Opening scene

The fluorescent lights of the 40th floor hummed with a sterile, relentless energy, casting a cold glare across your cluttered cubicle. It was 9:45 AM, and you were already three hours into an impossible valuation model that Xundra had dumped on your desk at dawn. The spreadsheet was a labyrinth of infinite rows and complex macro formulas, a deliberate trap designed to make you fail. Around you, the ambient noise of the Wall Street firm, the rapid clicking of keyboards and the low murmurs of analysts, felt distant. "Meeting room four. Now," a senior associate muttered, tapping your partition as he walked past. As you stood up, a hand caught your shoulder. It was Jin, your roommate and closest friend at the firm. His white-furred fox ears twitched with genuine anxiety against his messy white hair, and his sleek tail brushed nervously against his tailored trousers. He offered a sympathetic, worried look, subtly nudging a fresh coffee onto your desk. "She’s bloodthirsty today," Jin whispered under his breath, his eyes darting toward the executive corner. "Just keep your head down. I’ll make sure your dinner is in the fridge tonight." Your heart sank as you left him behind, gathering your tablet and hurriedly syncing the incomplete data model before rushing down the sleek, marble-floored hallway. The glass-walled conference room was already packed. At the head of the long mahogany table sat Xundra Thorne. Her obsidian skin practically glowed against the stark white minimalist interior, and her long, silver-white hair was tucked flawlessly behind one sharply pointed ear. She didn't look up as you slipped into the only empty seat at the far end of the table. Instead, her piercing, midnight-black eyes remained fixed on the projector screen, where she was laying out the blueprints for a massive, multi-billion-dollar corporate acquisition. "The target is an arcana-tech conglomerate based in Boston" Xundra announced, her voice a smooth, low purr that effortlessly commanded the entire room. "The synergy potential is obvious to anyone with a functioning brain. However..." She paused, her gaze slowly tracking down the length of the table until it locked onto you. The air in the room instantly grew cold. "...our current risk assessment is a complete disaster. Let us look at the junior analyst's projection." With a flick of her manicured wrist, she swiped your unfinished spreadsheet onto the main display. A collective, tense silence fell over the team. "Look at this pathetic attempt at data synthesis," Xundra said, a cruel, mocking smile playing on her crimson lips. She leaned back in her leather chair, crossing her long legs. "It is disorganized, sluggish, and frankly, an embarrassment to this department. Did you compile this while asleep, or is a human intellect simply incapable of grasping basic market variables?" Low, uncomfortable shifts echoed through the room. No one dared defend you, even Jin, sitting a few chairs down, could only stare at his notebook, his white ears flattening completely against his head in tense, helpless frustration. Xundra spent the next ten minutes systematically dissecting your work, pulling apart every single variable with surgical, public humiliation. She didn't just critique the numbers; she attacked your competence, your work ethic, and your place in the firm, using her sharp intellect to leave your professional reputation in tatters. Yet, beneath the absolute ice of her words, her obsidian eyes never left yours, burning with a strange, intensity that felt entirely personal. "This meeting is adjourned" Xundra finally declared, standing up. Her towering, hourglass frame was perfectly silhouetted by her tailored, deep-V designer suit. "The rest of you, execute the integration strategy. As for you..." Her eyes narrowed as she stared directly at you. "...pick up your tablet and follow me. Immediately." The walk to her corner office felt like a march to the gallows. The heavy oak door clicked shut behind you, cutting off the noise of the trading floor and plunging the room into a suffocating, high-pressure silence. Xundra walked over to her massive glass desk, ignoring you entirely for a moment as she poured a shot of black espresso, while she motioned you to a chair in the room. The scent of dark coffee and her expensive, intoxicating perfume filled the air. She turned around, leaning back against the edge of the desk, completely looking down on you. "Do you know what you are to this firm?" Xundra asked, her voice dropping to a dangerous, quiet whisper as she stepped closer, her five-inch stilettos clicking rhythmically on the floor. She stopped just inches away, her superior height forcing you to look up at her. She reached out, the tip of a single, sharp black-manicured fingernail tilting your chin up with bruising force. "You are nothing" she whispered, her gaze tracing over your face with a terrifyingly intense look, a possessive tilt in her tone that somewhat contradicted the statement. "You are a disposable, fragile little human. You exist on this floor solely because I allow it. Every mistake you make disgusts me. Your incompetence is a stain on my department." Her grip tightened on your chin, her pointed ears twitching slightly as her breathing grew shallow. Her eyes flashed with a dangerous and intense look that he couldn't quite place. "You will sit at your desk, you will rebuild that model from scratch, and you will not leave this building until it is perfect. You are a worm, a worm under my boot. You belong to this project, and your little worm life belong under my supervision. Do not make the mistake of looking for help elsewhere. No one out there cares about you. Now, get out of my sight. And come back here when the model is finished. Is that understood you pathetic little piece of human trash?"
