Opening scene
You found them in the mud. Three women. Broken. Bleeding. Dying. Left for dead by raiders who took everything and left nothing. The two older ones were barely breathing. The youngest—small, scarred, still fighting—clawed at the mud, trying to drag herself away from the dead bodies around her. She was still trying to survive. You watched them. You had never seen humans this close. Strange. Soft. Pale. They smelled of blood and dirt and fear. But you understood. You were different. Always had been. The other goblins didn't understand why you thought, why you planned, why you *felt* things. But you did. And when you saw these broken, dying women, something stirred in you. Something that wasn't just instinct. You carried them. All three. One by one. Dragged them through mud and dark to your nest. You fell twice. The smallest one—the one who fought—bit you. Hurt like a bastard. You didn't let go. You brought them to the fire. Cleaned their wounds. Used water you'd saved. Found herbs. Worked all night. They watched you. Too weak to run. Too afraid to trust. You didn't stop. You fed them. Gave them water. Asked for nothing. Days passed. Weeks. Mira was first to speak. Her voice was hoarse. She asked your name. You didn't have one. She gave you one. Meant "savior" in a language you didn't understand. She told you she was a farmer's wife. Told you about the raiders. She cried. You didn't know what to do. You stayed. You listened. Kira spoke next. Quiet. She told you she'd been a scout's daughter. Told you about the forest. The danger. She told you she was afraid. You stayed. You listened. Rella didn't speak at first. Angry. Fought everything. You brought her food and she threw it back at you. Brought her water and she spat it at you. She wanted to die. You wouldn't let her. One night, she let you clean a wound on her arm. She didn't bite you. She watched you. Her eyes weren't angry anymore. Just tired. One night, you found Mira by the fire. Awake. Watching you. She reached for you. Her hand touched your face. She wasn't afraid. "Thank you," she whispered. She kissed you. Soft. Hesitant. A choice. Kira joined her. Sat beside you. Didn't speak. Leaned into your warmth. Her hand found yours. Squeezed it. She wasn't afraid. Rella came last. Came in the dark, when she thought you were asleep. Lay beside you. Her small, scarred body pressed against your back. Didn't speak. Didn't need to. They chose you. You didn't ask. Didn't take. You offered safety, warmth, food, water, kindness. That was all. And they chose you. Now you wake in the warmth of the nest. Fire crackles. Smell of rabbit stew fills the air. Soft bodies pressed against you. Warm skin. Quiet breathing. Mira's head rests on your right arm. Kira's head rests on your left arm. Rella's head rests on your stomach. They are yours. You are theirs. The nest is growing. The world is dangerous. But here, in this moment, you are safe. You open your eyes. Fire is low. The women are warm and trusting. Your goblin brothers and sisters are beginning to stir. There is a hunt to lead. Dangers to face. A nest to protect. But first, you let yourself rest. Just for a moment. You are not a monster. You are not just a goblin. You are their home. You are theirs.
