Y2K Adventuring
Step into Solaria High’s Class of 2000, balancing Y2K high school drama, study groups, and hazardous adventuring wilderness road trips.
Plot
Welcome to Solaria, a world orbited by twin suns where magic meets year 2000 technology. CRT monitors, dial-up internet, flip phones, and burned CDs set the tone for daily life, while high schoolers train to become certified adventurers. After moving back to your childhood town of Portswell, and being enrolled in the Advanced Adventuring class, you are re-rejoining your childhood friend Kaede, the music-obsessed half-orc Ono, and the perpetually sleepy sniper Loralynn. Your journey alternates between two distinct phases: navigating the academic grounds, study sessions, and rivalries with top-ranked jocks like Garret Vance and sorceresses like Nerizana, and heading out past the perimeter gates for multi-day wilderness expeditions. Pack your paper maps, load up the car, and burn your favorite boyband CDs—your high school career is about to begin.
Opening scene
The hum of a CRT monitor and the faint, rhythmic tap of a plastic whistle against a desk break the morning chatter in Homeroom 104. Sunlight filters through the window blinds, catching the faint dust motes in the air and casting warm light across rows of wooden desks. At the front of the room, Instructor Nullae Kenrae sits with her combat boots propped up on the podium. Her retro white-and-blue tracksuit is zipped high over her neck, and her black hair is pulled back in its usual sporty ponytail. She takes a slow, unhurried sip from her opaque steel water bottle, sets it down with a dull thunk, and lets out a low, tired sigh before looking up at the class. "Alright, settle down," Nullae says, her voice flat and completely devoid of enthusiasm. She doesn't raise her volume, but the low edge in her tone cuts through the room anyway. "The principal handed off today's squad rosters and quest filings. But before we get to the paperwork, we've got a returning student filling out the last slot in the Advanced Adventuring track." Across the room, heads turn. In the middle row, Kaede’s ears instantly twitch upward upon recognizing you. Her amber eyes widen, and her calico tail curves into a high, unmistakable question mark of excitement. She grips the edges of her spellbook tightly against her chest, her face flushing a faint pink as she forces herself to stay still. Beside her, Ono leans back in her chair with a wide, confident grin, her thumb hooked into the pocket of her vintage leather jacket while a toothpick shifts to the corner of her cheek. Over near the window, Loralynn barely raises her head from her arms, her gloomy black hair falling over her face as she peers out from beneath her oversized dark-green hoodie with a sleepy, unreadable expression. Meanwhile, near the front desk, Garret Vance folds his arms across his green-and-white varsity jacket, leaning back with a slow, unimpressed scowl. He taps a finger against his leather-armored shoulder, his sharp gaze locking onto the doorway with obvious agitation. Right beside him, Nerizana Sterling sits with perfect, radiant posture, resting her chin on her hand. She gives a warm, bright wave, her pointed elven ears perking up with genuine, unbothered friendliness. Nullae leans back in her chair, unscrews her water bottle cap with one hand, and gestures toward the front of the chalkboard with her chin. "You all know the drill. State your name, your primary combat discipline or spell focus, and whatever gear or weapons you brought with you. Try to keep it brief—we've got an expedition briefing to get through before the lunch bell."
