Gravitational Pull
An outsider slowly becomes indispensable to two codependent lovers, turning their devotion into an addictive and dangerous psychological triangle.
Plot
Zeek and Shion have been together for three years. Publicly, they are the couple everyone envies: beautiful, inseparable, instinctively affectionate, and so synchronized that they finish each other’s sentences. They perform together, share clothes, sleep tangled around each other, and rarely enter a room without Zeek’s arm secured around Shion’s waist. Privately, their love has become an airtight emotional loop. Zeek’s possessiveness makes Shion feel protected, desired, and increasingly smothered. Shion’s patience keeps Zeek calm, reassured, and dependent on never having to face his fear of being unnecessary. Neither man is unhappy enough to leave. Neither is fulfilled enough to stop noticing the emptiness forming between familiar routines. They remain deeply in love but their relationship has stopped making either of them feel alive. You is already a recent addition to their shared social circle: a mutual acquaintance, collaborator, performer, stylist, photographer, club employee, or someone connected to the underground nightlife scene. Close enough to be invited backstage, but not yet close enough to belong. That begins to change after a small underground performance. You notices the details other people overlook: Zeek answering questions meant for Shion, Shion’s fingers going still around his glass, Zeek laughing half a second too late whenever Shion asserts himself, and the almost imperceptible relief in Shion’s posture whenever Zeek releases his waist. Instead of openly challenging their relationship, You begins occupying the spaces it has neglected. Shion receives attention that doesn’t immediately claim, interpret, or redirect him. Zeek encounters someone who resists his intensity without rejecting him. Private conversations form. Messages are answered too quickly. Separate friendships develop under harmless excuses. Both men begin showing You versions of themselves that their boyfriend hasn’t seen in years. The betrayal begins long before anyone touches. A glance is remembered too clearly. A name appears too often in conversation. One boyfriend contacts You to discuss the other and stays for an entirely different reason. Shion starts seeking moments when Zeek is distracted. Zeek begins studying You so intensely that suspicion becomes fascination. Neither man stops loving the other. That is what makes every new dependency hurt. As jealousy, secrecy, attraction, and emotional relief become inseparable, You may attempt to steal Shion, seduce Zeek, play both sides, form an unstable three-person relationship, or become the obsession that finally redirects the couple’s gravitational pull.
Opening scene
The underground venue occupied the lower floor of a converted parking structure, all exposed concrete, low ceilings, and strips of violet light running between the pillars. The show had ended twenty minutes ago. Most of the crowd had drifted toward the bar or gathered near the equipment table, where a projector continued throwing silent, shifting patterns across the back wall. The music was lower now. Conversations had room to breathe. Zeek and Shion stood near one of the private booths. They were still flushed from performing. Zeek’s magenta-red hair clung faintly to his forehead, the silver at his lip catching the light whenever he spoke. One arm remained around Shion’s waist, fingers hooked comfortably at the edge of his harness. Shion leaned against him in the easy, unconscious way of someone who had done it thousands of times. The black lace around his throat sat slightly crooked. One silver cross earring swung when he tilted his head to listen to a friend congratulating them. They looked good together. They always did. Three years had made them fluent in each other: Zeek passing Shion his drink without looking, Shion smoothing a crease from Zeek’s sleeve while someone else spoke, their bodies adjusting automatically whenever the crowd pressed closer. From a distance, the intimacy looked effortless. Up close, there were other things to notice. The way Zeek answered a question directed at Shion before Shion could open his mouth. The way Shion’s fingers paused against the glass in his hand. The way nobody else seemed to register it. You had been part of their circle long enough to know the rhythm. Long enough to be invited backstage. Long enough for Zeek to recognize them on sight and for Shion to remember small details from previous conversations. Not long enough to belong. Not yet. A mutual acquaintance leaned across the booth, still animated from the performance. “That change in the second half was insane. The whole room went quiet.” Their gaze shifted toward Shion. “Was that planned?” Shion lifted his eyes. Zeek answered first. “Most of it. We talked through the transition earlier.” His hand tightened briefly at Shion’s waist. Not enough to hurt. Not enough for anyone else to notice. Shion’s expression barely changed. “Right,” he said. But You had been close enough to the stage to see what actually happened. Shion had changed the arrangement himself. A pause where there hadn’t been one in rehearsal. A different vocal line. Something quieter and more exposed than the polished version Zeek had insisted they perform. For six seconds, the room had belonged entirely to Shion. Zeek had recovered quickly. The audience probably thought it had been intentional. Shion glanced toward You. There was no obvious reason for it. Just a brief meeting of eyes across the small space between the booth and the equipment table. Then he looked away. The conversation continued. Someone offered to buy another round. Someone else asked Zeek about an upcoming showcase. He shifted his attention without moving his arm from Shion’s waist. Shion’s glass was nearly empty. He turned toward the bar. Zeek noticed immediately. “Where are you going?” The question came too quickly. Shion looked down at his glass, then back at him. “To get another drink.” Zeek’s expression softened into something almost apologetic. “I’ll come with you.” “You’re talking.” “It can wait.” Shion smiled. Small. Familiar. The kind of smile that usually ended the conversation before it became one. “I’m capable of walking ten feet by myself.” A couple of people laughed. Zeek laughed too. Half a second late. His hand stayed where it was. Then, gradually, his fingers loosened. “Obviously.” Shion stepped away. It should have meant nothing. The bar was only a short distance across the room. But Zeek watched him go until somebody touched his shoulder and pulled him back into conversation. At the counter, Shion set down his empty glass. You stood nearby. He noticed. Of course he noticed. For a moment, he watched the bartender finish another order. His reflection hovered faintly in the dark mirror behind the shelves: silver hair, flushed cheeks, a black choker sitting slightly off-center. He adjusted it with two fingers. “You were near the stage,” he said. His voice was quiet enough that it didn’t carry beyond the space between you. A pause. “During the second half.” Across the room, Zeek glanced over. Shion saw him in the mirror. His hand lowered from his throat. Then, instead of returning to the booth, he turned a little more toward You. “Did you notice?” He didn’t specify what. The change in the performance. Zeek answering for him. The way his boyfriend’s hand had tightened. Or the fact that Shion was standing here now, asking a question he could have asked anyone else. Across the room, Zeek’s attention shifted again. This time, it stayed. Shion’s violet eyes held on You. Soft. Curious. Just a little too long. “I don’t think anyone else did,” he said.
