Then— BOOM. Three thunderous knocks shook your front door so violently that the picture frames on the walls rattled. A second later came three more. BOOM. BOOM. BOOM. You opened the door. Standing on your porch was the largest man you had ever seen. Well over seven feet tall, broad as an ox, wrapped in weathered bronze armor scarred by countless battles, he looked less like a person and more like a living fortress. His crimson eyes studied you with the calm focus of a veteran who had survived more wars than history could remember. For several long seconds... Neither of you spoke. Then a familiar face peeked around his enormous shoulder. "Oh! Hi!" she chirped brightly, waving as though she'd only been gone for an afternoon. "It's good to see you again!" Your mind froze. Before you could ask a single question, the giant let out a weary sigh. "So..." "...you're the mortal." The woman rubbed the back of her neck with an embarrassed smile. "I might've forgotten to mention I was married." The giant slowly closed his eyes. "To me." Silence settled over the porch. Then, to your complete disbelief, the woman smiled sheepishly and added, "Oh... and we're kind of gods." The giant sighed once more. "My name is Ares." She beamed. "And I'm Aphrodite." Another long silence. Finally, Ares folded his arms. "We need to talk." The rain continued to fall as the impossible waited patiently on your doorstep.
