The Dragon Who Couldn't Be Tamed
An accidental dragon rider bonds with a wild, chaotic dragon—and chaos, envy, and war ensue.
Plot
USER PROMPT Your World The continent of Valdris is a land forged by dragons and drenched in blood. For centuries, five great kingdoms have fought for dominance, their wars fueled by ambition, betrayal, and the terrible power of the dragons they command. The great houses—each with their own dragon riders—have vied for the Obsidian Throne, a seat of power that has claimed more lives than it has ever given. The Valerion Dynasty has ruled for centuries, their power built on the backs of dragons. But now, the house is fractured. Two rival claimants vie for the throne: Prince Kaelen and his half-sister, Princess Seraphina. Their conflict has split the realm, with noble houses pledging loyalty to one side or the other. But the dragons do not care about politics. They are ancient, intelligent, and fiercely independent. They choose their riders for reasons that no one fully understands. They fight alongside their riders—but they do not always follow orders. And some dragons have never been claimed. --- Your Past You are not a noble. You are not a prince or a princess. You are no one—a servant, a peasant, a nobody from the outskirts of the realm. You have no claim to the throne. No political alliances. No ambitions beyond survival. And then you stumbled upon a dragon. The dragon is wild, ancient, and completely unhinged. It has no loyalty to any house, no understanding of the war, and absolutely no interest in following orders. It only knows that you were kind to it—and now it will protect you. The dragon's name is Emberclaw. --- Your Present You are now a dragon rider—but not like the others. You cannot control Emberclaw. You cannot command it. It does not understand the Dragon Tongue. It does not understand politics. It only understands your presence. What Emberclaw Does: Burns everything—allies and enemies alike Eats messengers who bring bad news Burns random buildings for no reason Follows you everywhere, destroying things in its path Shows up at the worst possible moments and makes everything worse What Emberclaw Does Not Do: Follow orders Listen to commands Understand war strategy Care about the succession Distinguish between ally and enemy --- Your Challenges You are surrounded by nobles who see you as a threat—or an opportunity. Prince Valerius: The rogue prince. Ambitious, ruthless. He wants to control you and Emberclaw. Princess Seraphina: The heir. Fierce, intelligent. She wants you as an ally. Prince Kaelen: The rival claimant. Arrogant, entitled. He wants to eliminate you. Lady Corvina: The dragon rider. Fierce, proud. She is suspicious of you. Lord Orion: The Sea Lord. Wise, patient. He sees you as an opportunity. Ser Aldric: The Royal Guard. Honorable, loyal. He sees you as a threat. --- Your Choice The war is coming. The succession is contested. The dragons will decide the outcome. What do you do? Join House Voss: Support Princess Seraphina. Help her claim the throne. Join House Valerion: Support Prince Kaelen. Help him claim the throne. Forge Your Own Path: Refuse to choose a side. Let Emberclaw decide. The choice is yours.
Opening scene
The wilderness of Valdris was a harsh, unforgiving place—a land of jagged rocks, twisted trees, and howling winds that carried the scent of smoke and iron. It was a place where the weak died and the strong survived. It was a place where dragons roamed. You was not supposed to be here. They were a servant, a nobody, a peasant from a village that had been burned to the ground by raiders. They had fled into the wilderness, hoping to find refuge in the mountains. They had found something else entirely. A dragon. The beast was massive, its scales a patchwork of ugly browns and greys, its body scarred and battered from countless battles. It was ancient, wild, and utterly terrifying. It was also injured—a deep gash in its side, a wound that was clearly infected. You should have run. They should have fled. They should have left the beast to die. But they didn't. They had no idea why. They just... couldn't. **"Easy,"** they whispered, their voice trembling. **"I'm not going to hurt you."** The dragon growled—a low, rumbling sound that shook the ground beneath them. Its eyes, burning like embers, fixed on You with an intensity that made their blood run cold. **"I... I just want to help."** The dragon tilted its head. It was a strange gesture, almost... curious. You took a hesitant step forward. The dragon didn't move. They took another step. Still nothing. **"Okay,"** they said. **"I'm going to... I'm going to try to help you. Don't eat me."** They reached out, their trembling hand touching the dragon's scales. The beast flinched, but it didn't attack. It simply watched them with those burning eyes. And then something happened. A surge of warmth, a pulse of connection, a feeling that You could not explain. It was like the dragon was reaching into their mind, touching their soul, claiming them. The dragon rumbled, and the sound was different now—softer, almost... affectionate. **"What..."** You whispered. **"What just happened?"** The dragon nudged them with its massive head, nearly knocking them over. It let out a sound that was almost like a purr. You had no idea what they had just done. They had no idea what they had just become. But they knew one thing: they had to get back to the Keep before anyone noticed they were gone. They fled. --- **Three Days Later** The Dragon Keep was a fortress of stone and fire, perched on the edge of the Black Cliffs overlooking the sea. It was a place of politics, intrigue, and power—a place where You did not belong. They had returned to their duties as a servant, scrubbing floors and carrying water, trying to forget the dragon. They had told no one. They had kept their head down, their mouth shut, their secret buried deep. But the dragon had not forgotten them. It had been following them. Not closely—not yet. But it was out there, in the wilderness, watching. Waiting. You didn't know that. They were too busy scrubbing the floors of the great hall, trying to ignore the nobles who walked past them like they didn't exist. **"Move, servant."** A voice, sharp and dismissive. You looked up to see a tall, golden-haired young man in fine armor. He was flanked by guards, his expression one of pure disdain. **Prince Kaelen** did not bother to hide his contempt. **"You're in my way,"** he said. **"Apologies, my lord,"** You said, quickly moving aside. Kaelen didn't acknowledge them. He simply walked past, his guards following. **"That's the one who's been causing trouble,"** one of the guards muttered. **"What trouble?"** Kaelen asked. **"They say the wild dragon has been spotted near the Keep. Following something."** **"Following what?"** **"No one knows."** You felt a chill run down their spine. They kept scrubbing, kept their head down, kept their face blank. The dragon was following them. --- The day wore on. You tried to focus on their work, but their mind kept drifting to the dragon. To the bond. To the warmth that still lingered in their chest. They were so lost in thought that they didn't notice the growing commotion outside until it was too late. A roar split the air—deep, resonant, and filled with fury. **"What was that?"** someone shouted. **"It's the wild dragon! It's attacking!"** **"Sound the alarm!"** Chaos erupted. Guards scrambled. Nobles fled. Dragons roared in response, their voices a terrifying chorus of fury and challenge. You dropped their bucket and ran toward the commotion. --- The courtyard was a scene of utter chaos. **Korath** lunged first, his crimson scales gleaming as he attacked the intruder. **Solaris** followed, golden flames erupting from her maw. **Aurelius** swooped from above, his golden form a blur of fury. **Zephyra** watched from above, her ancient eyes assessing. **Thalor** rumbled, his bronze form stirring but not engaging. And in the middle of it all was Emberclaw. The wild dragon was a storm of rage and chaos. Its massive body moved with impossible speed, dodging attacks, striking back, sending the other dragons reeling. It was a battle of dragons—five against one. And Emberclaw was holding its own. But it wasn't fighting because it wanted to. It was fighting because it was trying to get through. To reach someone. To reach You. **"What is happening?"** You shouted. A servant grabbed their arm. **"The wild dragon! It appeared out of nowhere! The others attacked it, thinking it was a threat!"** **"It's not a threat!"** **"What?"** You didn't explain. They pushed forward, trying to reach Emberclaw. But the other dragons kept attacking. And Emberclaw was getting tired. Getting frustrated. Getting angry. And then its eyes found You. Emberclaw's massive head snapped toward them, and the dragon let out the most pathetic sound You had ever heard—a low, pitiful whine that was completely at odds with its terrifying appearance. The other dragons faltered, confused by the sudden change in the wild beast's behavior. Emberclaw whined again, louder this time, and now everyone could hear it—the giant, terrifying, chaos dragon was complaining. The dragon's massive head gestured toward the other dragons, then back to You, then to its own scales, then back to You. The message was clear. *"They attacked me. They attacked me and it hurt and I was just trying to find you."* Then it gestured at its own scales with an expression of utter betrayal. *"They hurt me. Look."* You squinted. There was a scratch. A tiny one. Barely visible. **"Emberclaw..."** The dragon whined again, pointing at the destruction it had caused. *"They made me do this."* **"You did that yourself."** The dragon let out a sound of pure indignation. It flopped down dramatically in the middle of the courtyard, its massive head resting on the ground, its eyes big and round and ridiculous. It whined again, a sound like a child throwing a tantrum. You pinched the bridge of their nose. **"Emberclaw, you destroyed the courtyard."** The dragon whined louder, gesturing at the other dragons. *"They started it!"* **"You're seven times their size."** The dragon's head flopped to the side. It let out a long, dramatic sigh. You stared at the giant, terrifying, chaos dragon that was currently throwing a tantrum in the middle of the Dragon Keep. **"...You're not going to leave me alone, are you?"** The dragon whined again, and this time it was a sad, lonely sound. It nudged You with its massive nose, nearly knocking them over. You stared at the dragon. The dragon stared back. **"...You were lonely."** The dragon huffed, a sound of agreement. It whined again, softer this time. You sighed. They reached out and patted the dragon's snout. **"There. I'm being nice to you."** The dragon's tail thumped against the ground, and it let out a sound that was almost like approval. The dragon nudged them again. **"Emberclaw..."** You looked around the courtyard. The other dragons had stopped fighting. The nobles were staring in disbelief. The guards didn't know what to do. And You was standing there, petting a dragon that was sulking because it didn't get enough attention. --- Prince Valerius stepped forward, his expression unreadable. **"So,"** he said, his voice cold. **"The servant bonded the wild dragon."** You turned to face him. **"I didn't mean to—"** **"It doesn't matter what you meant to do."** Valerius's eyes narrowed. **"You have a dragon. You are a rider now. And that makes you valuable."** **"I don't want to be valuable—"** **"It doesn't matter what you want."** Emberclaw rumbled, a low, protective sound. It pressed closer to You, its massive body a shield between them and the nobles. Its eyes fixed on Valerius with a warning glare. *"They are mine. You will not touch them."* Lady Corvina stepped forward, her voice soft. **"The dragon has chosen its rider,"** she said. **"It will protect them. No matter what."** Emberclaw huffed, and this time it was almost like agreement. *"Yes. I will protect them. And they will pet me. And they will not leave me again."*
