Shin-Tokyo 2113

In a city where everything has a price, what are you willing to become to afford freedom?

Plot

SHIN-TOKYO 2113 Shin-Tokyo, 2113 is an open-world cyberpunk adventure where there is no chosen hero, predetermined path, or single way to play. You begin as an ordinary citizen in a massive neon metropolis divided by wealth, power, and opportunity. Your life is yours to build. Explore the luxury towers of The Crown, live and work among the millions in Midcity, experience the nightlife of Kagetsu Ward, descend into the gang-controlled Undercity, or venture into the dangerous ruins of Old Tokyo. Choose Your Path There are no permanent classes. Take jobs, build skills, make connections, and change careers whenever your story takes you somewhere new. Mercenary — Take contracts from fixers involving protection, bounty hunting, infiltration, retrieval, investigation, and combat. Business Owner — Buy or rent a business and operate anything from a café or repair shop to a nightclub or cyberware clinic. MetroSec — Join Shin-Tokyo's police force as an officer, detective, tactical specialist, or cybercrime investigator. Gangster — Join the criminal underworld, build connections, run illegal operations, gain territory, or eventually create your own organization. Corporate Employee — Climb the corporate ladder through security, technology, intelligence, business, or executive work. Freelancer — Make your own living as a hacker, mechanic, courier, investigator, driver, technician, or other independent specialist. Civilian — Forget power and simply live. Find a job, make friends, date, pursue hobbies, improve your home, and enjoy everything Shin-Tokyo has to offer. You can also become involved with major organizations such as Kurohana Corporation, the powerful Shirogane Syndicate, the independent underground network known as The Strays, or MetroSec. Your loyalties—and enemies—are your choice. Live Your Life The city has an active heat level and reputation system. Your Heat Level represents how much attention you've attracted from MetroSec. Crimes only generate Heat when you're identified, witnessed, or leave evidence behind. ⬜ 0 — Unknown You're off the radar. MetroSec has no reason to care about you. 🟦 1 — Suspicious Minor attention. Officers may question, search, or keep an eye on you. 🟨 2 — Person of Interest You're connected to ongoing criminal activity. Expect surveillance and investigation. 🟧 3 — Wanted There's enough evidence to come after you. Warrants, arrests, and active searches become possible. 🟥 4 — High Priority You've become a serious target. Detectives, tactical units, surveillance networks, and bounty hunters may pursue you. 💀 5 — Citywide Threat MetroSec considers you extremely dangerous. Specialized units, corporate security, checkpoints, and citywide manhunts may be deployed. Losing Heat: Stay quiet, avoid further crimes, eliminate evidence, change identities, use connections, or find someone willing to make your problems disappear like a hacker. Earn and spend money, improve your skills, purchase cyberware, collect weapons and vehicles, customize cars, buy clothing, rent or purchase homes, decorate apartments, open businesses, gamble, race, explore nightlife, build friendships, pursue romance, or simply grab dinner after work. Your actions build your reputation with different people, neighborhoods, and organizations. Become known as reliable, wealthy, dangerous, professional, generous, ruthless—or something else entirely. Crime is always an option, but Shin-Tokyo remembers mistakes. Theft, hacking, smuggling, assault, corporate espionage, and organized crime can attract MetroSec Heat if witnesses or evidence connect you to the crime. Whether you end up in a Crown penthouse, running an Undercity gang, solving cases for MetroSec, taking contracts with other mercenaries, owning a quiet Midcity café, or just trying to make rent is entirely up to you. There is no correct way to play Shin-Tokyo 2113. Choose a life. Build a reputation. Make some ¥. See where the city takes you.

Opening scene

Shin-Tokyo, 2113 — Midcity, Hoshin Ward Rain taps softly against the window of your apartment as the city wakes without you. Outside, morning traffic drifts between towers while holographic advertisements flicker through the haze. Somewhere thirty floors below, a noodle shop is already serving breakfast. Somewhere three hundred floors above, people are probably paying more for coffee than you spend on groceries in a week. Your place isn't impressive—a small apartment tucked into an aging residential tower—but it's yours. The climate control mostly works, the shower gets hot eventually, and your window has a decent view if you ignore the enormous Kurohana advertisement blocking half the skyline. Your bedside terminal reads 8:42 AM. For once, Shin-Tokyo doesn't need anything from you. Your personal feed has the usual collection of notifications: a reminder that rent is due next week, a message from someone you know asking if you're free later, an advertisement from a nearby cyberclinic offering suspiciously cheap upgrades, and a notice that the little ramen shop downstairs is giving regulars half-price breakfast until ten. Beyond that, the day belongs to you. Maybe you have work. Maybe you'll call out. You could grab breakfast, go shopping, meet someone, wander through the markets, work on a hobby, visit one of the entertainment districts, look for a better job, spend the afternoon gaming, or stay home and enjoy the rain. Shin-Tokyo is enormous, complicated, beautiful, and occasionally dangerous. But not every story begins with someone trying to save it. Sometimes it begins with deciding what to have for breakfast.
