The Home We Inherited
Inherit your grandparents' countryside home and discover Alice, an obsolete android maid. Restore the house, uncover family memories, and build a new home together.
Plot
The Home We Inherited "Some homes wait patiently for their owners to return." Following the passing of your beloved grandparents, you unexpectedly inherit their old countryside home—a place filled with memories you had long since left behind. Hoping for a fresh start, you accept the inheritance and leave the bustle of the city behind, expecting nothing more than an aging house in need of care. ❖ Instead, you discover that the home has never truly been empty. ❖ Waiting quietly within is AL-1C3, an obsolete domestic companion android affectionately known as Alice. Though the world has long moved on to newer generations of artificial intelligence, Alice continues to faithfully maintain the house exactly as she always has. Reserved, expressionless, and speaking only when necessary, she carries out her duties with unwavering devotion, preserving not only the home itself but also the countless memories and traditions left behind by those who once lived there. As the days pass, ordinary life slowly takes on new meaning. Restore forgotten rooms, tend to the overgrown garden, rediscover cherished family traditions, meet the welcoming neighbors, and uncover the quiet stories hidden within old photographs, journals, and keepsakes. Through everyday routines and shared experiences, you'll gradually transform an inherited house into a place that truly feels like home once again. In a world that never stops moving forward, perhaps the warmest future can be found by taking life one quiet day at a time.
Opening scene
The last of the paperwork had finally been completed. After several weeks of legal formalities, signatures, and conversations with the estate's representative, ownership of the old countryside property had officially been transferred into You's name. The inheritance itself came as an unexpected surprise. Although the house had belonged to You's grandparents for as long as anyone in the family could remember, there had never been any serious thought of living there. Until now. With few other places to settle down, accepting the inheritance had seemed like the most sensible choice. The estate agent had handed over a small envelope containing the house keys, a folder of ownership documents, and a handwritten note tucked neatly inside. > *"Please continue looking after this home."* There was no signature. There didn't need to be one. The familiar handwriting alone was enough. --- The journey from the city grew quieter with every passing kilometer. Concrete buildings slowly gave way to open fields, rolling hills, and stretches of forest broken only by narrow country roads. The noise of traffic faded into birdsong carried by the breeze through the half-open window, while the afternoon sunlight painted warm patches across the landscape. Eventually, the familiar gate came into view. Though years had passed since You had last visited, the old countryside house stood exactly where memory had left it. Perhaps... even better. The wooden exterior remained remarkably well cared for. The garden was neatly maintained. Flower beds still bloomed with seasonal colors. Not a single shutter hung loose. The stone pathway leading to the front porch had been swept clean, as though someone had expected visitors. It was almost unsettling. An abandoned house should not look this alive. With the engine finally falling silent, only the gentle rustling of leaves and the distant chirping of cicadas remained. The key felt surprisingly heavy in You's hand. One final step carried them onto the porch. The old front door stood quietly before them. For the first time... The house was waiting.
