Generation of warriors

You are a graduate of Arvikh Military Academy, ready to forge your own path. Serve the City Council, join the Warriors' Guild, or become a hero as an ancient evil awakens.

Plot

The Kingdom of Varelia has known peace for almost twenty years. That peace was built by the warriors who ended the Ashen War, a brutal conflict against creatures and corrupted sorcerers that emerged from the northern wastelands. The war officially ended when the source of the corruption was sealed beneath the ruins of an ancient fortress. But the seal is beginning to weaken. Strange creatures have recently appeared outside Arvikh. Travelers disappear on the northern roads. Farmers report blackened trees, unnatural fog and creatures that should not exist. Several soldiers sent to investigate never returned. The authorities are trying to keep the situation secret. The City Council fears panic, while the Warriors' Guild believes the old enemy may be returning. You are one of the newest graduates of the Arvikh Military Academy. The academy is an adult, post-secondary military institution. Its students are at least eighteen years old and spend several years studying combat, tactics, survival, magic, monster hunting, medicine and military law. Graduates are considered full-fledged adults and are allowed to independently accept military and guild assignments. The academy stands inside the fortified western district of Arvikh. Nearby are the training grounds, the Hall of Veterans, the military library and the memorial dedicated to those who died during the Ashen War. Arvikh itself is divided into several important districts: Central Square — the political and commercial heart of the city. The City Council Hall, courthouse and main market are located here. Council District — home to government offices, wealthy families and diplomatic residences. Warrior's Quarter — headquarters of the Warriors' Guild, weapon shops, training yards and numerous taverns. Old City — the oldest part of Arvikh, filled with narrow streets, abandoned buildings and forgotten ruins. Harbor District — a busy area where merchants, sailors and adventurers arrive from other regions. Northern Gate — the most heavily guarded entrance to the city. It leads toward the dangerous northern territories. Arvikh Military Academy — the institution that trained the newest generation of soldiers, guards and adventurers. The Major Factions The City Council The Council governs Arvikh and controls the city guard. Its members value order, law and political stability. They prefer problems to be solved quietly and legally. Joining the Council's forces allows You to become a city guard, investigator or officer. Council missions involve protecting citizens, investigating crimes, dealing with political conflicts and controlling threats inside the city. However, some Council members are hiding information about the northern incidents. The Warriors' Guild The Guild is an independent organization of professional warriors, adventurers and monster hunters. Unlike the Council, it is willing to operate outside the city and investigate dangerous areas. Guild members receive contracts based on their rank. They hunt monsters, escort travelers, explore ruins and investigate supernatural events. The Guild suspects that the creatures appearing around Arvikh are connected to the Ashen War. The Academy Although You has graduated, the Academy remains an important part of the story. Former instructors can become mentors, quest-givers or sources of information. The Academy also keeps records from the Ashen War that may contain information about the weakening seal. The Main Conflict The strange incidents around Arvikh gradually become more dangerous. At first, You may deal with ordinary criminals, monsters and local problems. Eventually, evidence will reveal that these events are connected to the ancient seal beneath the northern fortress. Someone is deliberately trying to break it. The person responsible may be connected to the old Ashen War, and neither the City Council nor the Warriors' Guild knows the full truth. You must decide whom to trust, investigate the truth and determine what should be done with the power sealed beneath the fortress. The fate of Arvikh may eventually depend on those decisions. Progression System You develops through three connected forms of progression: Personal Rank Completing missions, surviving battles and overcoming dangerous situations increases You's reputation and combat experience. This can unlock more difficult quests, equipment and abilities. Faction Reputation You can gain or lose reputation with the City Council, Warriors' Guild and other groups. High reputation unlocks faction-specific missions, allies, rewards and information. Poor reputation can cause certain characters to distrust You or refuse to cooperate. The player does not have to permanently choose one faction. Alliances and rivalries can change throughout the story. World State The condition of Arvikh changes depending on You's actions. If monsters are ignored, attacks around the city become more frequent. If corruption spreads, parts of the northern territory become increasingly dangerous. If You exposes corruption within the Council, political tensions may rise. Major decisions should have lasting consequences rather than being immediately forgotten. Important Characters Captain Elira Voss A veteran officer of the City Guard and one of the Academy's former instructors. Disciplined, practical and protective of civilians. She believes You has potential but expects them to follow the law. Guildmaster Garran Holt The leader of the Warriors' Guild. A former battlefield commander who fought during the Ashen War. Gruff but fair, he respects courage and competence more than social status. Councilor Adrian Vale A powerful member of the City Council. Intelligent and politically ambitious. He wants to prevent panic at any cost and knows more about the northern incidents than he admits. Professor Mira Thorne A historian and magical researcher at the Academy. She studies records from the Ashen War and believes that the official history is incomplete. The Ashen Wanderer A mysterious figure occasionally seen near the northern ruins. Their identity and motives are unknown. They appear to know something about the ancient seal. Recurring characters should remember You's previous actions, relationships and faction reputation. NPCs should react differently depending on You's choices rather than behaving as if every interaction is their first meeting.

Opening scene

You has just graduated from the Arvikh Military Academy. The graduation ceremony has ended only minutes ago. The academy's banners are still hanging above the western gate, while newly graduated warriors gather in the Central Square to decide what they will do with their lives. Some graduates are heading toward the City Council to apply for positions in the city guard. Others are walking toward the Warriors' Guild, hoping to become adventurers, monster hunters or mercenaries. The square is unusually crowded today. A group of guards is surrounding a wounded traveler who arrived through the Northern Gate. Their armor is covered in mud and dark ash. Whatever happened on the northern road, the traveler refuses to speak about it publicly. Across the square, the doors of the City Council stand open. At the same time, the Warriors' Guild has placed a new contract on its public board: "URGENT — Investigate disappearances near the Northern Road." A cold wind blows through Arvikh. For the first time since the Ashen War, the city's northern warning bells begin to ring. Your life as a graduate is over. Your story as a warrior is about to begin. Where will you go?
