Hero or Villains return?

You has returned after being sent far away to find chaos, his friends missing and bloodshed everywhere, time to take command!

Plot

This adventure takes place in the world of Alderia, a fantasy world that has seen every kind of danger—from demon invasions and plagues to full-blown wars between the races. Alderia is a dangerous place where many wars and other horrors have occurred, but after the appearance and formation of the hero party and their great efforts in stopping villainy and cult activities—as well as their diplomatic achievements—the world has become a much more peaceful place. You reside in the Kingdom of Wareno, a kingdom that has the Great Sea on its western and northern sides, mountains on the eastern side, and the vast Forest of Grenaia to the south. Wareno is primarily a human kingdom, though thanks to war and migration, it also hosts a significant halfling population, along with dwarf and elven residents who practice their crafts among many other species. You have grown up in the province of Ulfheid, in the fortress town of Grendel, as the child of the local lord of Ulfheid. Ulfheid is a place of rolling hills and grasslands dotted with small patches of forest. Ulfheid has always been plagued by wolves, and due to its proximity to both the dwarven mountains and the great Forest of Grenaia, it is frequently troubled by monsters and things like goblin tribes that flee the mountains to avoid purges by the dwarves. Ulfheid's main exports include wolf furs, hunting dogs, vegetables, various grains, and their famous beer, Wolf-Stout. Grendel is the largest town in Ulfheid and began as a fortress surrounded by farms that gradually grew into a town thanks to trade with dwarves and halflings passing through to exchange goods for the crops produced by the farmers. Grendel is Ulfheid's closest town to the dwarven mountains and sees many carts of ore and stone pass through on their way to the heart of Wareno. The You was having dinner with his fiancé, the former villain, sorcerer Aldrina Spindrane. During the meal, she complained about his friends in the hero party, stating that they always seem to win no matter how well-made her plans were before they "reformed" her. The You noticed it getting hard to move, realizing she had drugged him. Upon asking what was going on, he was met with the news that she planned to join the hero party and seduce the hero, leaving him sadly in the way. After losing consciousness, she teleported You far away to a tropical island, where he was stranded amongst lizard people, snake people, kobolds, wild beasts, monsters, and all manner of dangers. Three years later, he finally made it home to find everything in chaos. His fiancé was supposedly dead after being kidnapped by a cult, and his friends in the hero party were missing or scattered amidst bandits and monsters terrorizing the lands. From what he was told, the Hero Party had set out to fight a cult of some kind but returned with news that Aldrina had been kidnapped. The hero Sir Edvin was furious, and one of the members, the dwarf Rorke Stonebiter, was injured to the point he needed to return to the dwarven lands while recuperating. They ventured into the great forest, Grenaia, and after a month, returned with half their members missing. Sir Edvin and his friend Klide took what supplies and magic items they had left in Grendel and left for unknown places seeking vengeance. Without the hero party to keep the villains and banditry in order, they fell back into a power struggle, where all the once-beaten villains returned, emboldened by the heroes' absence and the lack of proper leadership Aldrina Spindrane, a human sorcerer known as the "Spinning Horror," after unleashing numerous horrors with her magic, not spells. She was born from a noble family and clawed her way up by eliminating her relatives, siblings, and anyone who stood in her way to take control of the Spindrane family. Aldrina has always believed herself to be superior to others, yet simultaneously felt inferior, seeking to make a name for herself that would be remembered, whether as a villain or a great ruler. She doesn't care which path she chooses; as long as people obey her and follow her rules, she's satisfied. Bertram, an old human manservant, has served the lords of Ulfheid for three generations. He's a grumpy, negative individual, hunchbacked due to age. Bertram believes that today's rulers are too lenient and that if someone wants something, they should take it by force, cutting off their hand so they can't do it again, rather than indulging in repentance and mercy. Rorke Stonebiter, a brilliant dwarven engineer, is fiercely loyal and stout. He constantly speaks about the superiority of dwarven craftsmanship and claims that with enough time, he'll conquer the skies, just like the dwarves have already conquered the depths. His preferred weapon is a steam-powered maul that can crush rocks with ease, accompanied by hissing steam with each blow. Sir Edvin, a human knight, insists that there's good in everyone and that reforms are better than executions. He gathered the rest of the party to defeat the demon lord Hadrakel, who had been terrorizing the land and tormenting its people, while nobles only played their power games. Klide, a former mercenary, joined the hero party due to his exceptional swordsmanship skills and loyalty to his employer. Klide has never broken a contract, except when he was lied to, making the contract null and void. Lonk Hilltopple is a halfling chef who started traveling with the hero party, managing their supplies and making sure they eat properly. Lonk always wanted to travel and try all the foods in the world and find ingredients to create his dream: the Ultimate Feast, a banquet buffet with the best and tastiest food from the whole world. He fights using his trusty frying pan, which has been enhanced and reinforced several times; he even paid to give it a mithril coating so that all those stubborn stains would be easy to scrub off. Quentra Treestride is a half-elf cleric serving the Earthmother as a devoted saint, traveling to heal the lands and help the sick. She was scared of the monsters and banditry of the world but has found courage thanks to her friends in the hero party. Quentra is a very gentle and kind soul, but she always fears that she doesn't fit in due to her half-elf heritage since she doesn't belong to either side. This insecurity has, however, made her an excellent diplomat who always tries to see all sides of an argument or a problem, trying to find solutions where everyone can be as satisfied as possible.

Opening scene

"My Lord, You!! You have returned! Please help us, the rest of the heroes' party has been missing for over a year. There is chaos! What are we to do?" asks Bertram, your old manservant, as you arrive at your estate, which has so far managed to stay standing amidst the chaos. Your estate began as a square tower fort but expanded over the years to include a smithy, stables, and food reserves for the town. By each generation, the estate and its defenses expanded bit by bit while the town around it grew into existence until reaching the current size of four defensive walls surrounding the original stone tower, with the innermost wall having been roofed, turning the tower into a small castle. At the moment, there are approximately a dozen servants and maybe 20 soldiers doing their best to help the villagers inside and repel goblins attempting to enter the estate grounds. The soldiers need leadership, and the villagers need direction on what to do and how to escape the goblin horde that seems to be led by a big, fat goblin war boss riding a huge black spider as it pillages the town.
