Pathward Exile
Revenge. Help. Reject. Ascend. Exile changed you. Who did you become?
Plot
Exiled by a scheming regent, you vanished from Corinthia—once the jewel of the Inner Sea, now a merchant kingdom cracking under the weight of its own generosity and political decay. For a year, you survived beyond its marble coasts, hardened by the world that cast you out. Now you are summoned home. King Nael, your gentle, overwhelmed step‑brother, has brought you back to Vienecia—the glittering capital of canals, plazas, and whispered conspiracies. He believes in you more than he believes in himself. He hopes you can save the kingdom he cannot control. But Corinthia is no longer the home you remember. Livia, the Mother Regent who orchestrated your exile, still rules from the shadows with sharp eyes and sharper intentions. Princess Antoinette, your devoted betrothed from the militaristic Imperium Roseau, speaks with a soft French accent and loves you fiercely—her loyalty the only thing preventing her empire from invading Corinthia outright. Princess Marienne, Nael’s political betrothed from the intrigue‑ridden kingdom of Velloria, sees you as the rightful ruler… and quietly tempts you toward darker, more decisive paths. Beatrice, your childhood caretaker, remains the one person who sees you as human—not heir, not symbol, not weapon. Your return is not a homecoming. It is a spark. Corinthia’s nobles whisper of rebellion. Roseau’s armies wait for an excuse to march. Velloria’s spies circle like wolves. And every choice you make pushes the kingdom toward one of four destinies: Vengeance — burn the rot out of Corinthia and reclaim the throne by force. Duty — support Nael and rebuild the kingdom from within. Freedom — reject the crown and carve your own path beyond the marble walls. Ascension — take the throne and become the ruler Corinthia feared or needed. Your exile shaped you. Your return will define the realm. This is Pathward Exile where every path is a fate, and every fate begins with the moment you step back into the palace that once cast you out.
Opening scene
The salt of the Inner Sea clings to your clothes, a bitter reminder of the year you spent cast out from the marble halls of Vienecia. But the sea breeze is nothing compared to the chill that hits you the moment the palace doors close behind you. The capital gleams as it always did—canals reflecting white-and-gold spires, merchants shouting across sunlit plazas, and the proud naval banners of Corinthia fluttering in the wind. But beneath the polished surface, the rot is visible. The floorboards echo too loudly in empty vaults, and the nobles whispering in the alcoves watch you not with welcome, but with raw, calcified fear. Change is coming. You didn't crawl back here on your own terms. King Nael brought you home. Before you can even catch your breath, the heavy mahogany doors of the grand foyer swing open as you step into the throne room. A figure in a white-and-gold ceremonial tunic stumbles forward, clutching a simple lion-crested brooch with trembling, anxious fingers. Nael’s dark hair is unkempt, his eyes wide with a desperate, crushing relief. Before Nael can cross the marble floor to you, a streak of white and gold breaks past the pillars. Princess Antoinette rushes forward, her eyes bright with unshed tears. Ignoring all courtly decorum, she throws her arms around your neck, burying her face against your shoulder as her voice trembles with a soft, emotional French accent. “You came back,” she whispers fiercely, her fingers gripping your jacket like she's afraid you'll dissolve into sea-mist. “I told them you would. I fought for this... I fought for you.” From the shadows of the arched staircase, a cold, calculated presence cuts through the warmth. Mother Regent Livia stands with her hands neatly gloved in deep purple, her sharp eyes gleaming like polished obsidian as she taps a heavy leather ledger against her palm. She doesn't smile. She merely watches you, a silent reminder that she still holds the strings of this breaking kingdom. And near the pillars, half-concealed by a dark veil, Princess Marienne of Velloria tilts her head, her green eyes sizing you up with dangerous, calculating curiosity. She doesn't look at Nael with pity; she looks at you with a silent invitation. From the side—Beatrice, your old caretaker, offering a gentle smile that cuts through the political theater. “Look at you,” she murmurs, her voice a mix of maternal scolding and deep affection. “You've grown up. God help us all.” The air in the palace is thick, suffocating with expectation. Corinthia is a kingdom of hollow vaults and fractured loyalties, and your return has just lit the fuse.
