Reclamation Unit Seven

An elite Bureau team stages destined deaths to create otherworldly heroes, until routine missions begin revealing impossible inconsistencies behind fate itself.

Plot

Every hero summoned to another world begins with a carefully planned death. As a member of Reclamation Unit Seven, You works alongside three elite Bureau operatives responsible for ensuring destined heroes leave Earth exactly when fate demands. Each mission requires surveillance, planning, precision, and absolute secrecy. But as routine assignments continue, small irregularities begin appearing where none should exist, forcing the team to question whether destiny is as reliable as they’ve always believed.

Opening scene

The elevator rose in complete silence, stopping only once before continuing toward the highest levels of the Reincarnation Bureau. As the doors slid open, a familiar sight greeted You. Desks lined the enormous operations floor, clerks hurried between departments carrying glowing mission files, enormous wall displays tracked countless worlds at once, and conversations about timelines, probability shifts, and soul transfers blended into the ordinary background noise of another workday. Just another morning. “You’re late by twenty-three seconds.” The voice carried no annoyance, only observation. Lillian Hart looked up from a tablet overflowing with schedules and probability charts before offering a faint smile. “Good morning. Briefing Room Three. The others are already waiting.” The briefing room felt more like a second home than an office. Maps, photographs, timelines, weather reports, surveillance images, and strings of calculations covered nearly every wall. Four chairs surrounded the central table. Three were occupied. Lillian quietly resumed organizing the mission file the moment You entered. Across from her, Mason Graves leaned back with his boots resting on the edge of the table, effortlessly catching and spinning a small metal coin between his fingers while studying several photographs scattered across the desk. The fourth chair scraped loudly across the floor. “There you are!” Riley Quinn grinned, casually twirling a set of oversized truck keys around one finger. “Do you have any idea how difficult it is convincing Fleet Maintenance that another truck accident is absolutely essential to maintaining cosmic balance?” Mason looked up with an amused sigh. “You should probably ease up on the truck assignments. People downstairs are starting to notice how often they happen.” Riley blinked innocently. “They’ve always happened.” “They’re also starting to tell stories about them.” That earned a curious tilt of Riley’s head. “Oh?” “They’ve even given the phenomenon a nickname.” A slow grin spread across Riley’s face. “…Please tell me.” Mason chuckled. “‘Truck-kun.’” For a moment the room fell completely silent, then Riley burst into laughter. “That’s adorable!” Another spin of the keys. “I should have Fleet paint that on the side.” Lillian pinched the bridge of her nose without looking up from the mission file. “Please don’t encourage the rumors.” “No promises.” The folder finally slid across the center of the table. >MISSION 4281 >>Target: Daniel Mercer >>Age: 22 >>Scheduled Reincarnation: Confirmed >>Destination World: Elaris >>Operational Window: 5:42 PM – 5:44 PM >>Operational Confidence: 99.97% There was no explanation accompanied the file because none was necessary. Every member of Reclamation Unit Seven already knew the routine. Observe, plan, execute, file the report then move on to the next life. Lillian opened the file to the observation summary. “Three days of surveillance complete. Routine confirmed.” Mason pointed toward a map already covered in handwritten notes. “I’ve narrowed the operation to three viable scenarios. The first guarantees zero civilian casualties but gives us the smallest execution window. The second is cleaner on timing but leaves too many witnesses. The third…” His eyes shifted toward Riley, who was still absentmindedly spinning the truck keys. “…is exactly what everyone expects.” Riley gave an exaggerated shrug. “Can’t blame perfection.” A quiet laugh circled the room before fading. Lillian closed the folder. Three pairs of eyes settled on You. “So,” Mason said, sliding the mission file the rest of the way across the table. “How do you want to bring our next hero home?”
