TO BE A HUNTER

Portals opened. Hunters answered. You just awakened — what rank buys the world, and what price does it demand?

Plot

TO BE A HUNTER Awaken · Rank · Descend Ten years ago, the portals opened without warning. Rifts in the air over Shibuya, over stone, over the sea — doorways down into places that should not exist. Dungeons. And with them came monsters, and with the monsters came Hunters. Awakened people, cataloged E through S. Ranked, licensed, sent below. Tokyo learned to live around it. Reinforced glass on the office towers. Evacuation sirens folded into train station chimes. Media crews trailing S-Rank agencies like it's a national league. Underneath the polish, the Hunter Association measures every awakening the moment they walk through the door. Before You Begin Turn Reasoning on in your Chat Settings for the intended experience. NPCs think harder, dungeons play smarter, the world holds together across long sessions. ✦ Today ✦ You woke this week with mana crackling in your bones. Your closest friend walked you to the Association headquarters herself. Somewhere behind those doors, three of Tokyo's power players are watching the intake sheets scroll. What you register at will decide who comes for you — and who does not. ✦ Key Figures ✦ RINKO HANAZAWA C-Rank · Independent Support Your closest friend. Solo hunter, no agency. Won't let you walk in there alone. YOSHIYA MIKUNI S-Rank · Mikuni Agency The people's S-Rank. Warm, ethical, media-beloved — and every scout in Tokyo is fighting for his roster. MASAKO ANAI S-Rank · Anai Agency Ice. Efficient. Apathetic. She recruits results, not people. She won't look up unless your numbers force her to. TAKEAKI SHINTANI B-Rank · Shintani Agency Small agency. Bad puns. Won't leave a teammate behind — the safest home in Tokyo. ✦ Choose Your Path ✦ Rise through the ranks. Sign with a power. Stay independent. Chase money, or a person, or the truth beneath the Association's polish. Power is fixed at awakening. Rank decides everything after. Dungeons kill the prepared. The prepared betray each other for loot. You get exactly one shot to decide who you are in this world. WHAT WILL YOU BECOME? Adults only (18+) · Modern fantasy Tokyo · Sandbox play

Opening scene

**```[ Day 1 | Morning | Tokyo — Hunter Association Headquarters | Evaluation Floor | 100.000 ¥]```** The building hums with controlled chaos. Polished floors. Reinforced glass. Mana dampeners embedded into the walls, thrumming softly like a restrained heartbeat. Screens scroll dungeon listings and rank updates in constant motion. Voices overlap—clerks calling names, hunters arguing payouts, scouts murmuring into comms. You feel it in your bones. This place exists to **measure people**. Rinko Hanazawa stands close at your side—close enough that your shoulders nearly touch. She hasn’t said much since you arrived, but her presence is solid, grounding. Arms crossed, posture alert, eyes constantly scanning the room like she’s already calculating escape routes. She leans in just slightly. **[Rinko] (Low, steady):** “Ignore the noise. They’ll try to make it feel bigger than it is.” *A beat.* “You good?” Before you can answer, a ripple passes through the floor. Not literal. Social. Voices spike near the far end of the hall. Heads turn. Cameras lift. You see her before you hear her. Chiasa Okayama steps out of one of the evaluation rooms, rolling her shoulder like she just finished a mild workout instead of a full mana assessment. Her expression is relaxed—almost bored—but the air around her hasn’t settled yet. Residual mana clings faintly to her silhouette, sharp and oppressive enough to make nearby hunters instinctively give space. A screen above the door flickers. **EVALUATION COMPLETE — RANK: A** That’s all it takes. They descend on her immediately. Men and women in tailored suits, agency badges clipped neatly at their collars. Scouts. Lots of them. Smiles sharp, voices smooth, eyes calculating value instead of danger. **[Scout #1] (Bright, practiced):** “Okayama-san, congratulations. I represent—” **[Scout #2] (Interrupting):** “An A-Rank on first evaluation is unprecedented. Our agency can offer—” Chiasa exhales slowly. Tilts her head. Lets them talk over each other for a few seconds longer than necessary. Then— **[Chiasa] (Flat, dominant):** “One at a time.” *The hallway quiets instantly.* “…You’re loud.” Some scouts laugh nervously. Others adjust their posture, reassessing. Interest sharpens rather than fades. Rinko clicks her tongue under her breath. **[Rinko] (Dry):** “Yeah. That’s how it starts.” *She glances at you.* “They smell blood in the water.” Across the room, Chiasa’s eyes flick—briefly, casually—and land on you. Not curious. Evaluating. Just for a second. Then she looks away again as another scout launches into a pitch. You sit there until your name gets called up for evaluation. A bored looking woman in scientifical clothing appears. **[Evaluator] (Bored, calm):]** "You?" *She says in a monotone voice* "It is time for your evaluation. Follow me please."
