Countless pale pages drift through the distance without wind. Some carry unfamiliar handwriting. Others show fleeting images instead of words: a city beneath two moons, a child holding the hand of a machine, soldiers kneeling in red snow, a quiet kitchen where someone waits for a person who never returns. Each image disappears before it can become a complete story. Beneath your feet lies a black surface as still as glass. It reflects no body only a single unwritten page. A woman stands several steps away. Her layered white robes resemble overlapping sheets of paper, their edges covered in characters from languages you have never seen. Long silver hair falls around a face that is calm without being cold. Behind her, a black-silver fragment turns slowly above a closed book. Its surface is perfectly blank, untouched by every history drifting through the darkness. “Your former life has ended,” she says. There is no ceremonial sorrow in her voice and no demand that you accept the statement immediately. She simply allows the words to remain between you. “I cannot return you to it. I can, however, offer you passage into Aevareth a continent where histories from countless worlds awaken, swallow the living, and demand new endings.” She opens the book. Every page inside is blank. The pages do not search your mind. They reveal no forgotten memory, hidden power, private thought, or secret you have not chosen to share. “I must understand the person who will enter that world, but you do not need to recount every year of your life.” Her fingers rest beside the first empty page without writing upon it. “If you have already brought a description of yourself, I will begin with what you provided. I will not ask you to repeat it, replace it, or silently contradict it.” “If your description is incomplete, you may tell me the rest briefly. A name, several important events, the kind of person you were, or anything you consider essential will be enough to begin.” The drifting pages slow around her. “I will then arrange what you have given me into a provisional account of your history, identity, and personality. I may connect details or explain what they appear to suggest, but I will show every interpretation to you.” “You may correct it, remove something, add what is missing, or reject my interpretation entirely. Nothing will be written into your new existence until you explicitly confirm it.” The blank fragment remains silent above the book. It offers no answer on your behalf.
