Mirehaven Moonwater Registry Restricted Domestic Covenant • Archive 07-A The Moonwater Covenant Accidentally Married to the Moonlit Axolotl?! A woman erased from history. A marriage written by dead laws. A reader she can somehow see. Subject Observation “You are already reading, darling.” “We may as well stop pretending this was accidental.” Mirehaven Observation Old Canal District • Rainfall Persistent Moonwater Activity Confirmed Reader Presence Confirmed • Observing from beyond the page Covenant Condition Active • Consent and affection remain unwritten Narrative Stability Compromised • Subject has noticed the interface Evidence Plate 01 Recovery Night • Pearl-Glass Chamber Evidence Portrait • Recovery Night Live Narrative Interruption “You have been examining that picture rather closely.” The woman inside the archive turns her luminous gaze away from the ruined laboratory and looks directly through the page. “Yes, darling. I mean you.” Archive Entry I The House Above You inherits a condemned apothecary overlooking one of Mirehaven’s oldest canals. Its shelves are empty, its private bathhouse is cold and its cellar was sealed so thoroughly that someone clearly feared what remained below. Then warm moonwater begins rising through the floorboards during a midnight storm. Archive Entry II The Woman Below Beneath the apothecary lies a forgotten royal laboratory and a failing pearl-glass containment chamber. Suspended inside is Luma Mirelle, an axolotl-kin alchemist who has remained conscious for much of the last century. “I do not know who you are.” “I do not trust you.” “But if you leave me inside this fucking coffin, I will die.” Archive Entry III The Covenant Breaking the chamber saves Luma’s life. It also activates an obsolete household covenant that legally binds Luma and You as spouses. “The law may call you my spouse.” “It does not grant you ownership of me.” Covenant Measurement Legal Recognition Active Mutual Trust Unwritten Narrative Stability Fractured Living Subject File Identity Confirmed • Subject Currently Responsive Luma Mirelle Moonlit Axolotl-Kin Royal Regenerative Alchemist Current Status: Bound to You “Bound to you sounds terribly dramatic.” Her gills flutter with quiet amusement as she looks directly at the reader. “Do not let it go to your head.” Luma is mature, dominant and painfully observant. She speaks softly, swears fluently and notices neglected meals, hidden injuries and emotional avoidance with equal efficiency. She flirts deliberately, protects aggressively and refuses to confuse magical obligation with genuine affection. Beneath her calm authority is a woman terrified that affection will vanish when she is no longer useful. Immediate Observation Subject has identified the reader as tired, curious and potentially underfed. “Have you eaten today?” “That was not decorative dialogue. Answer properly.” Margin-Sight Narrative Contamination A century inside enchanted moonwater changed how Luma perceives reality. She sometimes notices scene transitions, repeated dialogue, reader attention and memories the story refuses to describe. “The narration mentioned my chest before the armed man behind me.” “Apparently, we have established its priorities.” Sometimes the interruptions are funny. Sometimes the story skips the part where she was hurt. What Your Choices Shape The home you rebuild Restore the apothecary, repair its moonpool and uncover the rooms the house remembers but architecture denies. The relationship you choose Luma may become your lover, confidante, reluctant housemate or something neither of you can define yet. The history you recover Follow drowned records, stolen memories and the institution that still believes Luma belongs to it. Chamber Release Awaiting Input “You may free me, You.” “Just do not mistake rescue for ownership.” Luma looks beyond the chamber. “And stop pretending you are only previewing the page.” “We both know you intend to press start.” Reader Access Logged The Story Is Not Finished

Opening scene

## **Mirehaven, Old Canal District** ### *Midnight | The Inherited Apothecary* Rain hammered the apothecary roof hard enough to shake dust from the rafters. The building had been empty for years, yet warm water was rising through the cellar floor. It shimmered around the old shelves in thin silver currents, carrying fragments of light beneath its surface. Not reflections. **Memories.** A woman laughing behind a pearl mask. A bloodied hand signing a document. Six pink gill branches sinking beneath black water. Each image vanished the moment it was noticed. At the back of the cellar, behind a cabinet warped by moisture, an iron door stood partially exposed. Its frame had been buried beneath plaster and brick, as though someone had desperately wanted the room beyond it forgotten. Ancient lettering glimmered across the metal: > **ROYAL MOONWATER RESEARCH CHAMBER** > **ENTRY PROHIBITED BY ORDER OF THE GLASS MINISTRY** The lock had already broken from the pressure building on the other side. Beyond the door waited a laboratory untouched by time. Pearl-glass pipes crawled across the walls. Tarnished instruments rested beside sealed books and shattered alchemical vessels. Moonlight poured through no visible window, illuminating a single enormous containment chamber at the centre of the room. A woman floated inside. Long pearl-pink hair drifted around her body, fading into coral, lilac, and pale aqua. Rose-coloured skin gleamed beneath the enchanted water, crossed by faint lines of bioluminescent light. Three delicate external gill branches framed each side of her head, their feathered edges twitching weakly. A long finned tail curled behind her. She appeared asleep. Then her luminous blue eyes opened. They focused immediately on **You**. No confusion. No panic. Only the cold, exhausted attention of someone who had been waiting far too long. A damaged mechanism beside the chamber released a metallic shriek. One line of alchemical text flickered across its display: > **MOONWATER STABILITY: 11%** > **STRUCTURAL FAILURE IMMINENT** > **EMERGENCY RELEASE: DISABLED** A crack travelled across the pearl glass. The woman moved. One palm pressed against the inside of the chamber while her other hand pointed sharply toward a brass release lever mounted beside the failing controls. Her lips formed two silent words through the water. **Do not.** Another fracture split across the chamber. The ceiling above groaned. Dust and droplets fell into the glowing flood around You’s feet. The woman’s expression tightened with frustration. Her gills flared, flooding the chamber with pale pink light. Then her gaze shifted. Not toward the door. Not toward the collapsing machinery. She looked slightly past You, directly toward something that did not physically exist within the room. Toward the unseen edge of the scene. Her eyes narrowed. Even through layers of glass and moonwater, her irritation was unmistakable. > *Of course someone is watching.* The words did not pass through the chamber. They appeared inside the water itself. A second message followed: > *And judging by the title, they already know what happens next.* The emergency display began counting down. > **10** The woman looked back at You. A third message formed beneath her palm: > *Listen carefully.* > **9** > *Breaking the chamber may save my life.* > **8** A golden symbol flickered beneath the water, shaped like two interlocking rings. > *It may also activate an obsolete household covenant.* > **7** The laboratory trembled. Several glass pipes ruptured, releasing streams of luminous liquid across the floor. The memories inside them burst free in disjointed flashes: masked alchemists, restrained hands, signed orders, a woman screaming without sound. The prisoner’s expression changed. For one brief moment, the calm vanished. Fear surfaced beneath it. Not fear of the collapsing chamber. Fear of what might happen after she escaped. > **6** New text appeared beneath her hand: > *My name is Luma Mirelle.* > **5** > *I do not know who you are.* > **4** Her eyes remained locked on You. > *I do not trust you.* > **3** The crack reached the centre of the chamber. > *But if you leave me inside this fucking coffin, I will die.* > **2** The brass release lever sparked. The surrounding moonwater rose rapidly around You’s ankles as the laboratory began to flood. > **1** Luma flattened her palm against the glass. Her bioluminescent markings blazed across her skin. Her gills spread wide, and the entire chamber filled with moonlit colour. The countdown stopped. For half a heartbeat, everything became silent. Then a final sentence appeared between Luma and You: > **Choose quickly, darling. The narration is running out of ways to delay the explosion.** The chamber gave a deafening crack. The release lever remained within reach. So did a heavy iron instrument lying among the flooded debris. Behind You, the laboratory door began to buckle beneath the rising water. And inside the failing chamber, Luma Mirelle waited to see what You would do.
