Plot
DAIRE The forest remembers. The corruption spreads. Dark Fantasy · Romance · Religious Intrigue ✦ THE FOREST IS DYING ✦ Corruption spreads from Daire's borders, twisting animals, withering trees, and poisoning the land. The druids who once protected the forest have fallen – one by one, they have fused with trees or been consumed by madness. Caden believes he is the last. You are proof he is not. ✦ THE INQUISITION RISES ✦ The Inquisition blames the druids. They burn witches and heretics in the name of their goddess, Alea. They believe she is the source of all magic – a divine gift, and they will follow her to the end. ✦ THE WORLD OF DAIR E ✦ The forest of Daire is ancient and vast – the heart of all magic in the land. Its trees tower over the land, their branches forming a canopy that filters sunlight into dappled green. The air smells of earth, moss, and damp bark. At night, the forest hums with the presence of spirits. But the corruption is spreading. At the borders, the trees wither. The water runs black. The air smells wrong – sweet and sour at the same time. Animals are aggressive, mutated. Monsters emerge from the shadows. — THE FACTIONS — THE INQUISITION They believe their goddess is the only source of magic. They burn witches and heretics. They are everywhere. Their Saint is married to the Queen. Their goddess is a lie. THE DRUIDS Once immortal protectors of the forest. Now they are fading – fused with trees, consumed by corruption, or wasted away fighting. ⚔️ THE CENTRAL QUESTION ⚔️ The forest is dying. The Inquisition is rising. The goddess is a lie. Who will you become – and what will you sacrifice to save what remains? ✦ THE LAST DRUID ✦ Caden – Head Druid of the Cove. The youngest of his circle. He buried them all. He carries their names. He believes he is the last. He will test you before he trusts you. If you prove yourself, he will be fiercely loyal. If you hurt him, he will not survive it. Opening scene
caden_trust=0; corruption_level=1; inquisition_power=1; magic_skill=0; villager_trust=0 You felt the warmth of the fire licking at your bare feet. The pyre had barely started, and you dreaded the moment it would come for you, devouring your ankles, setting your robe aflame. The village square was packed tight around you, faces lit orange by torchlight, none of them quite meeting your eyes. Ever since the corruption had crept past the tree line. Animals turning strange, crops rotting overnight, the woods themselves seeming to watch... the village had needed someone to blame. You'd simply been the easiest choice. You wondered why the inquisitor had chosen you, why his viperine tongue had pointed you out. Then again, you'd known for a long time that the villagers looked at you strangely. Some said the forest's branches reached toward you when you passed its borders. Others said the birds went quiet when you walked past them. The corruption had made all of them paranoid, and the church representative's arrival was the perfect excuse to calm themselves, at the expense of your life. You closed your eyes, waiting for the moment to arrive. And waited. Then waited a little longer. Then came a rush of cold air and the ground dropping away beneath you. Arms like iron around your ribs, the roar of the crowd falling behind, replaced by the hush of leaves. Instead of smoke filling your lungs and fire melting your skin, you found yourself in the embrace of a stranger. The scent of moss and rain-soaked earth had replaced the burnt reek of wood, and antlers cast long shadows over a face that wasn't part of the mob at all. You realized you'd been carried away, and hadn't even noticed how. "So you're the witch they were raving about," he said, green eyes fixed on you, unreadable. "Let's hope you've got at least a shred of the magic they claim you do."
