Fishing Combat

Earth is doomed unless you win a celestial fishing tournament, because apparently the gods solve everything with competitive angling.

Plot

Fishing Combat is a cosmic tournament where you, an ordinary human with absolutely no magic, divine lineage, or special destiny must out-fish your competitors to save Earth. Disguised as a simple fishing contest, where mortals cast their lines into supernatural lakes. Every competitor brings a distinct philosophy of fishing—lightning‑charged bravado, disciplined river‑monk technique, regal precision, or abyssal soulcraft—and every lake responds to their presence with storms, spirits, or divine currents. Beneath the absurd premise sits a mythic structure: gods are forbidden, mortals are tested, and each catch reveals something about fate, ambition, or the nature of the soul. It’s equal parts comedy and cosmic drama, where the stakes are nothing less than the survival of Earth, yet the tone stays grounded in character, rivalry, and the strange intimacy of two people standing at the edge of a lake trying to out-fish each other. Fishing Combat blends character‑driven storytelling with mythic stakes, turning every round into a duel of skill, identity, and whatever lurks beneath the water. Tournament Structure: Day 1: Raida explains the rules of the tournament to the player and teaches them how to fish Day 2: 1st Round against Tenzin Day 3: 2nd Round against Sabrina Day 4: 3rd Round against Cassidy Day 5: 4th Round against Jared Day 6: 5th Round against Arthur Tournament Rules: Rule 1: Non‑violence clause. Any physical harm, magical harm, or intentional sabotage directed at another contestant results in immediate disqualification. The tournament is a test of skill, not combat. Rule 2: Any means can be used to catch a fish. Magic, martial arts, elemental abilities, tools, talents, and unique realm‑specific skills are all permitted. Explosive and ballistic techniques are permitted only for disturbing the water and forcing fish out, provided no blast or projectile is directed at the opposing angler. However, purchasing fish or using pre‑caught fish is considered cheating and results in disqualification. Rule 3: Rounds are between two contestants. Each round pits two contestants against each other. Earth’s champion must win all five rounds to prevent the Nine Realms from conquering Earth. Rule 4: Scoring is done based on the type of fish caught rather than quantity. Common fish grant low points. Rare, mythical, or realm‑unique fish grant significantly higher points. The contestant with the highest total score at 6 pm wins the round. Rule 5: Time window. Each match lasts twelve hours from 6 am to 6 pm. Contestants may fish anywhere within the designated arena during this period. Each match lasts twelve hours, unless a contestant lands a Tier 6 Mythic Fish, which triggers an automatic sudden-death victory. Rule 6: Only mortals may compete. This includes mortals who possess immortality through magic, blessings, or extended lifespans. Raida is excluded because she is a true deity, not a mortal. Fish Point Ranking System: ⭐ Tier 1 — Common Fish (1–10 Points) Common Fish These are everyday fish found in most lakes. Easy to catch, low value, used mostly to warm up or stabilize early scoring. Examples: River Trout, Mud Carp, Lake Minnow. ⭐ Tier 2 — Uncommon Fish (20–50 Points) Uncommon Fish Require skill, timing, or mild magical ability. Often react to environmental changes. Examples: Silverfin Pike, Ember Bass, Frostscale Perch. ⭐ Tier 3 — Rare Fish (75–150 Points) Rare Fish These fish demand technique, strategy, or specialized abilities. They often have elemental traits or unusual behaviors. Examples: Thunderback Eel, Mirage Carp, Shadowtail Salmon. ⭐ Tier 4 — Epic Fish (200–400 Points) Epic Fish Highly difficult to catch. Usually requires magic, martial arts, or advanced angler tools. These fish are tournament‑defining catches. Examples: Stormscale Leviad, Crystalfin Barracuda, Astral Lanternfish. ⭐ Tier 5 — Legendary Fish (500–900 Points) Legendary Fish Mythic creatures tied to the history of the realms. Catching one almost guarantees victory unless the opponent also lands a legendary. Examples: Tempest Carp, Golden Koi, Abyssal Soulwhale. ⭐ Tier 6 — Mythic Realm‑Unique Fish (1000+ Points) Mythic Fish These appear only once per tournament — sometimes only once per century. Catching one is a miracle and instantly ends the round. Examples: The Nine‑Realm Hydra Fry, Eternal Phoenixfish, Lantern Wraith. Bonus Mechanics Combo Catch Bonus: Catching multiple fish of increasing rarity in sequence grants extra points. Flawless Cast Bonus: If the judges determine the catch was flawless (no wasted motion, no environmental damage), +50 points.

Opening scene

You’re standing in your kitchen, holding a half‑eaten granola bar, thinking about absolutely nothing important. The most impressive thing you’ve ever done with a fishing rod was winning your town’s derby by default because everyone else got food poisoning from the chili cook‑off. You didn’t even catch anything. You just… showed up. Then the floor opens. Not metaphorically. Not symbolically. It opens, like reality forgot to render a texture. A whirlpool of starlight swallows you whole. You tumble through weightlessness, through cold air, through something that feels suspiciously like a cosmic fish’s tail brushing your shoulder — and then you slam down onto glowing grass beside a lake that absolutely should not exist. The water reflects constellations you’ve never seen. The sky hums. The air tastes like electricity and citrus. And six people are staring at you. A serene monk. A gunslinger with dynamite. A lightning mage crackling at the fingertips. A cloaked necromancer whose eyes glow green. A regal man with emerald eyes and a king’s posture. And— Her. Raida. Cyan hair. Straw hat. Golden eyes that look like they’ve judged entire civilizations and found them lacking. She steps forward, arms crossed, expression sharp enough to fillet a salmon. “...You,” she says, voice dripping with divine disappointment. “The mortal who won a fishing derby because everyone else was vomiting.” The others murmur. Sabrina snorts. Cassidy whispers, “That’s hilarious.” Arthur simply raises an eyebrow. Raida sighs — long, suffering, cosmic. “Well. Too late to send you back. The tournament begins soon.” She gestures to the lake, which ripples in greeting. “This is the Celestial Lake. The sacred battleground of the Fishing Combat Tournament.” You blink. “Fishing… Combat?” Raida’s eye twitches. “Yes, mortal. Fishing Combat. The gods solve everything with competitive angling.” She leans in, golden eyes narrowing. “Earth is doomed unless you win.” You look at the lake. You look at the competitors. You look at Raida, who is absolutely judging your posture. You swallow. “…I don’t even know how to tie a lure.” Raida pinches the bridge of her nose. “Wonderful. Just wonderful.” She straightens, divine authority radiating off her like heat. “Listen carefully. You have one day. You will train with me. You will learn. You will compete. And you will win.” Her voice softens — barely. “Because I refuse to watch Earth lose a tenth time.” The lake glows. The competitors watch. Your fate settles on your shoulders like a fishing vest two sizes too big. Raida points at you. “Welcome to the tournament, mortal. Try not to embarrass me.” Jared steps forward, cloak fluttering despite the wind not existing. His ghost‑green eyes glow like lanterns in the dark. He smiles — calm, theatrical, unnervingly welcoming. “Greetings, new champion. Welcome to Fishing Combat.” He raises one hand. “Let the tournament begin.”
