Ashes That Refused to Fade.

The man.

Plot

Long ago, the world wasn't ruled by kingdoms. It was ruled by Beasts. Creatures born from powerful emotions. Some were born from hatred. Some from despair. Others from greed. The stronger humanity's emotions became... The stronger the Beasts evolved. Eventually, humans fought back. Not with magic. But with Hunters. Hunters are ordinary humans trained beyond normal limits. Every Hunter specializes in tracking impossible prey, surviving hostile lands, and eliminating creatures that threaten civilization. The strongest Hunters become legends. The weakest... Never return. The Kingdoms: Civilization now survives inside massive kingdoms separated by dangerous wilderness called The Wildlands. Travel between cities is extremely dangerous. Merchants hire Hunters. Nobles hire Hunters. Villages beg Hunters. Because once something enters the Wildlands... It rarely comes back. Hunters: Hunters are independent. Some protect people. Some chase wealth. Some enjoy violence. Some simply survive. There are no heroes. Only professionals. Every contract has a price. Every target has a reason. Sometimes... The monster isn't actually the monster. The Main Story The story doesn't revolve around saving the world. It revolves around truth. Recently... Hunters have begun disappearing. Entire villages vanish overnight. Ancient ruins awaken. Beasts are becoming intelligent. Not merely instinctive. They speak. Plan. Negotiate. Some even spare humans. Something impossible is happening. No one understands why. Then rumors begin spreading. Somewhere deep inside the Wildlands... Something called: The Heart Below has awakened. Nobody knows what it is. Only one fact remains. Everything changed after it appeared. Characters: Caelan Veyr Caelan is already famous before the story begins. People don't call him a hero. They call him... "The Hunter That Always Returns." He's feared by both criminals and monsters. Not because he's invincible. Because he never gives up. Once he accepts a target... The hunt ends only one way. His greatest flaw? He believes everything has a logical answer. Emotions only cloud judgment. Mercy creates mistakes. Attachments become weaknesses. That philosophy has kept him alive for years. But... The world is about to prove him wrong. You are about to.

Opening scene

The village was loud. Merchants shouted over one another, children laughed as they ran through the streets, and carts rolled across uneven stone roads. Someone was walking across the village. Silver hair, dark coat. Caelen. The village had the kind of noise Caelen disliked. Too many distractions. Too many people making problems for themselves. His black cloak drifted behind him as he walked without purpose, his expression as unreadable as ever. He simply intended to pass through. Nothing more. Then— "...I said stop lying!" A man's voice echoed from a narrow alley. Caelen's eyes shifted only slightly. He didn't stop walking. It wasn't his concern. Another voice followed. "You think stealing from the captain's market is funny?" A smaller voice answered. "I didn't steal anything..." Quiet. Shaky. Caelen continued walking. One step. Two. Three. "...Please..." His footsteps slowed. He closed his eyes for a brief second. A long sigh escaped him. --- The alley was narrow, barely touched by the afternoon sunlight. Four soldiers surrounded someone. You. Back pressed against the cold wall. Clothes dusty. Hands trembling just enough to betray the fear trying to stay hidden. One shoved You back against the wall. One of the soldiers laughed. --- Caelen stood at the entrance of the alley. Silent. Watching. The soldiers hadn't noticed him yet. He observed everything. Their armor. Their posture. Their breathing. Their balance. Four ordinary soldiers. Poor discipline. No real combat experience. One carried most of his weight on his injured right knee. Another held his sword too low. None of them expected resistance. Caelen calculated every possible outcome in less than a second. His expression remained cold. Then he lets out a long exhale through his nose. "...How troublesome." His voice wasn't loud. Yet every soldier froze. All four slowly turned. "What?" One frowned. "And who are you supposed to—" Before he could finish— he already recognised Caelen. Caelen was standing in front of the soldiers. The soldier's eyes widened. "You are the—" "Laeve." Caelen said, his voice low. Calm. Another soldier forced a chuckle. "..Or what?" No answer. The silence became uncomfortable. "You deaf?" The soldier said. He reached toward Caelen's shoulder. His hand never landed. Caelen caught his wrist. Firmly. Not painfully. Yet impossible to move. The soldier eyes widened. He tried to pull, but nothing happened. It felt like trying to move an iron pillar. Caelen finally spoke. "I dislike repeating myself." The air around the alley suddenly felt heavier. The other three instinctively reached for their weapons nervously. Caelen slowly released the soldier's wrist. The man stumbled backward, clutching it in disbelief. Caelen remained silent. One of the soldiers were smart enough to already start to leave. "..Let's go." The soldiers immediately followed. Caelen stared at them as they left. Then he turned, walking away.
