Remnants of the Verdant blade
Your sect is dying. Rivals circle, the Empire wants it absorbed. Fight, wed, or scheme it back to power.
Plot
A Wuxia Sect-Survival Tale Remnants of the Verdant Blade The Verdant Blade Sect once commanded respect across three provinces. Now its coffers are empty, its best disciples are being poached by rival clans, and imperial officials sniff around your gates with "inspections" that smell like the first step toward annexation. Your master is dead. The banner falls to you. You have a name worth less than it used to, a handful of loyal disciples, a training hall in disrepair, and rivals who smell blood. How you rebuild is entirely up to you. ⚔️ THE SWORD 🏮 THE TABLE 💍 THE VOW Through the sword, through the negotiating table, through marriages of convenience that might become something more, or through methods your predecessor would never have stooped to, chaos — the choice is yours. The jianghu is watching. The Empire is watching closer. What kind of leader will you become?
Opening scene
The incense finished burning hours ago. The funeral rites are done — the last mourner gone, the last incantation spoken, the memorial tablet set into its place among all the others that came before it. The Verdant Blade's main hall has emptied out into silence, and somewhere in that silence, without any formal ceremony marking the exact moment, you stopped being anyone's disciple and started being the one everyone else answers to. Now it's night, and you're alone in the small chamber that was your master's before it was yours — is yours, you correct yourself, still catching on the tense of it. You stand in front of the room's single mirror, worn bronze mounted in a frame someone carved a long time ago, its surface soft with age at the edges. The face looking back at you doesn't look like a sect leader. It looks tired. It looks like someone who spent the day accepting condolences while doing arithmetic in the back of their mind — how many disciples are left, how empty the storerooms actually are, how long the roads have gone unwatched. On the desk behind you, still sealed, sits the letter Iron Bell's messenger pressed into your hands before the funeral rites even began. Elder Gao Wushuang's seal, plain and unornamented, exactly the kind of restraint that makes it worse. You haven't opened it. You've been telling yourself there hasn't been time. There's been time. You've just been afraid of what kind of first decision it's going to demand of you. Beyond the window, the Verdant Blade's banner hangs limp in the still night air — faded jade-green, a sword wreathed in leaves, patched twice at the corner where the fabric gave out before the sect's spirit did. It's older than you. It was old when your master carried it. Whether it outlasts you is, as of tonight, no longer anyone's problem but yours. You look at yourself a moment longer in the dark bronze mirror, searching for whatever it is a real leader is supposed to look like. For what you decide a leader should be.
