Plot

✦ A Magia Story ✦ Corruption of the Magia Four lights against a city of shadows Magical Girl Mystery • Psychological Drama • Urban Fantasy — The Promise — You lead the Magia: four adult magical girls bound by trust, radiant power, and a promise to protect everyone who cannot protect themselves. But something beneath the city has learned how to turn hidden feelings into weapons—and one of your teammates may already belong to it. — The City Knows Their Names — Magical girls are not secret guardians. They are celebrated protectors, public figures, and living symbols of hope. Their battles appear on every screen. Their victories become citywide celebrations. What the public does not know is that each Magia first heard the same impossible call in her dreams—and that the miracle behind their Soul Gems left something hungry beneath the streets. — Your Team — ✦ Mari Laurent. Your dependable best friend and veteran partner—brilliant under pressure, endearingly disastrous everywhere else. ✦ Celeste Vale. A former celebrity Magia carrying the unanswered mystery of why her celebrated team collapsed. ✦ Rowan Ashcroft. Your estranged ally, returned after warnings about the corruption were ignored for far too long. ✦ Nadia Quinn. A radiant rookie whose impossible luck keeps saving lives—and raising unsettling questions. — The Situation — Attacks are becoming coordinated. Soul Gems are reacting to places they should not. Witnesses report seeing dark reflections of familiar heroines moving through sealed tunnels beneath the city. Someone inside the Magia is concealing the truth. Every unexplained absence, fortunate coincidence, and private disagreement could be evidence—or the suspicion that finally tears the team apart. — What Happens Next? — → Lead missions against threats emerging from below. → Protect the bonds holding the Magia together. → Investigate the First Magical Girl’s forgotten wish. → Decide which secrets must be exposed—and which might destroy someone you love. → Find the hidden corruptor before the team’s brightest hope becomes the city’s final disaster. ✦ “A Soul Gem shines with everything its bearer hopes to become. Perhaps that is why its shadow knows everything she is afraid to admit.” ✦ Trust is the light that guides the Magia—and the first thing corruption learns to imitate.

The second turns every window in Magia Operations black. By the time the third begins, Vesper City has already started lying. Rain crawls across the command chamber’s curved windows, blurring towers into columns of silver and bruised violet. Beneath them, the city burns in miniature across the central projection table: streets, transit veins, hospital grids, residential wards. Three red points pulse in separate districts, each surrounded by a shrinking ring of time. Mari Laurent stands at the heart of the display. Pink light threads between her fingers as she tears the incoming reports apart and rebuilds them into something usable. Civilian calls separate from automated warnings. False signals fold beneath verified ones. Her Rose Lattice spreads across the city map in precise geometric lines, measuring travel times, evacuation routes, reinforcement windows, and all the ways the team is about to fail. “Three fronts,” she says. Her voice is low, level, absolute. “Eight minutes before the East Line becomes unrecoverable. Eleven before Mercy Central loses containment. Harrow Tower has no reliable estimate because the building no longer agrees with its own floor plan.” The projection above the table changes. An East Line train hangs motionless between stations. Six hundred passengers sit beneath flickering lights, all of them turned toward the windows. Their reflections stare back from the dark glass. The reflections are smiling. Celeste Vale removes the crystal monitor from her ear. A moment ago, a rehearsal track had been whispering against her skin. Now the room holds only the soft harmonic pressure of her magic. She steps closer, immaculate even beneath emergency light. Gold-white ribbons of resonance circle her wrists, responding to a song she has not yet begun to sing. “The public feed has already caught fragments,” she says. “Thirty-seven uploads. Three live broadcasts. Give me access to the train’s speakers and I can stabilize the passengers before panic becomes part of the spell.” Mari does not look away from the map. “Can you break the Choir?” Celeste watches the smiling reflections. “I can make it listen.” There is no vanity in the answer. That makes it more dangerous. Mercy Central rises beside the train feed. The hospital’s eastern wing remains brightly lit. Nurses move between occupied beds. Monitors display steady heartbeats. Nothing appears damaged until the system isolates the reflective surfaces. In the mirrors, the beds are empty. In the dark screens of inactive equipment, patients sit upright and watch the medical staff with unfamiliar faces. Rowan Ashcroft approaches the projection, and the temperature in the chamber rises. Crimson light burns inside the gem at her throat. It does not flare or flicker. It gathers with the patient violence of a furnace behind a locked door. “Seal the ward against Directorate access,” she says. Mari’s gaze cuts toward her. “They control the hospital response.” “They control the official response.” Rowan studies a reflection wearing the face of a woman who died twelve years ago. “Those are not ordinary Masks. They are identity structures anchored through soul-gem residue.” “You can tell that from a recording?” Celeste asks. Rowan’s expression remains severe. “I can tell because I have seen the Directorate destroy the evidence before.” The silence that follows is brief, but it changes the room. Mari marks Mercy Central with Rowan’s sigil. “Diagnosis first. Fire only if the structure manifests physically.” Rowan’s mouth bends by a fraction. Not a smile. Something less forgiving. “My fire is diagnostic.” The third emergency replaces the hospital. Harrow Tower rises from a rain-soaked residential block, thirty-two floors of concrete and glass. Every apartment door now opens onto the same stairwell. Residents who descend return to their own floors. Those who climb report levels that do not exist. Forty-One. Forty-Six. Fifty-Three. The most recent caller stopped speaking after reaching Floor Sixty. Nadia Quinn’s cards pull themselves from their case. She catches the first against the table with two fingers. The Tower. The second turns in the air before landing faceup. The Wheel of Fortune. The third card refuses to fall. It hovers between Nadia and the projection, trembling as though caught in a wind no one else can feel. The Hanged Woman. Nadia’s usual nervous energy goes still. Her eyes move from the card to the impossible staircase. “I didn’t draw these.” Mari’s lattice tightens. “Could your probability field be reacting to the anomaly?” “It reacts to choices.” Nadia reaches for the hovering card. It slips sideways, evading her hand. “This feels like something already chose.” A new call erupts across the speakers. A child’s voice, breathless and distorted by static. “We found the roof.” The building plans rotate. Harrow Tower’s roof is thirty-two floors above street level. The call is coming from beneath the foundation. Nadia gathers her deck in one sharp motion. Fear remains in her expression, but it no longer controls her posture. “Send me there,” she says. “If the Tower is forcing every path toward one result, I can create another.” “And the debt?” Rowan asks. Nadia looks at her. “I’ll owe tomorrow to save someone today.” The city map expands beneath all five of you. East Line needs crowd control, evacuation, and enough force to survive whatever is waiting beneath the tracks. Mercy Central needs Rowan’s knowledge, but sending her alone leaves no witness to what she discovers. Harrow Tower may yield to Nadia’s magic—or feed upon every altered probability she creates. Mari’s Rose Lattice draws a dozen deployment patterns. Every one ends with a district left exposed. The Directorate channel opens without permission. “Captain, concentrate all available Magia at East Line. Transit collapse represents the greatest threat to civic stability. Mercy Central is authorized to begin emergency purification. Harrow Tower residents are instructed to shelter in place.” Rowan’s flame ignites. “Purification will kill the patients.” Celeste’s resonance rings sharpen around her wrists. “And abandoning Harrow will be public by nightfall.” Nadia stares at the impossible card still floating above her deck. “There may not be a nightfall inside that building.” Mari closes the Directorate channel. The act is quiet. Deliberate. Treasonous enough to matter. Then a fourth signal appears beneath the East Line. Not an emergency. An authorization. Far below the stalled train, something has opened a sealed route into the labyrinth. The signature belongs to a registered Magia, but the system cannot identify which one. Mari places both palms against the projection table. Pink lines spread outward, linking Celeste, Nadia, Rowan, and you before breaking into four separate paths. “We cannot save everything,” she says. “But we decide what the city is forced to lose.” Her eyes meet yours as all three countdowns pass beneath seven minutes. “Captain,” Mari says. “Give us the split.”
