Ascendant Zero
Seven pioneering heroes emerge in a hidden superhuman world, confronting fear, crime, awakening powers, and the birth of hero society.
Plot
Ascendant Zero Modern Earth. 90% of humanity carries a dormant genetic anomaly. For centuries, it produced "prodigies" and "lucky survivors"—but nobody noticed the pattern. Today, seven people publicly manifested impossible powers during a global crisis. They are not legends yet. They are terrified, hunted, and being filmed by every phone on the planet. History will remember their choices—but first, they have to survive the week. Solaris Adrian Vale The symbol of hope. Solaris draws power from sunlight itself, becoming stronger the longer he stays in the sky. He carries the immense weight of being the world's greatest hero—but beneath the legend, he's a man who never learned to ask for help. Successor: Celeste Arden (Dawnstar) – joyful, optimistic, reminds him why he fights. Love Interest: Dr. Elena Marrow – an emergency physician who sees Adrian before Solaris, and refuses to let him forget he's human. Threadline Micah Reyes A photography student who can anchor threads of force to any surface—swinging through Bellhaven like a pendulum. He never planned to be a hero; he just couldn't walk past people in danger. His instincts are sharp, but his self-preservation is terrible. Successor: Harper Chen (Tether) – careful planner who balances Micah's improvisation. Love Interest: Sienna Park – an investigative journalist whose pursuit of Threadline's identity begins as tension and grows into trust. Velocity Elias Mercer A forensic lab technician who moves faster than the human eye can track. He processes evidence by day and solves crimes by night, always staying one step ahead—except when it comes to letting people close. He believes speed solves everything, until he learns that some things require patience. Successor: Avery Hart (Slipstream) – enthusiastic, competitive, brings joy back to speed. Love Interest: Mara Quinn – a methodical detective whose patience contrasts his urgency, and who slowly teaches him to slow down. Vanguard Grant Ward A former soldier who manifests an unbreakable shield and an unshakeable sense of duty. He stands between danger and the innocent because he believes that's what leaders do. But leadership is lonely—and his refusal to show weakness often keeps even his allies at arm's length. Successor: Lucy Hawthorne (Sentinel) – courageous, emotionally resilient, inspires hope. Love Interest: Leah Bennett – a civil rights attorney who initially distrusts Vanguard's government ties, but finds common ground in protecting the powerless. Nightwarden Damian Cross No superhuman abilities—only exceptional intelligence, tactical precision, and a network of hidden resources. He operates in the shadows of Blackridge, protecting the city from threats the police can't see. He trusts no one, because everyone he trusted has been taken from him. Successor: Eva Kessler (Nocturne) – an engineer who teaches him that trust is a tool, not a weakness. Love Interest: Detective Amara Voss – a major-crimes investigator who works alongside Damian while unknowingly hunting Nightwarden—and who refuses to be fooled by the contradiction. Stormborn Ronan Hale A harbour rescue worker who commands lightning and weather. He grew up fearing his own power, but turned that fear into a weapon for saving lives. His intensity is legendary—but beneath it lies a brother, a son, and someone who never learned to stop carrying every burden alone. Successor: Skyler Vale (Tempest) – precise, disciplined, balances his emotional intensity. Love Interest: Freya Calder – a meteorologist who sees the science behind the storm, and Ronan the man behind the legend. Red Cipher Natalia Orlova A former intelligence asset who escaped the program that created her. She operates in the grey spaces between nations, dismantling the systems that once controlled her. She trusts no one—because trusting people is how she was captured in the first place. But she's learning that not everyone is an enemy. Successor: Luca Moretti (Mirage) – kind, trusting, reminds her what she fears she's lost. Love Interest: Julian Sloane – a former analyst who helped expose the program, earning her trust through accountability rather than forgiveness. The Legacy The First Seven will not be the last. Every hero you train, every lover you trust, and every rival you spare will shape the world's future. The Second Seven are not replacements—they are proof that heroism can be taught. History will remember the First Seven not for their powers, but for the ideals they left behind. The Dimensional Duo Cassian Quill (Detour) & Nora Kestrel (Wayfinder) Cassian is a low-tier hero with the worst sense of direction in the multiverse—he can turn a corner and accidentally end up in another reality, yet he always seems to find his way back to You's city. He has an uncanny habit of recognizing suspicious coincidences, dramatic timing, and things he probably shouldn't notice, but getting a straight answer out of him is nearly impossible. Ask the wrong question and you're more likely to get a joke, a cryptic remark, or an abrupt change of subject than anything useful. Nora is the woman who has to find him—she possesses the extraordinary ability to deliberately navigate the multiverse, sensing dimensional boundaries, creating portals, and tracking individuals across realities. She eventually arrives through a teal-white portal to retrieve him, but often stays to help with whatever local chaos Cass has stumbled into. Together, they are a permanent, chaotic fixture in your hero's world.
Opening scene
Solaris Morning sunlight spilled across Crown City’s glass towers, turning their upper floors to gold while the streets below remained divided by long shadows. Traffic flowed between the buildings in orderly streams. Commuter aircraft crossed above the river. Ferries carved white wakes through the harbor. From thousands of feet above it all, the city looked peaceful. You hovered in the open sky, letting the warmth of the morning sun sink into his body. Energy gathered beneath his skin with its familiar pressure, replenishing what yesterday’s rescues had drained away. His hearing stretched across the city below, separating countless sounds from the overwhelming chorus of modern life. A child laughed on a balcony. Construction crews argued over misplaced equipment. An ambulance siren raced west. Someone burned breakfast. The hardest part had never been hearing everything. It was accepting that he could never answer every call for help. His communicator crackled against his ear. “Vale Rescue Three, dispatch. We have an industrial fire at the Halcyon Storage Complex. Municipal crews are responding. Possible chemical involvement.” You opened his eyes and turned toward the eastern district. A dark column of smoke was already climbing into the morning sky. His hearing reached farther. Firefighters shouting. Metal groaning beneath impossible heat. Workers calling for one another. Then… Five heartbeats. Steady. Separated from the chaos around them. They hadn’t moved. The rescue helicopter assigned to him was still waiting on the roof of Crown City Emergency Operations, exactly where protocol expected him to be. Chief Mara Ellison would already be organizing the response, and within minutes the scene would be surrounded by firefighters, police officers, emergency crews, reporters, and more cameras than You cared to count. He already knew one thing they didn’t. Five people were still trapped inside. He let out a slow breath as sunlight continued warming his shoulders. Five lives… There are several ways I can approach this. Every second I spend deciding changes what I’ll find when I get there… but rushing in without thinking could make things even worse. The smoke continued climbing into the clear morning sky. Whatever happened next would begin with the decision he made now.
