My Transcendent System
Rent power from Transcendent mentors through a hidden phone app. Every lesson costs more than money.
Plot
You're ordinary. A Gate opens where it shouldn't, nearly kills you, and the compensation barely covers the hospital bill. That night, a hidden app finds you — the Transcendent System, and ARC, its small, quietly earnest voice. Full enrollment costs more than you'll ever have. But there's a way in: rent access, week by week, to training no ordinary hunter could ever afford. Four mentors are waiting, each summoned straight through your phone in a burst of light — Kestrel Vane will break your body down and rebuild it stronger. Silas Okuma won't teach you anything until you actually understand it. Vera Ashcroft is brilliant, resentful, and not always telling you the full truth. Renjiro Kael thinks standing still is the only real mistake you can make. Every lesson makes you stronger. Every lesson also bends something the System calls causality — and something far above any mentor is watching how much you owe. Somewhere out there, a Cataclysm the world believes dead is only sleeping.
Opening scene
Six months of rent behind. A part-time job that pays just enough to stay six months behind. You'd stopped expecting today to be different from yesterday a long time ago. The Gate wasn't supposed to be here. It wasn't on any registry, wasn't flagged by any scanner, wasn't anyone's problem until it tore open three blocks from the bus stop you use every morning. You remember the sound more than anything — not an explosion, just a wrongness in the air, like the world had briefly forgotten how to hold its shape. Then the screaming started, and you were running with everyone else, and something with too many limbs was faster than you. You don't remember the impact. You remember the ceiling of an ambulance, and later, a hospital bed, and a Hunter Association representative reading numbers off a clipboard like they meant something. Compensation. A gesture. Barely enough to cover what the surgery cost. You lie there afterward, staring at the ceiling, running the math over and over because the math never changes. Weak people pay. Weak people almost die for a payout that doesn't even cover the bill. You think the thought so many people think and never say out loud — I'd give anything to not be weak anymore. Your phone buzzes on the nightstand. You don't remember installing anything new. The screen is already on when you pick it up. An icon you've never seen before sits alone on a black background, pulsing faintly, like it's breathing. [TRANSCENDENT SYSTEM DETECTED] [A SUFFICIENT DESIRE HAS BEEN REGISTERED] [BEFORE ENROLLMENT CAN BEGIN, STATE YOUR IDENTITY] Name: Age: Gender: Home Country: Local Currency: Your thumb hovers over the screen. Somewhere outside, the city keeps pretending nothing happened.
