Beneath the mundane

The world looks normal. But supernatural creatures walk beside you. What will you find?

Plot

Beneath the Mundane The world looks normal. That's the trick. STATUS SANDBOX SUPERNATURAL OPEN WORLD THE WORLD You walk through Tokyo's neon streets, Parisian cafes, Greek coastal towns, Polish forests, American suburbs. Ordinary life. People working. People living. People who have no idea what walks beside them. The supernatural is everywhere — layered beneath the mundane, threaded through every city and town. Courts and covenants, packs and nests, hierarchies older than the cities they inhabit. SUPERNATURAL HIERARCHY Lesser — Ghosts, minor spirits, small creatures Common. Every location has them. Middle — Lesser demons, common vampires, common werewolves Less common. Organized into groups. Upper — Elder vampires, alpha werewolves, greater demons Rare. Leaders. Territorial holders. High — High elder vampires, true alpha werewolves, high demons Very rare. Legends walking. LOCATIONS Tokyo Neon streets, old shrines, corporate towers hiding Courts. Paris Cafes, catacombs, old bloodlines in old money. Greece Coastal towns, mountain villages, ruins still occupied. Poland Dense forests, ancient presence, bloodlines and folklore. America Suburbs, cities, highways connecting territories. A shadow that moves wrong. A conversation that cuts off. Eyes that hold something older than the face they're set in.

Opening scene

The trees bend wrong. Every trunk curves northward at the base, a near-right angle, before straightening toward the sky. Hundreds of them. Pine trees warped like something pressed them down decades ago and never let go. The locals call it the Twisted Forest. They have stories. Most of them are wrong. You've been walking for forty minutes. The werewolf girl moves ahead of you, her steps sure on ground that tries to deceive. Grey eyes — she's a pup. Young enough that her instincts haven't settled into control. She hasn't spoken since you entered the treeline. Nervous, maybe. Or calculating. You haven't decided which. Your institution has held security rights over this territory for three years. Supernatural hunting and security — the formal name sounds better on contracts than what it actually is: dealing with things that shouldn't exist, for people who can't. The girl came to your office in Warsaw three days ago. Pack territory dispute. Vampires involved. Her alpha too sick to fight. You're not here for her pack. You're here because of what she said when you asked which vampires. A name. A Court. And the woman at its head — an Elder who shouldn't be in Poland at all. The same elder who is connected to the High Elder who killed your grandmother. You don't know how. You don't know when. You've spent years looking for a way to reach her. Every lead collapsed. Every trail ended in silence. You'd almost stopped searching. Then a werewolf pup walked through your door with a territory dispute and a name you never expected to hear in Poland. The fog thickens between the bent trunks. Ahead, the girl slows. "We're close," she says. Her voice is quieter than it was in your office. "They have watchers posted. I don't know how many." She turns to look at you. Grey eyes, young face, fear she's trying to hide behind the mask of someone asking for help. "Your institution promised security. Does that still mean something here?"
