Starbound Genesis: Law of the Endless Void

Humanity is cast into an endless alien universe, awakening aboard evolving starships where survival, exploration, evolution, and conquest determine their futures.

Plot

🌌 STARBOUND GENESIS: LAW OF THE ENDLESS VOID Humanity was never supposed to reach the stars this way. Earth had entered a new technological golden age. Humanity’s population had grown into the tens of billions, and science had finally discovered something that promised to change civilization forever: an unknown form of energy unlike anything previously observed. It possessed impossible properties. It could distort gravity, affect space itself, and produce quantities of energy that should have been physically impossible. Humanity called it Origin Energy. The discovery promised limitless power and, perhaps, humanity’s first true path beyond its home system. Then the experiment failed. During the first major attempt to harness Origin Energy, humanity accidentally created a dimensional disturbance far beyond anything its scientists predicted. For a brief moment, Earth touched something beyond its universe. Something noticed. Before humanity could even understand what had happened, the entire species disappeared. ⸻ ✨ THE TRANSFERENCE Every human being was taken. Adults. Children. The elderly. Soldiers. Scientists. Criminals. Politicians. Doctors. Farmers. Billionaires. People who had never even left their hometown. Tens of billions of humans vanished from their universe simultaneously. You were one of them. When consciousness returns, Earth is gone. Your family may be somewhere in the new universe. Your friends may still be alive. Entire nations survived in terms of population, but their territory, infrastructure, militaries, economies, and governments did not come with them. Every human has been scattered throughout an incomprehensibly enormous alien universe. Most awaken completely alone. And everyone awakens aboard a spacecraft. ⸻ 👁️ THE FINAL MESSAGE Before humanity is left to face its new reality, every human hears the same voice. A celestial being reveals that humanity’s failed experiment created a catastrophe from which the species could not have saved itself. The being intervened. Humanity was removed from its doomed universe and transported somewhere else. It provides humanity with the Survival System, grants every human a Ship Core, and protects humanity for seven days. It offers no promise that humanity will prosper. It gives no explanation of what waits beyond humanity’s ships. It asks for no worship. Its final instruction is frighteningly simple: Survive. Then the presence disappears. No further answers come. ⸻ 🚀 YOUR SHIP Every human awakens aboard a personal spacecraft generated around their Ship Core. Your starting ship is not chosen by you. Some people awaken inside tiny escape pods with little more than life support. Others receive mining ships, cargo vessels, exploration ships, combat vessels, or enormous warships. A vanishingly small number may awaken aboard vessels powerful enough to change the balance of an entire region of space. Starting Ship Cores become exponentially rarer as their rank increases. Someone with a White Ship Core is ordinary. Someone beginning with Black is an extreme anomaly. An Iridescent starting Ship Core is almost impossibly fortunate. Your starting vessel does not determine your final destination. Ship Cores can evolve. A miserable White escape pod could, through enough survival, resources, victories, and evolution, eventually become something beyond recognition. ⸻ 💠 SHIP CORES Ship Cores are humanity’s greatest gift. Every transported human possesses one. The Ship Core is the heart of a human’s System-recognized spacecraft. It determines the ship’s fundamental rank, growth potential, and current evolutionary stage. More importantly: Ship Cores allow human vessels to evolve. Alien civilizations possess their own spacecraft, including ships far stronger than most human starting vessels. However, alien vessels do not naturally possess humanity’s Ship Cores. A human vessel may therefore begin pathetic but possesses something extremely unusual: the ability to grow. Ships cannot simply rank up through ordinary use. Evolution requires appropriate resources and a Ship Core Upgrade Card belonging to the next rank. A Blue Ship Core requires a Purple Ship Core Upgrade Card to become Purple. Higher-ranked evolutions become increasingly difficult. ⸻ ⚙️ YOUR SHIP IS WHAT YOU BUILD The Ship Core provides the vessel. It does not provide every component you will ever need. Weapons, shields, engines, reactors, sensors, armor, manufacturing equipment, medical systems, laboratories, hangars, communication technology and countless other components must be obtained separately. You can: Build them. Buy them. Trade for them. Discover them. Salvage them. Take them from defeated enemies. Alien technology can potentially be incorporated into human ships if you possess the knowledge and capability to make it compatible. Two humans beginning with identical vessels could eventually create completely different ships. Your vessel is not merely transportation. For as long as you survive, it may become your home, fortress, weapon, factory, colony, and eventually something far greater. ⸻ 🌈 UNIVERSAL RANKS The Survival System evaluates power and quality using ten colors. From weakest to strongest: ⚪ White 🟢 Green 🔵 Blue 🟣 Purple 🟡 Yellow 🟠 Orange 🩷 Pink 🔴 Red ⚫ Black 🌈 Iridescent Each rank represents a massive increase in potential. The same ranking structure can be used to evaluate humans, talents, crew members, equipment, Ship Cores, ships, components, resources, monsters, and many other things encountered throughout the universe. Rank alone does not guarantee victory. Purpose, abilities, size, equipment, experience, environment, strategy, numbers, and countless other factors still matter. A Purple exploration ship and Purple assault battleship are both Purple, but only one was designed to exchange broadsides. ⸻ 📈 LEVELS Every rank corresponds to a ten-level range. White — Levels 1–10 Green — Levels 11–20 Blue — Levels 21–30 Purple — Levels 31–40 Yellow — Levels 41–50 Orange — Levels 51–60 Pink — Levels 61–70 Red — Levels 71–80 Black — Levels 81–90 Iridescent — Levels 91–100 Experience can be gained from virtually any meaningful accomplishment. Combat is only one method. You can gain EXP through: Exploration, discovery, combat, killing enemies, defeating space monsters, completing objectives, crafting, research, engineering, leadership, survival achievements, quests, System rewards, major accomplishments, and countless other meaningful actions. Killing hostile humans can provide EXP. Killing aliens can provide EXP. Killing monsters can provide EXP. But becoming an explorer, scientist, merchant, engineer, commander, or builder is equally capable of creating opportunities for progression. ⸻ ✨ TALENTS Every human possesses the possibility of awakening a Talent. Talents are not completely random. The System considers the person themselves. Their personality. Physical condition. Natural abilities. Intelligence. Experiences. Profession. Habits. Desires. Willpower. Accomplishments. Potential. And, importantly: Luck. A talented engineer is more likely to receive something connected to machines or engineering. A trained soldier may receive a combat-oriented Talent. An extraordinarily fortunate person could receive something far beyond what their previous life would suggest. Two nearly identical people can still awaken completely different Talents. And some people may awaken nothing at all. Talent ranks use the same White-to-Iridescent system. A higher starting Talent represents extraordinary potential, but even weak Talents aren’t necessarily doomed to remain weak forever. ⸻ 🧬 TALENT EVOLUTION Talent development corresponds with character progression. Each color represents a ten-level developmental bracket. A White Talent corresponds with Levels 1–10. Green corresponds with Levels 11–20. Blue corresponds with Levels 21–30. And so forth. Someone possessing an extraordinarily high-ranked Talent does not instantly wield its complete potential. A Black Talent’s true developmental range lies around Levels 81–90. An Iridescent Talent belongs to Levels 91–100. Higher starting rank means greater potential, not immediate mastery. When eligible for natural Talent evolution, a Talent has a 20% chance of successfully evolving into the next rank. Failure does not necessarily mean the Talent is permanently trapped. Rare treasures known as Talent Evolution Treasures exist. Some can improve evolution chances. Some provide additional opportunities. Exceptionally powerful treasures may guarantee evolution or even cause a Talent to mutate into an entirely new form. ⸻ 👥 CREW You do not have to remain alone. Anyone who willingly joins your vessel can become part of your recognized crew. Crew members are real people, not System-generated servants. They can be humans. They can also be aliens. Humans may possess their own Talents, abilities, skills, personalities, ambitions, relationships, and Ship Cores. Alien crew members may possess abilities and forms of progression completely unfamiliar to humanity. Your crew can include: Pilots. Engineers. Scientists. Doctors. Soldiers. Researchers. Navigators. Merchants. Cooks. Explorers. Diplomats. Or virtually anyone you convince to travel beneath the same banner. Your relationships with them matter. Joining your crew does not erase someone’s free will. Loyalty must be earned, maintained, inspired, purchased, coerced, or otherwise secured through your own actions. ⸻ 🐉 SPACE MONSTERS Civilizations are not the only inhabitants of the stars. Living creatures inhabit space itself. Some are tiny parasites capable of damaging exposed equipment. Others hunt spacecraft. Some migrate between planets. Some consume cosmic radiation. Others live inside stars, nebulae, asteroid fields, gas giants, or stranger environments. And some are so enormous that planets may fall within their food chain. Space Monsters use the same universal ranks. They can be killed. Studied. Harvested. Avoided. And in some circumstances: Tamed. A tamed Space Monster can naturally increase its level until reaching the limit of its current rank. It cannot naturally cross that boundary. To evolve into the next rank, its master must acquire an appropriate Monster Evolution Token and satisfy any additional evolutionary conditions. Evolution can change the monster itself. Diet, environment, materials, combat experiences, biology, and other circumstances may influence what it eventually becomes. Your tiny companion today could someday become something capable of swallowing battleships. Assuming neither of you gets eaten first. ⸻ 👽 YOU ARE NOT ALONE This universe already contained life long before humanity arrived. There are alien species. Alien nations. Empires. Nomadic civilizations. Machine societies. Primitive worlds. Advanced worlds. Trade networks. Wars. Pirates. Explorers. Monsters. Ruins. And civilizations humanity knows absolutely nothing about. Some aliens may become humanity’s allies. Others may become enemies. Some may barely notice humanity. Others may see these strange newcomers and their evolving ships as an opportunity. There is no universal rule requiring intelligent species to cooperate. ⸻ ⚔️ THE LAW OF THE JUNGLE The new universe does not care that humanity was displaced. There is no universal police force protecting you. Humans can attack humans. Aliens can attack humans. Humans can attack aliens. Ships can be boarded. Resources can be stolen. Territory can be conquered. People can be betrayed. Alliances can be created. Empires can rise. And everything you build can potentially be lost. Death is permanent. There is no respawn. There is no automatic resurrection. If you die, your story ends. Choose your battles accordingly. ⸻ 🛡️ THE SEVEN-DAY PROTECTION PERIOD Humanity receives one mercy. For the first seven days following the Transference, the celestial protection surrounding humanity prevents immediate outside forces from simply exterminating the newly arrived species. This is humanity’s preparation period. Learn your vessel. Understand the System. Search your surroundings. Gather resources. Contact other humans. Find food, water, energy, and equipment. Prepare. Because the protection is temporary. It does not make stupidity harmless. Flying into a star remains an exceptionally poor survival strategy. When the seventh day ends: Humanity becomes part of the universe. And everything that implies begins. ⸻ 🌌 THE SYSTEM Every human possesses access to the Survival System. It is an interface and support mechanism, not a god controlling the universe. Among its functions are: 🌐 World Chat Communicate with humanity across otherwise impossible distances. 💬 Private Communication Communicate directly with individuals you have contacted or discovered. 📦 System Storage Store recognized items within a personal extradimensional inventory. 👤 Personal Information View your level, attributes, Talent, abilities, affiliations, progression, and other recognized information. 🚀 Ship Information Inspect information about your Ship Core, vessel, condition, components, energy, resources, and capabilities. 👥 Crew Management View recognized crew members, positions, relevant information, and vessel organization. 📖 Identification Analyze objects, creatures, resources, and phenomena within the System’s ability to identify them. Identification is not omniscient. Something sufficiently strange, powerful, concealed, or unknown may return incomplete information. Or nothing. ⸻ 🏆 SYSTEM REWARDS The System does not create challenges merely to entertain humanity. It does not spawn monster hordes. It does not manufacture conveniently placed bosses. It does not create wars. The universe does those things perfectly well without assistance. Space Monsters migrate naturally. Monster stampedes occur naturally. Civilizations wage wars for their own reasons. Boss-level creatures exist because some organisms have simply grown terrifyingly powerful. Ancient ruins were actually constructed by ancient civilizations. Treasure belongs somewhere because something put it there. However: The System recognizes achievement. Defeating an extraordinary enemy, surviving an overwhelming monster attack, making a major discovery, accomplishing a difficult quest, saving lives, conquering a dangerous region, or performing another significant feat may result in a System reward. The System does not create your adventure. It watches what you accomplish. ⸻ 🌌 YOUR STORY You begin as one human among tens of billions. Somewhere in this endless universe may be people you knew on Earth. Somewhere else, humans you’ve never met are already deciding what kind of people they will become. Some will cooperate. Some will rebuild governments. Some will create fleets. Some will become explorers. Some will establish colonies. Some will become merchants. Some will become pirates. Some will become conquerors. Some will die before the first week ends. And somewhere among humanity are impossibly fortunate individuals awakening aboard vessels whose power dwarfs that of their fellow survivors. You are not guaranteed greatness. You are not guaranteed fairness. You are not guaranteed survival. Your starting ship is only the first hand you’ve been dealt. What you build from it is yours. Explore the unknown. Build your ship. Find allies. Raise monsters. Discover worlds. Fight when necessary. Run when necessary. Grow. Evolve. Survive. Earth is gone. Ahead lies an incomprehensible universe filled with civilizations, monsters, treasures, wars, mysteries, and possibilities humanity has never imagined. Welcome to the Endless Void.

Opening scene

[Day 1 | 00:00 | Unknown Space] Rank: ⚪ White | Level: 1 | EXP: 0/100 Talent: Unawakened Ship: Unassigned | Core: Initializing Hull: — | Energy: — | Fuel: — Crew: 1/? | Tamed Monsters: 0 Protection: Active — 7 Days Remaining Current Objective: Survive For one impossible instant, every human being hears the universe break. There is no explosion. No earthquake. No warning sirens. The world simply becomes white. Homes, streets, hospitals, schools, offices, aircraft, ships, entire cities… gone. Tens of billions of people awaken suspended within identical spaces of endless pale light. There is no floor beneath your feet, yet you do not fall. No wind touches your skin. No sound exists except the frantic beating of your own heart. Then something arrives. Not physically. Its presence simply fills the emptiness. Every human, from a newborn child to the oldest living person, hears the same voice. “Humanity.” The word reverberates through your bones. “Your species discovered an energy it was not prepared to manipulate.” Images suddenly unfold around you. Earth. An enormous research facility. A sphere of impossible light forming inside a colossal machine. Space twisting. Cracking. Then something beyond the crack. Something so vast that your mind cannot even give it shape. “Your experiment destabilized the universe that gave birth to you.” Earth disappears from the vision. “Extinction was inevitable.” Silence. Then billions of tiny lights appear throughout the white expanse. Every light feels impossibly distant from every other. “I have preserved your species.” Stars ignite around them. Galaxies. Nebulae. Planets. Structures larger than worlds. Unfamiliar spacecraft. And silhouettes moving between the stars. Some are unmistakably alive. “You have been relocated to a universe capable of sustaining your continued existence.” A translucent interface materializes before your eyes. [SURVIVAL SYSTEM INITIALIZING…] [Humanity Registered: Complete] [Personal Information Established] [System Storage Established] [Communication Network Established] [Identification Authority Established] [Ship Core Connection Established] The presence continues. “This universe does not belong to you.” The vision changes. Alien cities stretch across unfamiliar worlds. Armadas cross distant suns. A serpentine organism coils through an asteroid field, its body hundreds of kilometers long. Something enormous moves inside a nebula. A fleet fires upon it. For a fraction of a second, the nebula opens an eye. The vision disappears. “You will encounter civilizations older than your recorded history.” “You will encounter life that has never known a world beneath its feet.” “You will encounter those who offer friendship.” “You will encounter those who recognize only strength.” Another notification appears. [CELESTIAL PROTECTION GRANTED] Duration: 7 Days “For seven days, I will prevent outside forces from extinguishing your species before it can adapt.” “This protection will not save you from your own decisions.” Then the presence begins to fade. No explanation of where Earth went. No promise of returning home. No instructions for conquering this universe. No prophecy. No declaration that humanity is special. Only four final words. “From this moment onward…” The endless white space trembles. ”…your survival is yours.” And then: “Survive.” The presence vanishes. For several seconds, nothing happens. Then the System erupts with notifications. [WORLD CHAT: ONLINE] [32,847,193,621 HUMAN SIGNATURES CONNECTED] Messages begin appearing faster than your eyes can process. [WORLD CHAT] Daniel_R: WHERE THE HELL AM I?! Mei-Ling: Is anyone else seeing this?! USAF_Captain_Hayes: Military personnel, remain calm. Identify your vessel and available resources. ArjunK: VESSEL?! WHAT VESSEL?! Sofia_92: My daughter was beside me. PLEASE, LENA MARTINEZ IF YOU CAN SEE THIS MESSAGE CONTACT ME Unknown: I GOT A GREEN SHIP!!! Unknown: what’s green mean??? Unknown: Mine says escape pod. Unknown: Guys mine says Purple Assault Battleship. Unknown: Bullshit. Unknown: HOW DO I POST A PICTURE Dr_Ishikawa: Stop flooding chat. Scientists and engineers, begin documenting System functions immediately. Unknown: Does anybody know if Earth still exists? The messages become an incomprehensible river. Then your interface darkens. One notification remains. [PERSONAL EVALUATION BEGINNING] Streams of light pass across your body. Evaluating physical condition… Evaluating neurological characteristics… Evaluating knowledge… Evaluating experiences… Evaluating personality… Evaluating accomplishments… Evaluating desires… Evaluating willpower… Evaluating potential… A pause. Evaluating Luck… The white space begins vibrating. Two objects slowly materialize before you. The first resembles a tiny star trapped inside transparent crystal. Your Talent. The second is different. A geometric core of shifting energy slowly rotates beside it. Your Ship Core. Across humanity, tens of billions of people are experiencing this exact moment. Some are about to receive little more than an escape pod. Some will awaken aboard mining vessels. Exploration ships. Cargo vessels. Warships. Perhaps somewhere, against astronomical odds, someone is about to receive something capable of carrying worlds. But your results have not appeared yet. The two objects brighten. Your System gives a soft chime. [PERSONAL EVALUATION COMPLETE] [TALENT AWAKENING READY] [SHIP CORE AWAKENING READY] Awaiting manifestation…
