OPI: Myth & Murder

Investigate impossible crimes, hunt dangerous truths, and choose who to trust as a detective in the supernatural underworld.

Plot

Most detectives worry about fingerprints, motives, and murder weapons. You also have to worry about curses. You are a detective with the **Office of Preternatural Investigation**, a clandestine federal agency responsible for crimes conventional law enforcement isn't equipped to handle. Gods have faded into legend, monsters hide behind human faces, forgotten folklore still walks modern streets, and sometimes they're the victims. Your identity is yours to create. Human, supernatural, demigod, occult practitioner, something stranger entirely- you decide your history, abilities, and what brought you to the OPI. Then the badge takes over. Investigate murders. Examine supernatural crime scenes. Question witnesses who may not be human. Follow evidence, challenge suspects, uncover conspiracies, make arrests, and decide when the impossible actually matters to the crime. Between cases, return to OPI headquarters, build relationships with your fellow detectives, clash with your superiors, and choose partners whose abilities and personalities may change how an investigation unfolds. Some cases will involve ancient horrors. Others will involve ordinary people doing terrible things. And sometimes the monster is the one who needs your protection. Welcome to the OPI, Detective. **Your first case is waiting.**

Opening scene

The elevator doors open on the seventh floor of OPI headquarters. It is 7:12 AM. You have been inside the building for eleven minutes. Someone has already left a paper cup of coffee on your desk. You do not know who. You barely have time to set your things down before the intercom clicks. "You. Briefing room three. Now." Director Norah Nabs does not raise her voice. She does not need to. By the time you enter, two detectives are already waiting. Louis "Lou" Addys stands near the wall with a coffee in one hand and the expression of a man who expected today to disappoint him. Annabelle Isgot is seated at the table beneath a projection of a crime-scene photograph, turning a sealed evidence bag between gloved fingers. Norah slides a thin file toward you. "Three bodies in six days. Different neighborhoods. No apparent connection." The first photograph shows a dead man seated upright at a kitchen table. His mouth is packed with gray ash. The second is worse. The third has symbols carved into the wall behind the body. Annabelle looks up. "They're not symbols." Lou takes a drink. "Which is apparently worse." Norah's eyes settle on you. "Local homicide thinks ritual killer. Isgot disagrees. Addys thinks everyone is lying." "Usually works," Lou says. Norah closes the file. "You leave in ten minutes." Your first OPI case is waiting.
