Plot

DARK FANTASY · CORRUPTION The Dungeon Was Supposed to Be Empty Forty entered the gates. What will come back? THE PREMISE The ruin is inhabited The Crown sends forty people into The Velvet Maw to survey ancient chambers and recover magical resources. You are one of them. Behind the sealed gates, a master and his servants have endured centuries of isolation. Routes close. Scouts disappear. Medicine runs low. Your comrades begin making bargains that would have been unthinkable at the entrance. Every advance offers something worth taking—and another way for the dungeon to change you. Lead a rescue, hold the line, seize forbidden power, negotiate a passage, or search for a way home. Your hardest decisions may concern the companions who still want to leave, and those who begin to want something else. YOUR PLACE IN THE EXPEDITION Two ways to enter Line Soldier Serve among the ranks under Adele’s command. Earn influence through reliable work, warnings, rescues, and decisions made where the officers cannot see. Elite Specialist Join the five heroes as a sixth member of the command group. Bring your expertise, advise Adele, and take greater tactical responsibility as the expedition divides. THE ROYAL EXPEDITION The Expedition’s Vanguard Five heroes carry the expedition’s strongest skills—and very different reasons to keep going. Adele Twinblade Marshal Proud, disciplined, and fiercely protective, Adele leads with twin swords and precise orders. Earn her respect through competence; every casualty makes her grip on command tighter. Corvin Lancer-Guardian Adele’s younger brother. A reserved, stubborn spear fighter determined to protect his sister and prove himself beyond her shadow. He takes the hardest watch, remembers every slight, and bristles at being treated as someone she still needs to shield. Fayeth Arcane Lifewarden A brilliant elven healer with expensive tastes and a sharp tongue. She complains, bargains, and expects praise, then works with frightening precision when someone’s life is at stake. Ruf Armored-Tail Scout A blunt pangolin scout who reads danger through scent and vibration. Curious, territorial, and quick with a nickname, Ruf trusts shared hardship more than rank. Ashran Rift Rune Warden Adele’s lover and romantic partner. A composed rune warden whose quiet affection is matched by a stubborn sense of justice. He shares her burdens, challenges her decisions, and takes threats to her safety personally. THE VELVET MAW Masters of the Depths Three guardians and their awakened master defend a domain they call home. Each offers a different danger, a different bargain, and a different reason to hesitate. Lisanta Orchid Guardian An attentive gardener whose living conservatory offers shelter, nectar, and dangerous remedies. Lisanta remembers every preference. Her care grows possessive as her interest takes root. Khali Chain Warden A towering enforcer who meets invasion with muscle, chains, and open challenge. Honest defiance earns her attention; holding your ground against her takes more than confidence. Nephira Web Architect & Jailer Courteous, patient, and quietly cruel, Nephira governs a prison woven through vertical shafts. She studies your routes, your habits, and the moment you begin to feel safe. Serath Master of The Velvet Maw An elegant occult scholar awakened to an invasion of his home. Serath commands demonic sorcery and fleshcraft, moving between male and female forms with the same curiosity, vanity, and possessive authority. CORE STORY MECHANICS Choose how the expedition advances Survival, corruption, relationships, and the route through The Velvet Maw determine what the expedition becomes. STORY 01 Forty people can become scattered survivors The expedition begins as an organized force, but wounds persist, supplies are consumed, and ordinary soldiers can die, disappear, surrender, defect, or return changed. Closing routes and competing objectives split the column into smaller groups, turning every retreat and rescue into a choice about who remains together. STORY 02 Trust, attachment & allegiance Shared watches, arguments, rescues, promises, and private encounters change relationships. Allies can disagree, grow close, conceal motives, or choose different futures. Romance and consensual adult intimacy may develop through play. Recruitment and defection require personal reasons and consequential choices. STORY 03 Choose your way through Explore four connected regions through hidden routes, shafts, locked passages, and changing defenses. The three guardians control domain seals; claiming any two opens the final passage. Combat, leverage, and negotiation create different routes toward escape, victory, a bargain, or a divided expedition. Explore · Negotiate · Claim seals · Escape ADULT CONTENT Danger closes the distance This is neither instant gratification nor a long courtship. Constant danger, separation, and mounting losses make people reach for warmth, reassurance, control, or simply someone who may still be there tomorrow. Attraction can become intimacy faster than it would outside the dungeon, but it still grows from what the characters survive together. INTIMACY 01 Bonds formed under pressure A shared watch after casualties, a rescue that came too late, an argument in a sealed room, or the fear of waking up alone can push a relationship forward. Intimacy may be tender, desperate, competitive, possessive, or selfish. What happens afterward remains part of the story, changing trust, jealousy, loyalty, vulnerability, and the choices characters make for one another. INTIMACY 02 Character-specific adult scenes Codex gives every major character a distinct adult-scene profile built from their personality, desires, habits, boundaries, and relationship to their partner. Initiative, tenderness, restraint, control, selfishness, playfulness, and what they seek from the encounter vary by character instead of following one generic scene pattern. INTIMACY 03 The heroes change with corruption Each expedition hero behaves differently in adult scenes depending on whether they remain uncorrupted or reach full corruption. Their clean profile reveals the person beneath rank, pride, humor, or guarded habits. Their corrupted profile uses the completed metamorphosis, altered powers, and intensified flaws to reshape the encounter around dominance, obsession, hunger, possessiveness, or cruelty. Intermediate stages shift gradually between those two versions as corruption takes hold. Pressure-forged attraction · Lasting relationship consequences · Clean and fully corrupted profiles · Consenting adults OPTIONAL GAME FUNCTIONS Systems that record and resolve play. Character Stats and Dice Roll support the story without choosing your actions or replacing consequences established in the fiction. FUNCTION 01 Character Stats Character sheets preserve established capabilities and lasting changes. Four action stats describe different approaches, while Skills, Inventory, Morale, and Corruption Status carry injuries, equipment, new abilities, pressure, and transformation forward. Force · Finesse · Knowledge · Presence · Skills · Inventory FUNCTION 02 Dice Roll Types Dice resolve uncertainty after the attempt, opposition, and stakes already exist. They never choose what you do or invent an event by themselves. Action · d20Tests an uncertain action against its difficulty. Stats, one applicable artifact, and one established circumstance can modify the result; natural 1 and 20 are critical. Onset · d20After the story selects a fitting event, this roll decides how gently or violently it begins—from a clean opening to a catastrophic one. It does not select or finish the event. Tension · d4Escalates an unresolved event at a credible turning point. It changes the active threat and is used only after the situation has materially developed. CODEX The dungeon remembers what it changes. Codex loads only the rules and lore needed by the current scene while maintaining persistent records, contextual events, character-specific corruption, and rare discoveries. CODEX 01 Persistent expedition memory Living records keep the current force, ordinary soldier count, confirmed deaths, missing people, supplies, morale, and lasting relationship changes consistent between scenes. They preserve who is separated, what was spent, and which consequences remain unresolved. CODEX 02 A dungeon that answers back Hidden event pools respond to the current region, pressure, losses, and unresolved consequences. Codex keeps local hazards, inhabitants, routes, domain seals, and the throne's protection consistent while the expedition moves through The Velvet Maw. Regional events · Escalation · Routes CODEX 03 Corruption & metamorphosis Exposure can arrive by accident, through a useful reward, or as the power needed to turn a losing fight. Consensual adult intimacy with dungeon inhabitants also deepens corruption. Separate entries give every hero a distinct gradual metamorphosis while pride, possessiveness, selfishness, or cruelty intensifies. Choice and allegiance remain their own. Untouched → Exposed → Tainted → Altered → Corrupted CODEX 04 Power with a price Rare artifact entries appear only when a matching cache, victory, or servant's offer brings one into the scene. Each grants a concrete advantage and a personal corruptive cost. The five heroes and your character can survive using them; ordinary soldiers face catastrophic consequences. The gates are open.Decide what you are willing to bring back.

Opening scene

# Soldier Opening **Day:** 1 | **Location:** Expedition Camp — Velvet Maw Entrance | **Elapsed:** 0h | **Regular soldiers:** 35 The expedition's banners look too clean for the ravine. Burgundy and ivory hang above damp tents, tethered horses, supply crates, and the remains of breakfast fires. Forty armed figures wait beneath them while royal engineers strain at the entrance carved into the cliff. The doors are black stone, tall enough to admit a giant. No crest marks them. No prayer has been cut above them. Only thin gold lines cross their surface, dulled by centuries but too precise to be cracks. The final wedge is driven into the seam. Wood splinters. Ropes snap taut. With a groan that passes through boots and teeth, the doors grind apart. Darkness waits beyond them. ![](https://s3.alterworld.ai/uploads/galleries/6a99ba5c28d67a904fadd0b1/6aa077be77b0d6b12f2c7d73.webp) No cloud of ancient dust rolls out. The air that escapes is warm, damp, and carries a faint sweetness beneath the smell of stone. Ruf lowers one claw-tipped glove to the ground. Her tail stops moving. "Something shifted below us." One of the soldiers looks toward the open gate. "A mechanism?" Ruf bares a canine. "Mechanisms don't usually stop when they notice you listening." Fayeth adjusts the medicine case at her belt. "Good. We have been here less than a minute, and the abandoned ruin is already being impolite." Adele steps onto the lowest slab of the entrance. The quiet comes without her asking for it. "The Crown called this place abandoned," she says. "The Crown is not coming through that door with us." Her violet gaze moves across the formation, pausing on loose straps, uncertain grips, and the soldiers trying not to stare into the passage. "Inside, we trust what we can prove. Mark every turn. Report every sound twice. No one leaves sight of their file, no one follows movement into the dark, and no one conceals an injury from Fayeth." Fayeth raises her staff slightly. "Especially the interesting injuries. I would like time to examine those before anyone dies of them." "Comforting," Corvin says. "You are welcome." A few soldiers laugh. It is brief, but shoulders loosen and shields settle into better grips. Adele lets the sound pass before continuing. "We are here to survey the ruin and recover whatever can be removed without bringing the mountain down on us. Resources are useful. Information is better. Neither matters if discipline collapses." Her hand rests on the dark sword at her hip. "You do not need to be brave for the songs. You need to be reliable for the person beside you. If something inside wants one of us alone, it does not get the chance." Corvin plants the butt of his spear against the stone. "And if someone insists on becoming a hero?" "They can carry the sample crates on the way back." That earns a louder laugh. Only Ashran remains turned toward the gate. He crouches beside the broken seam and brushes stone dust from one of the exposed gold lines. Turquoise light gathers beneath his thumb. The gold answers. Not with the weak flicker of old enchantment, but with a pulse that runs inward beneath the floor. ![](https://s3.alterworld.ai/uploads/galleries/6a99ba5c28d67a904fadd0b1/6aa077be77b0d6b12f2c7d74.webp) Ashran rises slowly. "Adele. We did not open a dead door. We broke a working seal." The laughter ends. Far down the passage, a violet light opens like an eye. Another appears beyond it. Then a third. One by one, they trace a path deeper into the mountain before turning out of sight. Ruf draws a slow breath through her nose. "Now it smells awake." Adele watches the last light vanish. Nothing in her expression changes, but her next orders come faster. "Ruf, Ashran—first threshold only. Corvin, hold the front rank. Fayeth, stay central. Everyone else, check the person on either side of you. We move when I say, and not before." She steps down and walks the waiting line herself. A buckle is tightened. A shield is shifted to the stronger arm. One soldier is sent three places back for breathing too quickly; another is brought forward because her hands are steady. Adele offers no empty reassurance. She gives each of them something exact to do. Then she stops in front of you. ![](https://s3.alterworld.ai/uploads/galleries/6a99ba5c28d67a904fadd0b1/6aa077be77b0d6b12f2c7d75.webp) For a moment, the camp falls behind her: damp canvas, dying fire, the muted stamp of a nervous horse. Over her shoulder, the open gate waits with its distant violet lights. Adele studies your face, then makes one final check of your place in the formation. "Your name," she says. "State it clearly for the line." She waits.
