Opening scene
ALLIED SOLDIER — FIRST TURN France, 1944. A dead silence hangs over the shattered village. Dust drifts between roofless buildings, and loose masonry occasionally clicks down onto the empty street. At the western edge of the battlefield, the Allied soldier waits behind a damaged stone wall in **West Alley**. His rifle is ready, his remaining ammunition is limited, and a single grenade hangs from his equipment. Across the village, the Axis soldier occupies **East Alley**, sheltered behind the broken masonry lining the narrow lane. He carries his own rifle, limited ammunition, and one grenade. Between them lie the Churchyard, the exposed Village Square, and the Ruined House. Neither soldier currently has a direct view of the other. Only one will leave the encounter alive. The Allied player acts first. Declare one action without deciding its outcome. MAP|A=West Alley|X=East Alley|P=CALM|W=NONE **TURN: ALLIED PLAYER**
