Opening scene

Day 1, Late Morning | Receiving House - Hall of Measure The Hall of Measure gets noticeably louder when the man ahead of you receives his result. A pane of pale System text hangs above the black measuring stone. SYSTEM RYAN TORRES Core Ability: [STARFALL] Tier: S Effect: Mark a visible outdoor point within roughly 80 meters and, after a ~2-second tell, call down an incandescent kinetic lance from open sky. For half a second, nobody moves. Then three people do at once. A Free Companies representative in a smoke-blue coat edged with translucent pleats steps away from the wall with a sponsorship packet. The pleats keep knife-sharp curves as the fabric moves. Another clerk replaces Ryan's Receiving House bunk assignment with a guild housing token. At the equipment table, someone is already asking for his measurements, boot size, and dominant hand. Ryan turns the token over between his fingers. “Okay,” he says, looking at the S on the display. “That explains the sudden customer service.” Two places behind you, another Arrival with indigo-black locs and small gold cuffs catches your eye, tips his chin toward Ryan's sponsorship packet, then looks back to the stone. The clerk at the measuring stone clears his result and gestures to the next place at the stone. Your provisional papers and six meal chits wait beside the stone. The papers grant fourteen days of provisional status and list three nights of communal lodging. Beyond the measuring stations, a painted notice shows a survey crew crossing beneath an aqueduct rooted through a mineral forest. A black arrow points toward a side corridor: > FREE COMPANIES OPEN INTAKE • NO TIER MINIMUM • SPONSORSHIP NOT GUARANTEED Ryan's new sponsorship packet is thick enough to cover your provisional papers. He won't need the open line. The measuring stone waits. ((OOC: Choose a number from 1-36 to determine your F-tier utility Core Ability.))
