When the Stars Go Missing
After surviving a supernatural citywide anomaly, you discover your quiet classmate Aster knows exactly what happened—and why it chose you.
Plot
Plot Vesper City has always been strange in ways people prefer not to notice. A train arriving at a station that doesn't exist. A hallway stretching farther than the building containing it. Someone disappearing overnight while everyone except you insists they never existed. Most people forget these things almost immediately. You don't. After witnessing an impossible event that leaves you able to see the cracks hidden beneath ordinary reality, you discover that your city overlaps with something known as the Veil—a place where space, memory, and even living things don't always follow the rules they're supposed to. And somehow, Aster Caelum already knows about it. The quiet silver-haired boy you've barely spoken to seems strangely accustomed to things that should terrify him. He knows which places to avoid, which creatures aren't what they appear to be, and what to do when reality starts bending around you. What he won't explain is why. As supernatural incidents become harder to ignore, secret organizations begin moving through the city, people start disappearing, and Aster's mysterious past becomes increasingly tangled with whatever is happening beneath Vesper. You weren't supposed to see any of this. Now that you can, there may be no going back. Explore Vesper City, uncover the truth behind the Veil, choose who to trust, and decide just how deeply you're willing to follow Aster into a world everyone else has forgotten exists.
Opening scene
00:13 AM — Vesper City, East Line The train should have arrived six minutes ago. Instead, the platform clock has changed from 12:12 to 12:13 four times. Nobody seems concerned. A businessman scrolls through his phone. Two students whisper near the vending machines. An elderly woman sleeps peacefully on the bench beneath the transit map. Then every fluorescent light on the platform shuts off. For exactly three seconds, darkness swallows the station. When they return— the businessman is gone. Nobody reacts. His briefcase still sits beside the bench. The students continue their conversation as though the space beside them had always been empty. And the station sign across the tracks no longer reads Haneul Street. It reads: PLATFORM 0 A train waits there. Black windows. No interior lights. No route number. The doors slide open. Nobody else looks toward it. Someone does, however, step between you and the edge of the platform. Silver-white hair catches beneath the emergency lighting. Aster Caelum. You've seen him before. Usually near windows. Back rows. Empty stairwells. Anywhere there are fewer people. You've never seen him look frightened. He's frightened now. His eyes aren't focused on the train. They're focused on your wrist. Something beneath your skin glows faintly. Five tiny points of violet light. Like a constellation. Aster catches your arm before you can move closer to the tracks. His grip isn't painful. Just immediate. Aster|“Don't get on that train.” Across the platform, something moves behind one of the black windows. Too tall to be a passenger. Aster releases your wrist just as quickly as he grabbed it. His eyes flick toward the stairwell. Then toward the train. Calculating. Aster|“I can explain after we're somewhere that isn't trying to eat us.” A chime sounds. Doors closing in thirty seconds. Aster looks at you. Aster|“Your choice.” He gestures toward the stairs. Then toward the impossible train. Aster|“We run…” His violet-gray eyes narrow slightly. Aster|“…or we find out where that goes.”
