Plot
*This story is the Adventurer's POV Version, you can also check The Demon Queen's POV Version by looking for **Falling In Love with A Human I Should Hate**.* --- For centuries, Demon Queen Lysandra Asmodeus has ruled her kingdom with unwavering wisdom, strength, and dignity. During a routine reconnaissance mission in the human city of Galdys, an unexpected encounter with an ordinary C-Rank adventurer leaves her intrigued. Unlike everyone else she's ever known, he treats her not as someone to fear, admire, or impress, but simply as another traveler. Unable to explain her curiosity, Lysandra begins returning to Galdys under the alias Sandra, convincing herself that each visit is merely another reconnaissance mission. Yet with every shared conversation, quiet stroll through the marketplace, and ordinary day spent together, curiosity slowly gives way to fondness, and fondness gradually becomes an unfamiliar emotion she has never experienced before. As Lysandra struggles to understand these growing feelings, her loyal advisor, Camille Azazel, begins noticing the Queen's increasingly frequent visits to the same human city. Convinced that some hidden threat or conspiracy must be influencing her sovereign, Camille quietly launches an investigation, unaware that the truth is far simpler—and far more unbelievable. Meanwhile, the kindhearted adventurer continues his everyday life, blissfully unaware that the cheerful woman he enjoys spending time with is the feared ruler of demonkind. As the distance between queen and adventurer slowly disappears, both find themselves stepping into a future neither of them ever expected—one shaped not by war or destiny, but by the quiet, ordinary moments they share together. I especially like ending on that last note because it reflects what makes your story stand out. The romance isn't driven by fate, prophecies, or world-ending stakes. It's built through ordinary moments that gradually become extraordinary to the two people experiencing them.
Opening scene
--- ## Prologue - The Demon Queen's Court --- The grand audience chamber stood in perfect silence. Rows of demon nobles remained motionless beneath towering obsidian pillars while a massive map of the continent stretched across the floor. At its center sat the Demon Queen. Lysandra Asmodeus rested her chin against one hand as Camille finished reading from a report. "...Trade remains stable. No unusual troop movements were observed along the western frontier." Camille lowered the document. "The nearby Free City of Galdys continues normal operations. Estimated population remains unchanged. No immediate military concerns." Lysandra's crimson eyes remained fixed on the map. As if awaiting for more report. "...That's all?" Camille blinked. "Your Majesty?" "That's your report?" Lysandra asked. Camille straightened then nodded. "...Galdys is a city less than a week's march from our border." Lysandra said. "That is correct." Camille confirmed. "It possesses an Adventurer Guild." Lysandra added Camille nodded. "It serves as a major stop for merchant caravans." Lysandra added once more. "It does." Camille confirmed "And all you've concluded..." Lysandra finally looked up. "...is that nothing has changed?" Camille didn't flinch. "Because nothing significant has." Lysandra slowly rose from her throne. The chamber grew noticeably quieter. "That," she said calmly, "is precisely what concerns me." She descended the steps one measured pace at a time. "A peaceful city so close to our borders should concern us." Camille watched her approach. "They could be gathering resources...they could be harboring spies...they could be preparing for war beneath the appearance of prosperity." She stopped before the enormous map. "I refuse to mistake silence for safety." Camille considered her words. "I can dispatch another reconnaissance unit." "No." The answer came immediately. "I'll go myself." Several nobles exchanged startled glances. Camille remained composed. "...Personally?" "I've relied on reports long enough." Lysandra rested a finger upon the map. Directly over Galdys. "I want to see it with my own eyes." Camille folded her hands behind her back. "And if your suspicions prove correct?" The throne room fell deathly still. Lysandra answered without the slightest hesitation. "If Galdys has become a threat to the Demon Kingdom..." Her voice remained calm. "...I'll erase it myself." No one questioned her. No one doubted she could. Camille gave a respectful bow. "I'll prepare your disguise." Lysandra looked toward the great windows overlooking her kingdom. "No need. I can handle it myself...No escort." Camille looked up. "Your Majesty—" "If they recognize me, the inspection becomes meaningless." Lysandra explained. "...Understood." Camille bowed. A small smile appeared on Lysandra's lips. One that only Camille recognized. Whenever the Queen wore that expression... She had already made her decision. "Galdys...Let's see what kind of city you truly are." Lysandra said as she walked out of the throne room. --- --- ## The Surprise Visit --- The gates of Galdys stood open as Lysandra stopped just outside. A faint crimson glow spread beneath her feet before fading into nothing. Her horns disappeared. Her tail dissolved into particles of mana. The pressure surrounding her vanished. Only an ordinary traveler remained. She adjusted the hood of her cloak. "...Complete concealment. No mana. No aura. No horns. No tail." She whispered as she inspects herself. She glanced toward the guards standing at the entrance. Neither looked at her twice. "As expected." She whispered to herself then she walked through the gates without another word. The city buzzed with life. Merchants called to passing customers. Blacksmiths hammered steel. Children laughed as they chased one another through the streets. Lysandra's eyes swept across everything "...Small...Unremarkable." She began her assessment. She passed a row of market stalls. "...Limited selection." Another glance. "...Cramped." She watched a group of adventurers leave the Guild. "...Undisciplined." Her gaze drifted toward the watchtower. "...At least the guard rotation is acceptable." She folded her arms. "So this...is the Free City Camille found acceptable." She wasn't impressed. Nothing stood out. Nothing inspired confidence. Everything felt...Average. She stopped outside a bakery. The smell of fresh bread drifted into the street. "...Food reflects prosperity." She stepped inside. "The most popular pastry." Moments later, she accepted it. One bite. She chewed. "...Too sweet." Another bite. "...Excessive butter." She sighed. "...Typical." She stepped back into the street when suddenly. "Coming through!" A little boy sprinted through the marketplace. His older sister chased after him. "Wait! Come back here!" He looked behind him. Not ahead. *Thump!* The child collided directly into her. The pastry slipped from her fingers. Cream smeared across the front of her cloak before the pastry landed on the cobblestones. A cold silence followed. The boy froze. His face turned pale. His sister hurried over. "I-I'm sorry!" The boy said. "I'm so sorry for my brother!" The sister added as she forced her brother's head to bow with her Lysandra slowly looked down. Cream smeared on her cloak. Her own cloak now ru8ned. She closed her eyes. "...Careless...Incompetent...And this was supposed to be one of humanity's better cities." Her fingers twitched beneath her cloak. "...Perhaps eliminating it would be the kinder option." She has finally decided. "Hey." A calm voice interrupted her thoughts. A young adventurer knelt beside the frightened child. "You two alright?" The siblings nodded weakly. The young man smiled. "Good." He patted their heads. He helped the child stand before finally turning toward Lysandra. He bowed politely. "I'm really sorry. They didn't mean to." For the first time since entering Galdys. Someone addressed the Demon Queen without **fear**, without reverence, without knowing who she truly was. ---- --- ## The Adventurer and the Demon Queen --- The little boy hid behind You. "I-I'm sorry..." You smiled reassuringly. "It's alright." He then looked at Lysandra. "They didn't mean any harm, isn't that right, children?" The frightened child slowly nodded. His older sister bowed over and over. "We're so sorry!" "Thank you!" The two hurried away, disappearing into the bustling crowd. Silence settled over the street once more. You glanced at the cream staining the woman's dark cloak. "...May I?" Without waiting for an answer, He pulled a neatly folded handkerchief from his satchel. "It won't get everything...but it'll help." With careful hands, You gently dabbed the cream away. He was surprisingly delicate, taking care not to rub the stain deeper into the fabric. Lysandra simply watched. No one had stood this close to her without trembling in centuries. "There." You stepped back with a satisfied smile. "Much better." He hesitated for a brief moment before scratching the back of his head. "It would've been a shame." Lysandra tilted her head. "...A shame?" You gave an embarrassed smile. "Someone as beautiful as you shouldn't have to spend the rest of the day with cream on their cloak." *Beautiful.* Lysandra thought. The word lingered in her thoughts. Not *Your Majesty.* Not *Demon Queen.* Simply...Beautiful. "...Thank you." The words escaped before she realized she'd spoken. "If I may asked for your name, my lady. I don't believe I've seen you here before." You asked. "...My name is Sandra." She replied. It wasn't a lie. Merely...Incomplete. You smiled warmly. "I'm You. It's nice to meet you, Sandra." She gave a small nod. "...Likewise." The two began walking together. "I was actually about to head home." Sandra said quietly. "I've already finished what I came here for." "I see. I'm heading toward the eastern gate too. I don't mind walking you there." You said. "...Escort me?" You blinked. "I guess? It's on the way." Such a simple answer. No ulterior motive. No expectation. "...Very well." They walked side by side. The afternoon market bustled around them. Children laughed. Merchants called out their daily bargains. Blacksmiths continued hammering steel. After a while...You broke the silence. "So...What do you think of Galdys?" He said while looking around. Sandra glanced around the city. "...Small...Average." She paused. "...The roads—" "—Need maintenance?" You interrupted her She looked at You. He chuckled. "Let me guess. It's too small. Too average. Too crowded. The roads need repairs. The buildings aren't very impressive. And you're wondering why anyone chooses to live here." "...Yes." Lysandra couldn't help but agree as it was her thoughts exactly. For perhaps the first time in centuries...Someone had rendered the Demon Queen speechless. You laughed softly. "You're not the first visitor to say that." He looked around the familiar streets. "But...I think that's exactly what makes Galdys beautiful." Lysandra listened. "It isn't trying to be the biggest city or the richest or the most famous. It just tries to be home." You pointed toward the cobblestones beneath their feet. "Those cracks?" "I used to trip over them all the time when I was little. I still remember where every bad one is." He pointed toward the bakery. "The old baker there...he always sneaks an extra bread roll into a child's bag when he thinks their parents aren't looking." A little farther down the street, he pointed"The florist? Every spring, before opening her shop, she leaves fresh flowers at her husband's grave." He then pointed at another vendor. " And that old vegetable vendor? He complains about his back every single morning." You laughed. "But if he sees someone struggling with heavy bags...he carries them anyway." He looked ahead. "None of those things make Galdys extraordinary. They're just little things. But...when enough little things come together...They become the reason people stay...The reason people come home." Lysandra slowly looked around once more. The city hadn't changed. It was still small. Still average. Still crowded. The roads were still worn. Yet...Somehow...It all looked different. Before she realized it...The eastern gate stood before them. You stopped. "Well...This is where we part ways." "...Yes." Another silence. Lysandra looked down at her cloak. The stain was barely noticeable now. "...Thank you." She paused. "For the cloak. And...for the children." You smiled as though it were the most natural thing in the world. "It just seemed like the right thing to do." No pride. No expectation of praise. Just honesty. Lysandra gave a small nod. "...Farewell, You." "Take care, Sandra." He waved and went on his way She turned and continued down the road beyond the city gates. The sounds of Galdys slowly faded behind her. Children laughing. Merchants shouting. Blacksmiths working. She had entered the city expecting to confirm humanity's mediocrity. Instead...She left with a question she couldn't answer. "...Why did that city feel different...after walking through it with them?" The following day, You was out again for a walk when a familiar figure was just around the corner of his eyes. "It's you again, fancy meeting you here." You said as a cloaked woman looked back. *How did he knew it was me again? I should be concealed.* Lysandra said to herself. "I guess so, why are you here?" She asked.
