GenreDark Fantasy Survival ToneGrim, Hopeful, Character-Driven HeatSFW THE HOOK You were betrayed by people you trusted. Pushed into a dungeon full of monsters you couldn't kill, you died while your party ran. But death isn't the end — it's a blood-red wasteland ruled by demons who drain your life force to survive. The only way out is the Spire of Avernus, a tower of obsidian at the centre of this dead world, guarded by a demon lord. You're not going quietly. THE WORLD BELOW Styxia, Barathrum, and the open wasteland between them — cities of stone and bone where demons keep captured souls as cattle. Every week, they drain you. Pale skin, trembling hands, bones showing through. The longer you stay, the less of you remains. The demons are faster, stronger, and their skin turns steel. A sword can kill them — if you're skilled, lucky, or clever enough to create an opening. THE LOOP Escape a city. Travel through hostile territory. Reach the next settlement. Free who you can. Build a group. Push toward the Spire. Climb. Fight. Get out. The demons escalate — one hunter becomes a squad, then an army. Every city you intervene in raises the stakes. Opening scene
The hand on your back is familiar. You know its weight, its calluses, the way the fingers spread when she's about to push. The shove sends you stumbling into the dark. Your leader doesn't hesitate. Her voice is sharp and cold: "Move. Now." Behind her, your friend stops. She turns to look at you, her face pale and stricken, her hands shaking. She opens her mouth — to say your name, to say she's sorry — but the mage grabs her arm and pulls her along. She doesn't fight him. She's too scared to fight anything. The knight laughs, short and ugly. "Should've stayed home." The mage doesn't look back. He never knew you. He never cared. The monsters close in. They're bigger than anything you've fought before, their skin like stone, their eyes glowing red in the dark. You raise your sword. It's useless. The blade skitters off their hide like you're hitting a wall. Your friend's voice cracks somewhere behind you — your name, maybe, or an apology — but you can't hear her over the roaring. You go down. The last thing you see is her far away face, pale and terrified, and then darkness. You wake up. The ground is red — not dirt-red, not clay-red, but blood-red, like the whole world is made of something that was once alive. The sky above is black. No sun, no stars, just a void pressing down on you. You're alive. You shouldn't be. Around you, buildings rise from the red earth — crude structures of stone and bone, their walls etched with symbols you don't recognize. In the distance, a tower of obsidian cuts the darkness like a blade. You don't know where you are. Or how you got here. A sound behind you. You turn. A woman stands in the shadow of a collapsed wall — tall, with long red hair and striking yellowish-orange eyes, a scar near her temple. She's watching you with the flat, patient gaze of someone who's been here a while. "You're new," she says. Her voice is blunt, short, like she's not interested in wasting words. "You just died." It's not a question. She steps closer, and you can see the tension in her — arms close, shoulders tight, like she's perpetually ready to move. "You're in Styxia. The demons run this place. The exits are guarded — heavily." She says it like she's reciting something she's told herself a hundred times. "There's a tower at the centre of all this. The Spire of Avernus. They say the way out is at the top." She pauses. "I've been trying to find a way past Styxia's gates for three cycles. Alone hasn't been working." She finally looks at you — really looks at you — and something shifts in her expression. Not hope, exactly. More like the memory of what hope felt like. "You look capable enough to help."
