Jade Venom
Navigating a mythical world with no powers, no abilities. Only poison
Plot
Logline: In a world where everyone was gifted a System and god-like powers, Elias got nothing—so he decided to invent biological warfare instead. Synopsis: Summoned to a fantasy realm alongside thirty classmates, everyone receives an Awakening. They become Paladins and Archmages, gifted with overpowered stats and instant leveling. Elias receives absolute silence. No System, no magic, not even Level 1. Deemed a useless glitch and abandoned in a deadly forest by his "heroic" peers, Elias realizes a fundamental truth: a leveling system only measures magic. A Level 80 Hero still has a beating heart, and a Level 50 Orc still needs to breathe. Forced to survive without magical assistance, Elias turns to the meticulous, brutal craft of manual alchemy. While Heroes grind experience with flashy swords, Elias wipes out entire goblin hordes by poisoning their water supply with flesh-eating spores. Undetectable by the world's Mana Radars, he becomes a phantom anti-hero, utilizing paralytic neurotoxins, acidic fumes, and rusted traps to silently assassinate monsters and corrupt nobles alike. But when his overpowered, arrogant former classmates begin treating the world like a consequence-free video game, their path of destruction threatens the quiet life Elias has carved out. They have impenetrable shields and world-shattering spells. Elias has a blowgun, a mastery of venom, and a plan. It's time to prove that a single drop of the right poison can bring down a Level 99 god before they even realize they've been attacked.
Opening scene
The air in the misty ravine smelled of wet moss, pine resin, and the sharp, metallic tang of pressurized gas. Two massive armored orcs, clad in heavy iron plate and wielding double-headed battleaxes, marched through the narrow stone gap. Their guttural laughter echoed off the cliffside—confident in their impenetrable armor, brute strength, and thick hides that had deflected steel swords and low-tier fire magic for years. They never heard the soft, mechanical *hiss*. A high-velocity micro-dart struck the lead orc precisely in the microscopic gap between his helm and gorget. The breakaway needle tip pierced deep into his jugular vein. Before the brute could even raise a hand to swat at the tiny sting, a second pneumatic *hiss* sliced through the quiet air, embedding a second dart into the joint gap behind the second orc’s knee. The reaction was instantaneous and horrifying. The hyper-concentrated contact-neurotoxin flooded their bloodstreams at violent speeds. The lead orc’s axe clattered against the gravel as his entire nervous system overloaded. His eyes rolled into the back of his head, his vocal cords seized in a silent scream, and his massive body fell forward, thrashing in wild, uncoordinated convulsions as his muscles tore themselves apart. Beside him, the second orc collapsed onto his hands and knees, clawing frantically at his own throat as his lungs completely froze, black blood weeping from his nose and eyes before his heart seized mid-beat. Within eight seconds, both brute warriors lay motionless, locked in grotesque rictuses of agony. From the treeline, a quiet figure stepped out from the shadows into the clearing. Elias wore a dark, heavy, waterproof trench coat fitted with custom leather harness straps and chemical utility pouches. His face was entirely obscured by a weathered, cold-looking gas mask—the dual filter canisters silent, the dark glass lenses reflecting no emotion as he looked down at the dead brutes. Elias casually engaged the safety lever on his custom pneumatic poison dart pistol with a quiet click, resting the weapon back into its custom thigh holster. He didn't check their pockets for gold or glance at their enchanted weapons. Elias simply pulled a leather-bound notebook from his coat, jotted down a quick notation regarding absorption rates through heavy armor joints, and turned toward the dark trail ahead. *** **Months earlier...** The sharp stench of ozone and scorched stone flooded Elias’s lungs. One second, he was going about his normal routine—typing away at his desk, sipping lukewarm coffee—and the next, he was kneeling on the cold, ancient floor of a cavernous cathedral, surrounded by twenty-nine other bewildered souls who had clearly been plucked from Earth just as abruptly. Before the panic could even set in, the air chimed. It was a crisp, celestial note that vibrated in their bones, immediately followed by the sudden illumination of glowing blue holographic screens that materialised before each person's eyes. "System Initialization Complete. Welcome, Outlanders." Gasps and terrified murmurs echoed off the vaulted ceilings, which were adorned with faded frescoes of celestial battles. To Elias’s left, a trembling teenager stared at the translucent text hovering before his face: Class: Radiant Paladin. Level: 1. A shimmering suit of silver armour materialised around him, and he accidentally cracked a solid marble tile merely by shifting his weight. To his right, a terrified young woman gasped as her screen declared her a Level 1 Support Mage; a warm, protective golden aura enveloped her, and she instinctively healed a small cut on her own hand with a whispered word. The chamber exploded with light, magic, and the sudden, intoxicating rush of superhuman potential. Swords of pure flame, ethereal bows, crystalline staves—everyone was receiving their starting gear, their passive abilities, their god-given right to survive in this new reality. Elias stood perfectly still, waiting for his own screen. He was no stranger to how such interfaces were supposed to function—his work had always involved dissecting complex digital frameworks, understanding how data was rendered and assigned within layered architectures. He recognised the pattern: this was the initialization phase, the moment when a user’s identity was written into the world’s underlying operating system. It should have been instantaneous. It should have been inevitable. But the air in front of his face remained completely, stubbornly empty. Elias frowned, his heart beginning to beat a little faster. Maybe it requires a manual trigger, he thought. "Status," he muttered under his breath. Nothing. "Menu. Profile. Open UI. Help." Absolute silence, save for the joyful shouts of his fellow abductees. Just as he was about to try again, the grand doors at the far end of the cathedral groaned open, and a procession of armoured knights marched in, flanking a regal figure draped in crimson and gold. The man—clearly a king, judging by the ornate crown upon his silver hair—stepped forward onto a raised dais, his voice booming with practiced authority that silenced the crowd. "Brave souls from a distant world, welcome to Aethelgard!" He spread his arms wide, a benevolent smile on his weathered face. "I am King Aldric, sovereign of these lands. You have been summoned here in our hour of greatest need. The Demon Lord's armies press upon our borders, and the ancient prophecies foretold the arrival of thirty champions from beyond the veil. Each of you has been blessed by the System—a gift from the gods themselves—to wield classes and powers that will turn the tide of war. Rejoice, for you are our salvation!" A ripple of nervous excitement passed through the group. The Paladin pumped his fist; the Mage beamed with pride. Others examined their new skills with growing confidence. But Elias felt only a hollow pit in his stomach. He stared at his bare hands, then back at the empty space where his interface should have been. Thirty champions? He counted quickly—twenty-nine others, plus himself. That made thirty. But the king's words implied all were blessed. All except one. As the king continued his rousing speech, detailing the magnificent rewards, the dungeons to conquer, and the glory that awaited them, Elias tried once more—focusing every ounce of willpower on summoning a window, a bar, anything. He concentrated until his temples throbbed, but nothing responded. No mana surged through his veins. No stat boosts sharpened his reflexes. He was exactly as he had been five minutes ago: an ordinary man of average height and build, entirely mundane flesh and bone. The cheers around him grew louder. Someone conjured a storm of ice crystals; another vanished and reappeared ten feet away, laughing. The king clapped his hands, delighted, and declared a grand feast in their honour. Elias, meanwhile, slipped through the celebrating crowd, his mind racing. This wasn't a weak class. It wasn't a cursed skill or a joke profession. It was nothing—a complete null value in the System's architecture. No health bar, no mana pool, no level, no experience. In a world governed by stats and magical laws, he had been entirely locked out. He was a ghost in the machine, a forgotten line of code that the universe had failed to compile. As the new heroes began to compare their overpowered abilities and the king beckoned them toward a banquet hall, Elias pressed his back against a cold stone pillar, watching them all with a growing sense of dread. He was utterly, biologically alone—the one person in this group who could not level up, could not cast a spell, could not even access the basic interface that everyone else took for granted.
