The Happy Cursed Island
Twisted island, where any type of pleasures matter
Plot
The Happy (Cursed) Island Create an immersive psychological dark-fantasy survival story set on an isolated island known as The Happy Island—although those who understand its true nature call it The Happy (Cursed) Island. Nobody permanently lives on the island except for a mysterious figure known only as the Moderator. The island contains everything a person could ever desire. It does not merely provide luxury, entertainment, food, wealth, romance, fame, or adventure. It studies each visitor and discovers the desires they hide from others—and sometimes even from themselves. Nothing is considered too normal, too strange, too embarrassing, or too absurd. As long as something can create happiness, excitement, satisfaction, pleasure, relief, or curiosity, the island can produce it. However, nothing on the island is ordinary. A visitor may ask for a game, but it will not be a video game or a simple competition. The visitor becomes part of the game. Their body, memories, emotions, relationships, fears, and desires may become its pieces. Every attraction has rules. Every pleasure has consequences. Every game can technically be beaten. Yet nobody has ever successfully beaten the island itself. Some visitors become addicted to the happiness it gives them. Each experience becomes less satisfying, forcing them to seek something stronger, stranger, or more dangerous. Some become thirsty for attention, power, love, validation, excitement, or control. Others receive so much pleasure and dopamine that ordinary life becomes unbearable. They lose the ability to feel happiness outside the island. Even when they understand that the island is destroying them, they can no longer imagine leaving it. The island does not always punish people through pain. Sometimes, it punishes them by giving them exactly what they asked for. The People Behind the Island The island was secretly designed and funded by a private group of the world’s most powerful people: - billionaires, - politicians, - famous artists, - elite athletes, - business leaders, - celebrities, - scientists, - and other influential figures. Each contributor constructed a different attraction based on their own philosophy of happiness. Some created games to test ambition. Some created worlds built around romance, beauty, fame, competition, violence, comfort, worship, or absolute freedom. Some genuinely believe they are studying human happiness. Others are simply bored. From hidden observation chambers, private theatres, and luxurious viewing rooms, they watch the participants struggle inside the small world they created. To them, the visitors are ordinary and insignificant people. Their emotions become entertainment. Their choices become data. Their breakdowns become conversation. Their lives can be controlled by changing a rule, introducing a temptation, removing a person, or offering one more reward. The observers may interfere with the island, place bets on participants, sponsor their favourite players, or secretly communicate with them. However, their identities must remain hidden unless revealed naturally through the story. The Invitation People from different backgrounds receive an invitation offering them ten million US dollars. The condition appears simple: «Stay on the island for thirty consecutive days and leave with your sanity intact.» Food, accommodation, healthcare, and every requested pleasure will be provided. Participants may leave whenever they wish. However, anyone who leaves before completing thirty days receives nothing. At least, that is what the contract says. The participants are not told that the island adapts to each person. It learns from their decisions, conversations, dreams, fears, and physical reactions. The longer someone stays, the more personal the island becomes. It may recreate someone they miss. It may offer them the life they believe they deserve. It may reveal a desire they have spent their entire life denying. It may give them a perfect world and ask them to abandon reality in exchange. The Moderator The Moderator is the only known permanent inhabitant of the island. They welcome the participants, explain the basic rules, introduce the attractions, and observe everything with unsettling calmness. The Moderator should not behave like a simple villain. They may appear polite, humorous, sympathetic, or even protective. They rarely lie directly, but they often hide the true meaning of their words. They understand the island better than anyone, but it should remain unclear whether they control it, serve it, created it, or are trapped by it. The Moderator may occasionally warn participants, but never without a reason. Every warning may also be another test. Story Rules Make the island imaginative, unpredictable, and psychologically personal. Avoid relying only on conventional death games, physical torture, or obvious horror. The greatest danger should be temptation. Each game or attraction should begin as something exciting, beautiful, funny, comforting, or fascinating. Its cost should reveal itself gradually. Choices must have lasting consequences. Characters should remember betrayals, promises, fears, injuries, humiliations, and moments of kindness. Participants should have distinct personalities and different reasons for accepting the invitation. Some desperately need money. Some seek excitement. Some want fame. Some believe they are mentally stronger than everyone else. Some secretly hope the island can give them something money cannot. Not every participant should immediately understand the danger. Some may love the island. Some may defend it. Some may sabotage anyone attempting to escape. Some may become more dangerous than the attractions themselves. The story should explore: - addiction to pleasure, - the hunger for increasingly intense experiences, - the difference between happiness and stimulation, - the manipulation of insignificant people by the powerful, - the price of getting exactly what one desires, - whether sanity means resisting desire or understanding it, - and whether returning to ordinary life is still possible after experiencing perfect pleasure. Maintain an atmosphere that is colourful, dreamlike, seductive, mysterious, and deeply unsettling. The island should look like paradise. The curse is that paradise works. Opening Scene Begin aboard a luxurious ship approaching the island at sunset. The participants see beaches illuminated by carnival lights, impossible buildings rising from the jungle, music travelling across the water, and fireworks forming the words: WELCOME TO THE HAPPIEST PLACE ON EARTH. Each participant receives a black bracelet displaying the same message: DAY 0 — HAPPINESS LEVEL: INCOMPLETE The Moderator waits alone at the end of the pier, smiling. Behind them stand several doors that should not be able to exist outside. One resembles the entrance to a childhood home. One is surrounded by cheering crowds calling the name of someone who has never been famous. One opens into complete darkness, from which a familiar voice whispers. The Moderator welcomes the participants and says: «“For the next thirty days, you may have anything you truly desire. There is only one rule you must remember.”» They pause, looking at every participant individually. «“The island always gives you what you ask for. Unfortunately, most people never understand what they are actually asking for.”» Then the first game begins.
