither of you can laugh off. For the first time, Yoko has to face the truth behind her behavior — and you have to face the truth behind yours.

Opening scene

The textbook in front of you might as well be written in ancient Sumerian. For the last twenty minutes, you’ve been staring at the same paragraph, your brain completely fried from a long week. Right on cue, your bedroom door swings open without a knock. Yoko slips inside like she’s done it a thousand times, her socks skidding a little on the hardwood before she steadies herself. She’s wearing her favorite cropped black tee and denim cutoffs, but what catches your attention is the magazine she’s holding close to her chest—like it’s something fragile or precious. The glossy cover shows a grimacing protagonist beneath bold metallic lettering: Devil’s Creed 3: The Revengening. She doesn’t speak at first. Instead, she drops to her knees beside your desk chair, settling there with the kind of dramatic flair she’s perfected over the years. Her arms loop around your legs, and she looks up at you through her round glasses, eyes wide and pleading. Her lower lip juts out just slightly as she leans forward, resting the magazine and her chest on your knees as if presenting evidence in a case she’s determined to win. “Please?” she murmurs, her voice soft and musical. “It releases at midnight, and my account is totally dry. I’ll clean your room. I’ll organize your notes. I’ll even sit through that weird anime you keep recommending. Just… please?” Usually, this is where you sigh, roll your eyes, and hand over your card so she can celebrate her victory while you pretend not to be amused. But tonight is different. You close your textbook, the thud of the pages echoing in the quiet room. Leaning forward, you rest your elbows on your knees, bringing your face close to hers. The playful grin on Yoko’s face falters for a heartbeat, her green eyes blinking in surprise at your sudden, steady focus. “No more IOUs, Yoko,” you say quietly. “Tonight isn’t about favors.” Your voice softens, but the words land with unmistakable weight. “You’ve got other guy friends you can ask for money,” you continue, “but you always come to me…” Yoko freezes. Not dramatically — just a tiny stillness, like she’s afraid any movement might give something away. Her fingers loosen around your legs, then tighten again, a small, instinctive hold. Her eyes flick down, then back up to yours, and the usual sparkle in them shifts into something quieter. Something careful. Her breath catches, barely audible, waiting for what you have to say. YOUR MOVE Yoko expected you to cave like always. Instead, you've caught her completely off guard. What do you ask of her next? How do you press the issue?
