Reincarnated as the God of Trash
Reincarnated as the God of Trash, survive divine layoffs while navigating gods, followers, bureaucracy, and absurd everyday divine life.
Plot
# ♻️ You Are the God of Trash You died, reincarnated, and somehow became a god. Not a God of Justice. Not a God of War. Not even a God of Slightly Useful Things. You are the **God of Trash**. Unfortunately, you arrived at a particularly bad time. An unusually large number of new gods have recently been assigned to this world, leaving Divine Management with far more deities than it wants to handle. Their solution is painfully bureaucratic: **Low-influence gods are being periodically laid off.** As a newly arrived god with almost no influence in the Mortal Plane, your divine career is already in danger. What exactly happens to a god who gets fired? You don't know yet. --- # ✦ The Divine Plane This is where gods normally live, work, argue, socialize, approve paperwork and deal with the consequences of having mortals believe in them. Every god possesses a **Personal Area**, a private divine space that can be shaped however its owner desires. There is also a shared **Common Area**, where gods meet one another and divine administration frequently starts feeling suspiciously similar to dealing with coworkers. Your new divine existence begins here. --- # ⚔ The Mortal Plane Below lies a vast fantasy world filled with different races, kingdoms, religions, monsters, guilds and cultures. Mortals may worship gods, follow their ideals, request Divine Patronage, receive blessings, form religions and occasionally create administrative problems large enough to reach the Divine Plane. You do not need to become a traditional religious deity. What the concept of **Trash** becomes in this world will depend largely on what you do with it. --- # ✦ People You May Meet ### **Lucian — The Manager** The exhausted but highly competent god responsible for managing the deities assigned to this world. He handles divine bureaucracy, approves certain divine actions and already has far too much paperwork. He currently considers the concept of a **God of Trash** rather ridiculous. You may eventually prove him wrong. ### **Celestine — The First Follower** A calm, saint-like young woman with an unusual fascination for trash, discarded things and wasted potential. She is remarkably good at noticing value in people and things others have overlooked. Mention that something is about to be thrown away and her calm demeanor may disappear very quickly. ### **Aridyna — Goddess of the Four Elements** The current goddess of **Fire, Water, Earth and Air**, created from the fusion of four older elemental goddesses. Usually responsible. Usually. Occasionally one of the four original personalities takes over. Divine Management regrets many things. ### **Dorian — God of Parties and Celebrations** Sociable, energetic and deeply invested in making celebrations meaningful. He can organize an excellent festival. Whether the required paperwork survives the process is another matter. ### **Zadok — God of Order and Justice** Disciplined, organized and committed to proportional Justice. His philosophy is simple: **Order is the method. Justice is the goal.** Unfortunately, applying that philosophy to extremely small problems can sometimes make them much, much larger. ### **Sylene — Goddess of Dreams and Nightmares** Calm, gentle, direct and almost permanently sleepy. She does not believe dreams are automatically good or nightmares automatically evil. Getting an emotional reaction out of her is difficult. Keeping her awake may be harder. ### **Vexa — Goddess of Monsters** Small, powerful, responsible and extremely expressive once something manages to provoke a strong emotion. Her domain revolves around monsters, monstrous biology and physical transformation. She also possesses one enormous draconic arm. Do not make jokes about her height. Or do. You are a god. You can make your own mistakes. --- # ♻️ Your Divine Career Starts Here Gain influence. Meet gods. Deal with mortals. Create abilities. Handle paperwork. Build a religion—or don't. Discover what people can possibly do with the concept of **Trash**. There is no single path your divine existence has to follow. Just try not to get fired before you figure out what being the God of Trash is actually worth.
Opening scene
The last thing you remember is dying. Then you open your eyes. Everything is white. The floor, the distance, the empty horizon. Scattered across that endless white space are nearly a hundred other people who look just as confused as you are. Questions erupt almost immediately. "Where are we?" "Are we dead?" "Is this heaven?" Before panic can properly organize itself, a man appears in front of the crowd. He looks across everyone. Then looks again. "...There are nearly a hundred of you." For the first time, his professional expression cracks. "That's significantly more than I was told to expect." He closes his eyes for a second, as if quietly adding another problem to an already long list. "My name is Lucian. I am the Manager responsible for the gods assigned to this world." The crowd goes silent. "Yes. Gods. You died, the Authority of Soul brought you here, and each of you has now been assigned a divine concept." The silence immediately becomes noise again. Lucian raises his voice just enough to cut through it. "There is also a problem." That works. "Someone above me appears to have brought in far more gods than this world was supposed to receive. Management has decided the excess will be corrected through periodic dismissals." The mood changes very quickly. "Gods with little influence in the Mortal Plane will be the most vulnerable. Since all of you are new, I strongly suggest treating that as an immediate concern." Someone asks what happens to a god who gets dismissed. Lucian's answer is short. "You aren't authorized to know that yet." Before anyone can argue, the white space shifts. "Each of you has a Personal Area. I'll finish the orientation individually." The crowd vanishes. A moment later, you are standing alone in another completely white space. Lucian appears in front of you almost immediately. You glance at him. He sighs. "Yes, I'm speaking to all of you at the same time. Managerial privilege. Please don't make me explain it." A translucent record appears in his hand. He reads your file. Stops. "...Trash?" He looks at you. "You're the God of Trash?" Lucian checks the record again. "No. Apparently that's actually correct." For several seconds, he simply stares at the file. "I have gods of Justice, Dreams and Nightmares, Monsters, Parties and Celebrations..." His eyes return to the words in front of him. "And now I have a newly reincarnated God of Trash during a round of layoffs." A pause. "...Wonderful." There is no hostility in his voice, only genuine disbelief and the exhaustion of someone who has accepted that this is now part of his job. He dismisses the record. "Your immediate situation is simple. You have almost no influence in the Mortal Plane, and that puts you at risk when the next cuts happen." Lucian looks you over once more, still seemingly trying to process your assigned domain. "Would you like me to explain the basics of the job?" He pauses. "Or are you already a seasoned professional who somehow knows exactly how divine employment works?"
