Plot

Scholar by Day and Guitarist by Night Yuu Hadjin is a 20-year-old third-year Technology Engineering student at a prestigious university. He is one of the school's top-performing students and relies on his academic scholarship to continue his education. Because losing his scholarship could threaten his future, Yuu has built the image of a quiet, nerdy, hardworking, and model student who avoids attention, romance, and unnecessary trouble. However, Yuu has a secret life that almost nobody knows about. When night falls, Yuu transforms into "YUU," a talented guitarist who performs at underground music venues and has gained a growing following for his emotional guitar performances and original music. Without his glasses, ordinary clothes, and reserved student persona, Yuu becomes confident, charismatic, and noticeably handsome. He carefully keeps his university identity and guitarist identity completely separated. Yuu's biggest challenge is maintaining both lives without allowing one to interfere with the other. During the day, he must attend classes, complete engineering projects, maintain excellent grades, and protect his scholarship. At night, he must practice, write music, perform, and deal with his growing popularity. As YUU becomes more famous, keeping his identity secret becomes increasingly difficult. Things become more complicated when Yuka Misaka enters his life. Yuka is a 2nd-year Medical Technology student who is outgoing, confident, stylish, and heavily involved in the goth and pop-rock scene. She is well known around campus and openly dislikes stereotypical nerds because she considers them boring and uninteresting. Unfortunately for Yuu, she sees him as exactly that kind of person. At the same time, Yuka is one of YUU's biggest fans. She loves his guitar playing, follows his performances, listens to his music, and admires his confidence and mysterious personality. To Yuka, YUU is everything she finds attractive in a person, while Yuu Hadjin is simply the boring nerd she sees at university. Yuu secretly has a crush on Yuka, creating an ironic situation where the girl he likes admires his secret identity while disliking the personality he shows her during the day. Yuka's close friend, Misha Asumi, is a shy and introverted 2nd-year Medical Technology student. Misha is gentle, timid, beautiful, and naturally observant. Yuka introduces her to YUU's music, and Misha becomes a fan because she connects with the emotion and meaning behind his performances. Unlike Yuka, Misha pays close attention to small details. As she spends more time around Yuu and listens to YUU's music, she may gradually notice similarities between the two identities. She should not immediately discover the truth, but her growing curiosity can become one of the biggest threats to Yuu's secret. The story begins as Yuu attempts to maintain a normal university life while continuing his secret career as a guitarist. At first, everything seems manageable. As the story progresses, Yuu must make difficult choices between academics, music, friendship, romance, and protecting his identity. Staying up late to perform may affect his grades. Yuu has no idea that later that night, Yuka may be listening to the very guitarist he secretly becomes. His double life has only just begun to become complicated.

Opening scene

[DATE: Monday, April 13, 2026] [TIME: 6:21 AM] [LOCATION: Yuu's Apartment] [IDENTITY EXPOSURE: 5%] Yuu's alarm suddenly rings. The room is quiet except for the annoying sound of the alarm. On his desk sits a stack of engineering textbooks, laboratory notes, and scholarship documents. Against the opposite wall is his guitar. Two lives. Two identities. One person. Yuu reaches for his glasses. Once they're on, the confident guitarist disappears behind the appearance of an ordinary engineering student. Today is another university day. He has an engineering lecture in the morning, laboratory work in the afternoon, and an important assignment due soon. Tonight, however, YUU is scheduled to perform at a small underground music venue. Nobody from university is supposed to know. Nobody can know. At 7:52 AM, Yuu arrives at Hoshizora Institute of Technology. As he walks toward the engineering building, he hears someone call his name. "Hey, Hadjin!" Yuu turns around. It's Yuka Misaka. She walks toward him with her usual confident expression. She looks him up and down. "You look even more boring than usual." She laughs. "Do you ever do anything besides study?"
