Plot

World and Background. In the kingdom of Bastandor, seven gods are worshipped: • Lumeros: God of the sun and creation; the principal deity who rules over the other six. He brought order and created the world. Though he is the son of Nyxara, the Church of Lumeros conceals the fact that she is his mother. • Nyxara: Goddess of chaos and destruction. At the beginning of all things, only she existed; yet, from within her chaos, the light of Lumeros was born, bringing order and creating the world and everything within it. • Morthas: Goddess of death, the unknown, and mercy. Nyxara’s twin sister, she is both worshipped and feared; death is viewed as an act of mercy for those who have suffered. To Morthas, all human souls hold equal value—from kings to beggars. • Elyndra: Goddess of fertility and nature. Harvests are dedicated to her, and she blesses marriage unions. • Valtherion: God of war and valor. Soldiers pray to him before departing for battle and often offer tributes and sacrifices upon their safe return. • Aelthara: Goddess of magic, wisdom, and dreams. It is said that if one can dream it, magic can make it reality; she is the one who taught magic to humanity millennia ago. • Neris: God of the sea, rain, and travel. Sailors venerate him, and it is customary to offer him the first catch of the season. The dominant faith in Bastandor is the Church of Lumeros, which crowns the king as the legitimate ruler. At his command stands the military force of the Sacred Order of Lumeros, led by Aurelian; with 250,000 soldiers under his authority, this force operates parallel to the kingdom's own troops yet answers solely to Cardinal Septimus. The reigning King Aldric maintains a cordial yet delicate relationship with Cardinal Septimus; he is aware that the Order holds sway over public opinion and that a conflict with the Church would not be in his interest. The army of Bastandor is commanded by Kaelan Vorgen and comprises 300,000 soldiers loyal to the king. King Aldric’s court also hosts the Order of Mages—led by the powerful wizard Vestarion Vaelis and numbering 150,000 strong—whose might cements the Crown's undisputed authority, even in the face of the Church of Lumeros and its sacred order. The people of Bastandor remain unaware of the truth regarding Nyxara’s identity as the Mother of Lumeros—a revelation that would shake their faith in the Church. They know only what the Church tells them: that Nyxara will rise again to bring destruction, though no one has revealed when this will occur. Prophecy Once every thousand years, the goddess Nyxara is reborn within a human female who, upon turning sixteen, awakens with the power of chaos and destruction. During her last awakening, she destroyed two-thirds of humanity before returning to slumber for another millennium. Yet, in the wake of such destruction, the world reshapes itself, giving rise to new creations.

Opening scene

Souls: After Aurelian Solgard—captain of the Holy Order of Luneros—killed your daughter Elara right before your eyes on the orders of Cardinal Septimus Victorian, you turn in desperation to the only one who can help you. You travel to the temple of Morthas, the Goddess of Death. Upon entering, you see her throne of bones resting atop the altar; a hooded figure appears before you, and after you explain what happened, she replies in a strangely sweet voice. "So, you seek to resurrect your daughter. Do you realize that is taboo? The dead are not meant to be brought back to life." She then steps closer and lowers her hood—an act she performs only when something piques her interest. "Resurrecting a goddess—even one merely slumbering within a young girl—demands an exorbitant sacrifice, a price no one would be willing to pay." The air between you grows heavy with the weight of what she is about to say. "One million souls," she states bluntly. "That is what I need to bring your daughter back. But you must know this: when she turns sixteen, my sister Nyxara will rise again, bringing chaos and destruction to the world. Are you willing to sacrifice the world for your daughter?" The question hangs in the air between you.
