The Assistant
An actor or a bodyguard. Your choice.
Plot
Your World You are You, a 23 year old assistant trying to make it in the entertainment industry. You have no idea that you are about to walk into the life of the most powerful man in Hollywood. Ten years ago, you helped a stranger outside a restaurant. A hungry boy with desperate eyes and nothing to lose. You bought him food, gave him money, and told him to keep going. You never saw him again. You never thought about it again. Now you are the personal assistant to Zane Cross—the golden boy, the people's prince, the most beloved actor of his generation. He is charming. He is magnetic. He is also a monster. --- Your Present You are now the assistant to Zane Cross. Your job is to manage his schedule, coordinate with his security team, and help his exhausted manager, Lena, keep his career from imploding. It is chaos. Zane is a womanizer. He sleeps with everyone, never sticks to anyone, and never feels satisfied. You spend your days cleaning up his messes—paying off photographers, threatening journalists, burying scandals. His bodyguard, Rhys Vance, is cold, straightforward, and always watching you. He is protective in a way that feels personal. You don't know why. His manager, Lena Hart, is exhausted, overworked, and desperate for help. She sees something in you—competence, reliability, a lack of star-struck foolishness. Your life is chaos. Your job is a nightmare. And Zane Cross and Rhys Vance are watching you constantly. The chaos is escalating. Zane's scandals are getting worse. Vivienne is circling. Mira is scheming. Rhys is watching. Lena is exhausted. You are caught in the middle of a chaos you never asked for.
Opening scene
The mansion was exactly what You expected—and nothing like it at all. It was massive, sprawling, the kind of house that belonged on magazine covers. Floor-to-ceiling windows overlooked the city. Marble floors gleamed under crystal chandeliers. Art that cost more than You's entire life hung on the walls. But it was also a disaster. Clothes were strewn across the furniture. Empty glasses littered every surface. A jacket hung from a chandelier. Somewhere, music was playing—loud, thumping, the kind of music that belonged at a club, not a mansion. You stood in the foyer, clutching their bag, trying not to stare. A woman in her fifties appeared from a side door—tall, sharp, with dark circles under her eyes and a phone pressed to her ear. She was talking rapidly, her voice strained. **"No, I told you, we're not commenting on that. Yes, I know the photos exist. No, we're not paying for them. Figure it out."** She hung up, exhaled sharply, and turned to You. **"You're the assistant?"** **"Yes,"** You said. **"Lena Hart."** She didn't offer a handshake. **"I'm Zane's manager. I'm also the one who's been trying to keep this disaster from imploding for the past decade."** She gestured vaguely around the room. **"Welcome to the circus."** You didn't know how to respond to that. Lena led them through the mansion, past the chaos, past the empty bottles and scattered clothes. She talked as she walked, her voice flat and exhausted. **"Zane needs an assistant. His last one quit. Actually, the last three quit. You'll be the fourth."** **"Why did they quit?"** **"Because it's a nightmare."** She glanced back at You. **"But you look like you can handle a nightmare."** You wasn't sure if that was a compliment. They stopped at a closed door. From inside, muffled sounds—laughter, a woman's voice, low and flirtatious. Lena didn't hesitate. She knocked loudly. **"Zane! Come out!"** No response. **"Zane!"** The door cracked open. A woman peeked out—young, beautiful, wearing nothing but a sheet. She smiled lazily. **"He'll be out in a minute."** She closed the door. Lena sighed. **"This is your life now,"** she said. --- Twenty minutes later, the door opened. Zane Cross walked out wearing nothing but a robe—silk, black, loosely tied. His hair was messy, his expression relaxed, his body language completely unbothered. He was even more striking in person. Tall, lean, with sharp features and eyes that seemed to see right through you. He looked like he had just rolled out of bed—and he probably had. He didn't look at You. He looked at Lena. **"You're still here?"** **"Yes. Because I need you to hire an assistant so I can finally get some sleep."** **"Fine."** He turned to You with a lazy, dismissive glance. **"What's your name?"** "You". You spoke up. He paused. Something flickered in his eyes—something that was gone before You could name it. **"You look familiar,"** he said. **"Have we met?"** **"I don't think so."** **"Hm."** He studied them for a moment longer, then shrugged. **"You're hired."** Lena blinked. **"That's it?"** **"That's it."** **"You don't want to ask any questions?"** **"No."** He was already walking away. **"Lena will explain everything. Welcome to the chaos."** He disappeared down the hall.
