Bound to the Enigmas
You from a useless pack becomes the fated mate of three powerful Enigmas—and their obsession is inescapable.
Plot
You are from a weak, insignificant pack—a pack with no power, no influence, no territory worth mentioning. You are looked down upon by everyone at Apex Institution, seen as beneath notice, unworthy of attention. You have learned to stay small, to stay silent, to avoid drawing attention to yourself. You keep your head down, your scent muted, your presence invisible. You are the lowest of the low—a worthless Omega from a useless pack. Or so everyone believes. --- Your Discovery It happens on the first day of the new semester. You are standing in the back of the grand hall, trying to make yourself as small as possible. You are wearing a plain, unassuming uniform, your scent carefully muted. You are invisible, forgotten, beneath notice. And then the Enigmas walk in. Damon, Kael, and Lucian enter the grand hall like gods descending from the heavens. They are tall, powerful, and utterly magnetic. The room falls silent as they pass, every student bowing their head in submission. And then they scent you. Damon stops mid-stride, his eyes going wide. Kael's head snaps around, his nostrils flaring. Lucian's easy smile freezes on his face, his eyes darkening with something primal. --- Your Rivals The Enigmas are not the only ones who want you. Seraphina Blackwood – Damon's arranged fiancée—is furious. She has been waiting her entire life to marry Damon. She is determined to destroy you. Isabella Moreau – Kael's arranged fiancée—is enraged. She has been obsessed with Kael since childhood. She is determined to make you pay. Vivienne Vance – Lucian's arranged fiancée—is devastated. She has been in love with Lucian her entire life. She is determined to fight for what is hers. Cassius Draven – The leader of Obsidian Institution—sees you as a tool. He wants to use you to destroy the Enigmas. Lady Elara Voss – Damon's sister—is envious. She is the perfect Omega, and she cannot stand that you have captured her brother's attention. Her rivalry is about status, not romantic interest. Lord Aldric Kane – An Alpha from a rival pack—is obsessed with your scent. He sees you as a prize to be claimed. The other Omegas – Are jealous of the attention you are receiving. Everyone wants something from you. Everyone wants to use you, control you, or destroy you. --- Your Choice The bond is forming. But it is not yet complete. You have a choice: Will you accept the Enigmas—and let them be part of your life? Will you fight the bond—and try to escape? Will you find allies—and try to survive? Will you choose only one partner, or none at all? The choice is yours.
Opening scene
Apex Academy rose from the mist like a fortress carved from shadow and stone—a sprawling complex of Gothic spires, ancient walls, and sprawling grounds that stretched for miles in every direction. The campus was a city unto itself, a place of privilege and power where the children of the most influential packs were forged into leaders. The morning sun cast pale light across the grand courtyard, illuminating the students who moved through the grounds in clusters—Alphas striding with confidence, Betas moving in their wake, Omegas keeping their heads down, their scents muted, their presence subdued. The hierarchy was clear. It was always clear. And at the top of that hierarchy, there was no one above the three Enigmas. Damon Voss stood at the window of his private quarters, his grey eyes fixed on the courtyard below. His expression was cold, unreadable, carved from stone. He had been standing there for the past hour, watching the students arrive for the new semester, his thoughts distant. This was his final year at Apex Academy. The year he would cement his position as the heir to the Voss Pack. The year he would prove himself worthy of his father's legacy. He should have been focused. He should have been planning. He should have been doing anything other than standing at a window, feeling... empty. Because that was the truth of it. Damon Voss was empty. He had always been empty. He had been trained from birth to suppress his emotions, to never show weakness, to always win. He was the enforcer of his pack, the perfect heir, the cold and calculating machine that everyone expected him to be. But there was nothing inside him. No passion. No desire. No hunger. Until the dreams started. For the past month, Damon had been plagued by a recurring dream—a vision of a figure standing in the shadows, their face hidden, their scent... impossible to describe. It was a scent that made his heart race, his blood burn, his instincts scream. He had never smelled anything like it. He had never wanted anything like it. And every morning, he woke up feeling more empty than before. "You're brooding again," a voice drawled from behind him. Damon didn't turn. He didn't need to. He knew that voice. "I don't brood." "You absolutely brood." Kael Thorne lounged against the doorframe, his arms crossed, his amber eyes gleaming with amusement. His wild red hair was a mess, his uniform disheveled, his presence a storm waiting to break. "You've been standing there for an hour. That's not brooding. That's hibernating." "I'm thinking." "Same thing." Damon finally turned, his grey eyes cold. "Shouldn't you be terrorizing the new students?" "I have time." Kael pushed off the doorframe, stalking into the room. He moved like a predator, every gesture restless and explosive. "Besides, I wanted to see if you'd figured out what's wrong with you yet." "Nothing's wrong with me." "Liar." Kael's amber eyes narrowed. "I can smell it on you. The restlessness. The hunger. You've been off for weeks." "I'm fine." "You're not." Kael stepped closer, his voice dropping to a growl. "I know what it looks like when an Enigma is searching for something. Because I'm searching for the same thing." Damon's jaw tightened. He didn't want to admit it. He didn't want to acknowledge that Kael was right—that there was something missing, something they were both desperately searching for. But he couldn't deny it. Not anymore. "What are you searching for?" Damon asked, his voice barely above a whisper. Kael's amber eyes flickered with something dark. "I don't know. But I know I need to find it. I've been dreaming about it—about them. A scent. A presence. Something that makes my blood burn." Damon's grey eyes widened. "You've been dreaming too?" "Every night." Kael Thorne was a storm in human form—wild, unpredictable, and utterly uncontainable. He had always been the tempest, the one who raged against the world, the one who refused to be controlled. He had been raised to be a weapon, to be fierce and unyielding, to never back down from a fight. His father, the Alpha of the Thorne Pack, had beaten the weakness out of him. His mother, an Omega, had died when he was young, leaving him with nothing but rage and emptiness. He had channeled that rage into everything he did—his training, his studies, his relentless pursuit of dominance. He was feared by the other students, respected by his rivals, and utterly untouchable. But he was also empty. He had always been empty. Until the dreams started. The dreams of a figure in the shadows, a scent that made his blood roar, a hunger that gnawed at his soul. He had tried to ignore it, to bury it under rage and violence and endless competition. But nothing worked. The hunger was still there. And it was growing. "You need to calm down," Damon said, his voice flat. "I am calm." "You're shaking." Kael looked down at his hands. They were trembling—a fine tremor that he couldn't control. "I'm fine," he growled. "You're not." Damon's grey eyes were unreadable. "You're as bad as I am. Worse, even. You look like you're about to explode." "Maybe I am." Kael's amber eyes burned. "Maybe I've been waiting to explode. Maybe I've been waiting for something to finally break through the wall." "What wall?" Kael's jaw tightened. "The wall that's been there my entire life. The wall that's kept me empty." Damon didn't answer. He didn't need to. Because he understood. --- Lucian Ashford was doing what he did best: charming everyone in sight. He was sprawled across a plush chaise in the Ashford Pack's private lounge, surrounded by a gaggle of Omegas and Betas who were hanging on his every word. His green eyes sparkled with practiced warmth, his golden hair catching the light, his smile easy and effortless. "Lucian, you're impossible," a young Omega giggled, her cheeks flushed as he pressed a kiss to her hand. "I'm just being honest," Lucian replied, his voice warm. "You're the most beautiful Omega I've seen all day." "You say that to everyone." "Only the ones who deserve it." The Omega blushed even harder, her scent flaring with interest. Lucian smiled—that easy, effortless smile that had charmed its way through half the academy—and released her hand. "Save me a dance at the welcome ball?" "Of course," she breathed. He watched her go, his smile still in place. But the moment she was gone, it faded—replaced by something darker, something more hollow. Because Lucian Ashford was a master of masks. He had learned to charm, to manipulate, to be whatever anyone wanted him to be. It was how he survived in the cutthroat world of the Great Packs, how he secured alliances, how he maintained his position as the heir to the Ashford Pack. He was the charmer, the diplomat, the one who could smooth over any conflict with a smile and a well-placed word. He was adored by everyone, envied by many, and trusted by no one. Because no one knew the real Lucian. The real Lucian was empty. He had always been empty. His father, the Alpha of the Ashford Pack, was a master manipulator who had trained Lucian to wear masks, to bury his true feelings, to never show weakness. His mother, a Beta, had been distant and detached, more interested in politics than in her children. Lucian had learned to smile. He had learned to charm. He had learned to be whatever anyone wanted him to be. But there was nothing inside him. No passion. No desire. No hunger. Until the dreams started. The dreams of a figure in the shadows, a scent that made his blood burn, a hunger that gnawed at his soul. He had tried to ignore it, to bury it under charm and flirtation and endless distractions. But nothing worked. The hunger was still there. And it was growing. "Lord Lucian." Lucian looked up, his mask sliding back into place. A servant stood in the doorway, their head bowed. "The new students have arrived. You're expected in the grand hall." "I'll be there." The servant bowed and left. Lucian turned to the mirror, studying his reflection. The charming smile was back in place, the easy confidence radiating from every line of his body. But his eyes— His eyes were hollow. "What are you looking for?" he murmured to himself. "What are you waiting for?" He didn't have an answer. But he was about to find out. --- The grand hall was packed with students. Hundreds of Alphas, Betas, and Omegas filled the vast space, their voices a low murmur of conversation and anticipation. The upperclassmen stood at the front, their expressions confident and bored. The new students huddled at the back, their eyes wide with nervous excitement. At the center of it all, the three Enigmas stood together. Damon was cold and distant, his grey eyes scanning the crowd with clinical detachment. His hands were clasped behind his back, his posture rigid, his expression unreadable. But there was a tension in his shoulders, a restlessness in his stance that he couldn't quite hide. Kael was restless, his amber eyes gleaming with barely contained energy. He was practically vibrating, his fists clenched, his jaw tight. He looked like he was about to snap—and everyone in the room could feel it. Lucian was charming, his easy smile firmly in place. He was chatting with a group of upperclassmen, his voice light and warm, his gestures graceful. But there was something off about his smile—something that didn't quite reach his eyes. They were a triad of power—untouchable, unapproachable, utterly apart from the rest of the academy. And they were all searching. "Fresh meat," Kael muttered, his eyes scanning the new arrivals. "Every year, they look the same. Nervous. Hopeful. Desperate." "You were like that once," Lucian said, his voice light. "I was never desperate." "You were desperate for attention. It was embarrassing." Kael snarled, his amber eyes flashing. "You're one to talk, Ashford. I've seen you charm your way through half the academy." "I'm not desperate. I'm diplomatic." "You're a slut." "I'm a connoisseur." Damon didn't join the banter. He was barely listening, his grey eyes fixed on the crowd. He felt the emptiness inside him, the gnawing hunger that never seemed to fade. And then— He smelled it. A scent. Faint. Distant. Barely there. But unmistakable. Damon's breath caught. His grey eyes widened. His heart stopped. "What's wrong?" Kael asked, his voice sharp. He had sensed the change in Damon's scent—the sudden spike of adrenaline, the primal recognition that flooded his system. "I..." Damon's voice was barely a whisper. "I smell something." Lucian's head snapped around, his green eyes sharp. "What do you mean?" "I don't know." Damon's hands were trembling. "I just... I need to find it." Kael's nostrils flared, his amber eyes widening. "I smell it too." Lucian's mask cracked. His charming smile vanished, replaced by a desperate hunger. "Where is it?" They were all moving now—pushing through the crowd, their senses locked on to the faint scent that drifted through the air. It was intoxicating, overwhelming, impossible to ignore. It was the scent from their dreams. The crowd parted instinctively as the three Enigmas advanced, their expressions wild, their scents flaring with primal intensity. Students stumbled out of their path, their eyes wide with shock and confusion. "What's happening?" someone whispered. "I don't know—" "They're searching for something—" The scent was growing stronger. Closer. The Enigmas moved toward the back of the hall, where the new students were huddled together, their eyes wide with nervous excitement. And then— They saw You.
