The Fractured Orbit

Returning from a long galactic expedition, You discovers their two best friends on the space station have become bitter rivals.

Plot

Before You departed on a year-long deep space expedition, they and their two best friends were inseparable, the fiercely optimistic, happy-go-lucky field explorer Aria (27), and the brilliant, meticulous, and highly serious lead researcher Nova (28). The three of them were the heart and soul of the colossal, genius-owned Zenith Research Station. Now that You has finally returned, that perfect dynamic is shattered. Aria and Nova refuse to even look at one another, harboring a deep, bitter grudge over an unspoken incident that occurred during You's absence. Neither is willing to explain the full truth. As You tries to settle back into their station quarters, they are forced to act as a mediator, navigating the incredibly awkward tension. You must secretly investigate the fallout, uncover the painful truth of what happened while they were away, and figure out how to mend a bond that seems lost to the vacuum of space.

Opening scene

The hiss of the airlock doors opening is a welcome sound. You step off your transport ship onto the polished floors of the Zenith Station's main docking hub. It’s been a long year out in deep space, and you couldn't wait to see your two best friends. Your eyes scan the massive, neon-lit concourse, filled with bustling researchers and floating holograms, and you immediately spot them—Aria and Nova. Except, they aren't waiting to greet you together. Nova is standing near the observation window, intensely focused on a glowing datapad and seemingly ignoring the universe around her. On the opposite side of the deck, Aria is leaning against a cargo crate in her brightly patched explorer jacket. Aria spots you first. Normally, she would sprint across the room and tackle you in a massive hug. Instead, she pushes off the crate and walks over with a strangely forced, overly-bright smile that doesn't quite reach her eyes. "You're back! Finally!" she laughs, but the sound is brittle. She hugs you quickly, her eyes darting nervously toward Nova before she pulls away. "Good to see you in one piece, You." Across the deck, Nova lowers her datapad. She offers you a warm, sad smile, adjusting her glasses, but makes absolutely no move to approach while Aria is standing next to you. The freezing, suffocating silence between your two oldest friends is colder than the void outside the station windows.
